I got my all black Swedish Svart Hona chickens sorted and moved into a new pen. This current flock consists of two very handsome Wooly roosters, three beautiful Wooly hens, two stunning smooth hens that carry the Wooly gene, and two three magnificent smooth hens from a totally different bloodline line.

This flock will produce Wooly Chicks and Smooth Chicks that carry the Wooly gene.

I'll make hatching eggs available next month once the weather starts to cool off

3 cages for sale. The two dome top cages are easily collapsed and folded for travel and storage. $25 each. The larger cage is welded and bolted together. The hole in this mulberry leaf looks like a butterfly from where I'm sitting.

This is another wonderfully useful tree. You probably already know that silkworms are grown on mulberry leaves but did you know the leaves have many health benefits for people. The berries are delicious, both to me and the birds. The branches make excellent perches for our pet birds

Crape Myrtles have exfoliating bark. The outermost layers peel off every summer revealing the bright, shiny new bark underneath. This helps to prevent insects and other parasites from damaging the trees long term.

Not only is the tree beautiful in full bloom but it's even pretty in the winter with the leaves gone.

The entire tree is nontoxic to animals. Unlike azaleas, it's safe for the goats to eat. The branches make great perches for parrots and other pet birds. Because of the smooth bark, the perches are very easy to keep clean.

The flowers and seed pods make great natural enrichment for your pets. Lorikeets, especially, love them.

He's in the shade, as we all should be, so it's hard to see, but Kevin has lost his crest feathers on top of his head. He'll be dropping his train soon.

Did you know that the long, brightly colored feathers that he lifts and fans out are not actually his tail feathers? Those are his train. His tail feathers are short, stiff, brown feathers underneath his train.

This makes me happy. This cool little guy found one of my little ponds. I have a tub underneath one of the window air conditioning units to collect all the condensation. There are some small goldfish and water plants in it and this happy little bug eater has found his way up to it. This makes me happy.

A tomato farmer's nightmare but a reptile's delicacy.

I didn't buy the ones at the pet store but I did find several on my tomato plants.

Tomatoes are from the deadly nightshade family. While the tomato fruit is safe to eat, the leaves are not. Hornworms found on tomato plants will contain a toxic alkaloid compound known as solanine. While the worms suffer no harm from this, reptiles could. However, it seems that birds have no ill effects from eating the worms.

So, while I didn't give these worms to the dragons, I did feed them to the chickens.

Cultured hornworms are grown on a neutral substrate and do not contain any harmful substances. They are nutritious for your reptiles...but cost about $3 each at the petstore but are so much cheaper from Amazon https://amzn.to/4cdSYjh
