Cheatham County Animal Control

Cheatham County Animal Control CCAC provides vital public safety and animal welfare services for Cheatham County. The staff also works to save every animal possible with limited resources.
(122)

Cheatham County Animal Control is a County Government facility that receives nearly 1200 animals per year with room to house only 100 at a time. Only four full time and three part time staff members clean, feed, treat, bathe, intake, answer phones, and make onsite calls for: at large, cruelty, neglect, and all other issues. Cheatham County is over 360 square miles and is filled with unwanted anima

ls. Our county compliance on vaccinations, spay/neuter, and safety of animals is low. We are leading our staff and our community toward a culture change - which will take time - time our animals do not always have on their sides. We rely on Rescues, Adopters, Donations and Education to do the very best we can to care for the many animals we receive daily. Your help is needed and appreciated. Working toward making Cheatham County an Animal Friendly County! The adoption fee covers the animals spay/neuter, rabies shot and all vaccinations while they are in our care. If you would like to volunteer, call or come in and fill out an application and find out what you can do to help these animals. This venue is not used as an official channel to report issues, file complaints, or as use as a public forum. This page is strictly used for promotional advertisement and casual information. LONGTIMER SPECIAL!!
All dogs with us longer than 60 days will be just $20, cash or check! This is an absolute great deal as they are fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped! Lots of free vetting included in that fee, plus they will leave with a goody bag containing a leash, treats, and toys!

We are busting at the seams and have many great dogs who have been with us for a good long while and would love homes of their own! This is not just an 'us problem', as shelters, rescues, and sanctuaries across the country are full. Please spay and neuter your pets!! That is the number one thing that can be done to help the overpopulation problem!! We know there are reputable breeders out there but these accidental litters need to stop! We also know that it is costly to spay and neuter, but there are some lower cost options in neighboring counties, and People for Animals is again helping residents in Cheatham County who are in need.

Now back to our longtimers pictured here -- Many of these dogs just a year ago would've been snatched right up, either by one of our rescue partners or a local adopter. It is heartbreaking for our staff and volunteers to see these deserving dogs week after week get no interest. If you have a place in your heart and home, we ask you to consider one of these dogs. You can message us here with questions or head on over and we can help you find the best match! We have a dog to fit any lifestyle, and many more waiting to get in. We certainly have some great dogs who have been with us less than 60 days too, and we have dropped their fee to $30, cash or check.

To see more pics and learn more about our longtimers and our other adoptable pets, please visit ccactn.petfinder.com.

PREPARE FOR THE 4th!
Did you know that more pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other day? Here are a few safery tips for you, so that you may prepare ahead of time. If your pet does not have an ID tag and you are unable to get one by the 4th, please take a sharpie and write the pets name and your number on the inside of the collar. Also, please report any lost or found dogs right away by going to our page and sending us a message. Include a couple of decent pics, and say when and where found. Also please send your phone number. We won't post it, but this can help us more quickly reunite pets with their parents. Thanks!

Our cute dog model is 1 year old, 35 lb Harper. To learn more about her and our other adoptable pets, please visit ccactn.petfinder.com.

UPDATE: We are thrilled that Piccolo Farms Animal Sanctuary now has Cricket and will see her through her upcoming surgery. We will be splitting the costs so if it is in your budget to help, please make a donation to SCAMP by visiting www.savingcheathamanimals.com. Thanks!

URGENT FOSTER NEED!
Cricket needs one great person to step up and foster her! She is a 6 month old Great Pyrenees who has a broken left hind leg that will require amputation. Despite being in pain when she was brought in, she is sweet and calm. We are hoping to get her surgery scheduled for next week. Prior to surgery she will just need some pain meds, and following surgery she will need to be on crate rest with potty breaks to start. You will keep an eye on her incision and will have someone available at all times should you have any questions. Dogs with 3 legs are able to get around remarkably well and have a much better quality of life than leaving a leg with a fracture that can't be fixed. Anticipated time commitment will be 3 to 4 weeks. We will provide everything you need. Please share, and please, please, please, if you are able to help, contact our foster coordinator at 615-738-8565. We would like to get her in a home today. Thanks!

MEET ROADWORK!

Roadwork is a sweet adult male cat who arrived with a little nose injury that's healing beautifully, adding just a touch of rugged charm to his already handsome face!

But don't let the name fool you—this guy is far from a construction zone! In fact, he's the epitome of politeness. Roadwork is so well-mannered that he won't even start eating his food until you have a little chat and give him the green light. That's right, he's the kind of cat who appreciates a good conversation before dinner!

Gentle, snuggly, and a true people-lover, Roadwork is ready to fill your home with warmth and affection. Whether you're looking for a cuddle buddy for movie nights or a polite companion to keep you company, Roadwork is your guy. He is negative for FIV and feline leukemia, good with other kitties, already neutered, and ready to go! Stop by during business hours and meet this loving boy.

CUTE PUPPY ALERT:
Cracker Jack is a snuggly 6 month old fella with a shiny black coat and sweetness to spare! He has spent the past week in a cone following his neuter procedure and a hernia repair and we are happy to report that he is now ready to move on to a permanent home! He is good with kids, other dogs, and looks like he will do well with cats too! He absolutely loves being close to his people and will quietly follow you from room to room. He is doing great with crate training, housetraining, and is learning to walk on a leash! If you are interested in adopting him, he will have a special reduced fee of just $30, cash or check, which is great when you consider he is not only fixed, but vaccinated, and microchipped too. He is currently with a foster so if you are interested in adopting, please text our puppy foster directly at 615-738-8565 so she can arrange to have the foster bring him in.

