INTELLIGENCE TEST POST!!!
Here are the results!!!
This test is always so much fun and these pups are all super smart and did incredibly well!
So, here's how it works... Each of the 4 test components offers 3 possible points. The highest possible score is 12 and the lowest possible score is 0.
Please keep in mind, these tests are designed for dogs 12 weeks of age and older, but our tiny doodles did great!
Also keep in mind, this is just for fun and often, they score completely differently when the tests are repeated.
None the less, it provides some fun insight into how their little brains work!
10–12 points: Little puppy genius
7-9 points: Way ahead of the curve
4-6 points: Clearly smart, but had better things to do
1–3 points: Just wasn't into it
0 points: Sleeping
Test 1:
A towel is placed over each pup’s head and they are timed to see how long it takes them to get free (tests problem solving).
Test 2:
A treat is placed under a towel with the pup watching and then they are timed to see how long it takes them to get it (tests problem solving).
Test 3:
A treat is placed under one of three cups, the pup is turned around 360 degrees and then points are based on when they get to the right cup (tests memory).
Test 4:
A treat is placed under an elevated board, just out of reach of the snout, but within reach of the paws and the pup is timed to see how long it takes them to retrieve the treat (tests problem solving).
Here are the results!!!
Brewer - 0 - 3 - 3 - 0 = 6 - Brewer is such a smart, funny pup, but he literally sat under the blanket and didn’t move a muscle until the timer ran out lol 🤣 He also looked at me like I was crazy when asked to use his paws to get the treat 😂 He rocked it on the other two tests though and knew where the treat was instantly, but pushed the cup all the way across the room before he finally figured out how to tip it over! So cute and funny!!! 🥰
Finnegan - 3 – 2 – 0 – 2 = 7 - Finnegan is so smart! Not so sure about his memory though lol 🤣 He wrestled out from under the blanket in 2 seconds, got the treat under the blanket pretty quick, and was one of only two pups to use his paws to get the treat under the board right away, but picked the wrong cup every time and gave me a dirty look at the end 😂🤣 Until I gave him the treat anyway lol 🥰
Jameson - 2 – 2 – 3 – 0 = 7 - Another 7! This is one smart litter of pups! Jameson took a second to orient himself under the blanket, but then escaped, no problem. He also sat and thought about it for a second before going after the treat under the blanket, but once he’d formulated his plan, he was on it! He got the right cup immediately, but lost interest in the whole dumb game before we got to the 4th round and walked away to inspect the living room 😂
O’Malley - 1 – 2 – 2 – 0 = 5 - O’Malley is such a funny boy! He sat under the blanket unmoving for a bit, but then an explosion of energy propelled him out at the last second 🤣 He made it through the rest of the testing, taking his time, but ultimately getting the job done. My favorite thing about testing him though was that he kept looking up at me for help as if to say, “You’ve got thumbs, get it for me!”
Kellen - 3 – 2 – 2 – 1 = 8 - Holy smart pup!!! This sweet boy was so focused and engaged and really seemed to enjoy the games and the rewards! He just couldn’t figure out how to use his paws to get that darn treat at the end, but he’s so big and strong he nearly lifted up the board with his big head so I gave him a point! 🥰
Ryker - 3 - 3 – 2 – 0 = 8 - What a smart little stinker Ryker is lol! He did amazing and did some really funny things like climb on top of the board to see things from a different angle and pull the blanket off the treat by grabbing it and running across the room 😂 Such a sweet and entertaining pup 🥰
Rainey - 3 – 0 – 2 – 2 = 7 - Rainey was all about this test! She loves the treats and excelled in all the phases except the treat under the blanket. She just kept pawing and biting at it from the top 😂 She knew it was there and wanted it so bad, but just couldn’t seem to think outside of the box in the moment lol 🤣
Lark - 2 – 0 – 1 – 0 = 3; 3 - 0 - 2 - 0 = 5 - Oh, Lark, you funny girl! This silly pup bombed the first round of testing, but I know she’s a super smart pup, so I gave her another chance. While she did better the second time around, she still thinks intelligence testing is dumb and has better things to do lol 😂🤣 She also doesn’t care about treats when there is exploring to do, so while I think she’s super smart, she cannot be bribed 🥰
Brinley - 1 – 2 – 2 – 0 = 5 - While Brinley is a clearly a smart pup, she’s is super laid back and takes her time. She was really engaged though and certainly enjoyed the treats! However, she made it obvious that she would have rather spent the time lying on her back and getting a belly rub if given the choice! 🥰
Juniper - 2 - 2 - 1 - 0 = 5 - Juniper did great too, but she’s also one that would rather nap and snuggle than engage in intellectual pursuits lol 😂 She made it very clear that if I would just feed her the treats one after another while she laid in my lap, she would have been much happier 🤣
Maisie - 1 - 1 - 0 - 0 = 2; 1 - 0 - 1 - 0 = 2 - Oh Maisie 😂 Maisie thinks intelligence testing is stupid and she’s not gonna do it. She just sat quietly and stared at me pretty much the whole time as if to say, “No. No. Still no.” Gotta love her 🥰 Then, I gave her a second chance and still no. 🤣
