This adorable 4yo Morgan mare is here for some fall training owned by Patricia McDevitt Roncone.

Even though she’s already been started, we’re checking her out to make sure she feels solid about the basics. So smart, so willing and easy on the eyes.

Little delayed-

Meet Theo!

Theo is a 10 year old throughbred. He is owned by Mary Baker .

Theo has been working on mounting from a block or the wall. He is learning to accept the bridle with his head low. For us 5 feet folks these tall thoroughbreds can really get there heads up 😂 .

As we wrap up Gelinas Farm’s 25th year of hosting Tom and Trina Curtin, as always I’m left feeling overwhelmed with gratitude and a fire to improve myself for the horse.

What I appreciate most about their mentorship is they help hold me accountable and tell me what I need to hear, not what I want to hear, in a way that doesn’t discourage but encourages me to try and be better than average. They remind me to get out of my head and listen to the horse. The answers to questions are not always black and white…but they have a way of getting you to think not for yourself but for the horse, because that’s where the answers lay. The horse doesn’t lie.

If you ever get the opportunity to ride with the Curtins, don’t miss your chance.

I feel incredibly grateful to have MANY mentors in my life on this horsemanship journey, from the first day I swung a leg over the saddle to now. You know who you are 💗

Cian - Connemara Out shaking it up today. Started with some loping in the outdoor 10 circles each way, to taking a stroll down the road on trash day. Those dumpsters can be strange looking.

Miss Morgan! 🌞 Morgan came to us last fall for a month of ground work, and came back this spring for a couple more months of confidence building. Her owners rescued her and are really taking their time to make sure she gets what she needs. She is a sensitive and skeptical little mare who isn’t quite sure people have a whole lot of offer her. When we first met her she was very concerned on the ground, reactive to saddling, and had a hard time with hoof care and fly spray. I didn’t think I would be getting on her back in the month, nevermind riding her in a clinic! These horses always surprise me, they’re such resilient and forgiving creatures when given the right feel and opportunities. Eager to see where another month takes us… going at her pace. #quality #horsemanship #horsetraining #horsetrainer

As we move into our final week with Salazar his owner came up for some lessons on him! Looking forward to continue working with the duo for the next couple months as she trucks in with us!

Put Jack on the payroll to pony horses out! Jack is a 5 year old thoroughbred who has been in training with us since he was 4. He is a full time GF resident and it’s starting to show. This horse has come a long way, he has a great mind and is slowly becoming a wonderful versatile partner. First ride out! Set up for success as you embark on your first journey out on the trail. Ask one or two trusted riders to go with you to help build confidence in your horse. Having other confident horses nearby will have a positive effect on the less experienced one, as he’ll naturally pick up on their calm emotions. This little guy started to really let loose and didn’t mind taking the lead. Don’t take the curiosity away from him, ride him give him a place to go.
