*Pasture raised meat birds*

We’ve been raising our meat birds in a chicken tractor which we move around the property. While we were able to give them fresh ground often, they weren’t technically pasture raised because they’re still in a small containment.

We’ve got a lot of land under pine trees that’s been wasted space so we’ve fenced part of it in and moved the big birds into it. The space is 2500 sqft which qualifies as pasture raised, depending on the number of birds we have.

The brooder now has a small door on the backside with a tunnel to allow the smaller birds to come and go from the brooder to the big bird area until they’re big enough to live with the general population.

Eventhough I caught a nasty bug for Christmas 🤧, it’s been a nice season for us.

The dude is working on making our old barn better. We knew there were critters living under the flooring but never saw anything. After pulling up the flooring we’re surprised to find a couple huge mummies! 😳 ..maybe fox?

After the barn is done, we’ll create a new pasture/woodsy area for our meat birds. We’re planning on expanding our meat bird operation.

Two of our piglets caught a case of mites… what the heck!?! So, we’re currently battling that mess 🙄🤦‍♀️. We pulled the first affected piggy away from the rest and a week later when we put him back, Doris rejected him. Thankfully we have enough shelters to quickly pivot when needed.

Eventually, we’ll tackle the garden and decide what to plant…. Never a dull moment here.

When I tell y’all farmers can find a use for anything….. this lil table fire pit thingy has been buried in our barn for quite sometime. Today, it’s the perfect hand warmer while processing chickens on this freezing morning!

Oh, and Santa brought me an early Christmas present… a plucker!!! Yay!

After a few very busy weeks, I spent some relaxing time with my daughter this past week. Alas, now it's time to get back at it! This week these birds will be prepared for market. I'm registered with the state to slaughter/process the birds we raise, so these birds are on the farm from start to finish and ready for your table within 24-36 hours of processing (well, unless Christmas happens to fall during the processing week)! These will be ready to go on the 26th.

So, keep an eye out and getcha some local, farm-raised chicken! These birds are destined for PF Meat Co. Butchery & Market in Pendleton.

The worst part of loving doggies is making the difficult decision to let them go. Our senior-most dog, Ralph, has passed on at the golden age of 15!! What a gentleman of a dog he was and we miss him already! ❤️