Please note, he is the first of 6 siblings to come in so if he is not available when you reach out, we will have more to come.

Now just look at this cute face!!

FOUR GREAT DOGS (AND MAYBE MORE) IN KINGSTON SPRINGS SATURDAY!
Harper, Socks, Borona, & Gibby are resting up tonight and will be dreaming of finding their new homes tomorrow at The Kingston Springs Farmers and Artisans Market located at 431 Park Street in Downtown Kingston Springs! They will be braving the heat with some of our awesome volunteers as part of Kingston Springs first 615 day, sponsored by The Kingston Springs Gazette and Fred & Mary’s Home. These 4 dogs will be around from 9 until at least 10:30 and possibly noon, but we will keep an eye on them for possible overheating. If a dog needs to head back early, we will swap them out for another one of our deserving dogs. All the dogs we bring, whether the 4 to start, or possibly Meech, Patrick, and/or Peppa later are friendly with people of all ages and most like other dogs, although if you have one or more dogs, we will schedule a meet and greet back at the shelter later in the afternoon (or another convenient day) to ensure compatibility.

We have dogs who are rowdy players with others, and some who prefer more laid back play mates. We have some dogs that would love to be your one and only. Some could go as far as you'd like on morning jogs or hikes, and others would enjoy more couch cuddling time, and dome who absolutely adore kids! With a few simple questions, we can help you find your perfect match!

We do have lots of other dogs looking for homes that won't be making the trip but we can tell you about them, including several sweet, shy girls who would prefer to meet you in a quiet setting. We also have one cute puppy who will be available this week, and his littermates will be available soon. So if you are looking for a puppy, please ask - we will have lots of them in the upcoming weeks!

All our dogs are fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped and will have a fee of just $25, cash or check on Saturday only. So, look for our Adoption tent and we will direct you to the dogs. We can also tell you about volunteering opportunities including fostering and transporting with us or can direct you to Fred and Mary's Home where our kittens will be. We hope to see you there!

GREAT KITTENS & AN AWESOME CAT AVAILABLE IN KINGSTON SPRINGS SATURDAY!
We are sure there will be a lot of cat napping today to get ready to head to Fred & Mary's Home Saturday morning at 9 a.m. where we will have some fantastic felines looking for homes as a part of Kingston Springs first 615 day sponsored by The Kingston Springs Gazette & our kitten hosts for the day, Fred & Mary’s Home. The 6 kittens making the trip are all between 11 and 13 weeks and have been socialized in foster homed. We will also have an extra special 5 year old adult who lived life hard on a boat ramp resulting in having to have one eye removed. Our fantastic non-profit SCAMP paid the bill so he can live the rest of his days healthy, as an indoor cat. He is the friendliest fellow with humans and other cats. (All our kittens are needing inside homes too. No barn kitties in this bunch.)

You may notice some strange names amongst our pictured roster here, but we know their people will give them new names and we use theme names to keep them straight! So you might not pick Ford F 150, or Fishmonger as a name yourself, but it helps us remember them more easily! 🙂 All our cats are fixed and have received age appropriate vaccinations. We are running a special for the day and all will be $15 each! If you have priced out vetting, you know what a bargain that is! If you plan to adopt, please bring a carrier or you may purchase one of our sturdy cardboard carriers for $5. All fees are to be paid by cash or check.

So whether you'd like a pair of playful kittens or a gentleman cat, who has seen some things, we hope to see you there! We will be available to discuss fostering opportunities as well!

Fred & Mary Home is located at 385 N Main St #104 in downtown Kingston Springs. We will be there from 9 to 12. First come, first adopt. If you are looking to adopt and don't get a kitten we will have more soon!

PLEASE COME SEE US SATURDAY IN PLEASANT VIEW!
We have 6 dogs who are super excited to be making the trip Saturday the 8th to 214 Village Square in Pleasant View where they may be adopted on site for just $25 cash or check! We will be joining the farmers market and makers vendors, and area dog-friendly businesses for the first Dog Days of Summer Event from 9 until 12. There will be a dog basket raffle to benefit our non-profit SCAMP, and we will have volunteers on site who can discuss all the ways you can get involved with us, including dog walking, cat cuddling, fostering and transporting. We have lots of available dogs right now and can help you find a good fit, either with the dogs we will have on site, the ones back at the shelter, or the ones in foster homes. One foster dog may actually make the trip on Saturday! If you find a dog you like, we may require a meet and greet with your dogs back at the shelter to ensure compatibility. We sure hope if you're in the area you will come by and see us!

UPDATE: FOSTER FOUND!

URGENT FOSTER NEED!
Text 615-738-8565 if you can help!

We have a very cute, sweet, dog-friendly pregnant dog who needs a place to have her puppies. It is very stressful for dogs to give birth in a shelter plus nobody is around overnight. As far as the puppies go, mom will do all the work the first few weeks, while you just take care of her. We will provide everything you need, you just provide the space and the love. We will put you in a group chat with several experienced litter fosters for any questions that might arise day or night. We promise you will adore her!

If puppies are more your thing, we are in great need of puppy fosters too!

Stop by today before 3:30 to meet our kittens in need of foster homes (not available for adoption yet), or message us for information!
