8 more dogs will be ripped from this world without our help. Their links dropped this morning, and we do not know how long we have to save them. Please move quickly and please move with integrity.

An animal is not safe just because it is out of the shelter. Please have a complete plan for these dogs. We cannot continue to put out fires created by well-meaning people without plans. We are scraped thin. We know you are too.

Lexus is a young cane corso, who was abandoned and is now scared. She had an adoption appointment, but it fell through.

Kendall is 5 years old and was brought in as a stray.

Acura had been turned in by her finder who said she did well with dogs and cats and also walks on leash.

Dodge was found as a really skinny stray. He's around 3 years old.

Miguel is a really sweet and affectionate and around 1.5 years old.

Kordell was brought in with his sister who was adopted. He's only 8 months old.

Pancake has been kenneled with other puppies and does well. He's the last puppy out of the ones he came in with and is 8 months old.

Paloma is another owner surrender in the field, which meant that the owners couldn't be bothered to bring her in themselves. She's around 4 years old.

Please continue to fight for these dogs and don't give up. Please foster and adopt.

6 dogs euth listed today, and the tracker still shows the other 20 still there and still euth listed!

It can take them sometimes several days to update their system, but by my tracker there are 26 dogs listed to be killed. A local adopter or foster will decide which live and die for every one of these precious souls.

The tracker seems to be working OK but it's only as good as what AVAS puts in their system. These dogs come and go faster than most of us can keep up with, so hopefully the tracker is stable.

What makes me think it's right is because yesterday it was 10 exactly and today it's up to 20, since the list is supposed to be the whole list at any given time.

Please fight for all these precious doggos. All of them need local adopters or fosters to make it out of there alive.

📌 AVAS Tracker reports for 8/21/24. The tracker checks their web site every 10 minutes. It and the reports are still brand new, so please let me know if you see anything wrong.

(There is one bizarre cat kennel card that's a new intake but their internal intake code "alt-id" indicates its been there since March! I can't say the tracker is wrong because I don't know what to make of it looking at it with my eyeballs. None of the dates on that one make sense.)

📌 The posters are my happy place, but as a computer scientist it's been so frustrating hunting down all the info I could find about the dogs for every poster.

So I built a tracker with a hobby computer and a couple thousand lines of Javascript to automate the whole process, and now the data is coming in!

📣🆘 STILL ALIVE AS OF 10:34 ON TUESDAY MORNING!!!! WHO CAN FOSTER OR ADOPT?!?!

📣📣 Well, the facility finally deemed it appropriate to respond to our status requests right before closing, and after they killed a bunch of dogs. This pathetic excuse for a shelter needs to be held accountable for their lackadaisical management and the failures of their so-called “rescue team”. We are so sorry to the babies who had adopters and rescues trying to reach someone to save a life while staff was in the back killing you. We will not forget you, or the disgusting events of today. 📣📣

📣📣 As of Saturday at 1:45 pm, the shelter still has not responded to our email requests for updates. Staff refuse to give status on more than one animal at a time over the phone, and we have recently learned that their phone updates are sometimes incorrect. To keep things as straightforward as possible, we are only updating based on either (a) written status updates from the shelter or (b) freedom pictures and video from rescues or adopters. Thank you for your understanding and hard work for these dogs. Let’s keep fighting. 📣📣

A few things really leap out at me about this.

What I'm calling "project AVAS" is still going well. I miss doing posters but this is going to be time well spent on the Apple Valley Tracker.

I'm still having to occasionally wipe all the data during development, so this is with only 2 days of data. At some point it's going to start amassing truly staggering amounts of data, because their intake is truly staggering.

This is pretty close to how I envisioned a report like this. It's still impressive that the human volunteers are able to do this by hand because this shelter unlists sometimes dozens of animals a day.

Within a week or two I'll be able to give people terminal access, and within a month or two I'll have it available on a web site.

These dogs are still pending euthanasia as of the last status update 8/10 morning! There is no interest for them. 💔

Marisol was killed (they said health), and so was her brother Derek. His link dropped last week, but we didn't get confirmation until now.

8 more secretly sentenced to their ex*****on today!

Poor Marisol was never even relisted after her holding status. 3 other scared little puppies make up the bottom row as well as several big pittie mixes and a shepherd. They've all just become available for euthanasia on 8/6 besides Marisol, who was available for it 8/3 and Jim on 8/7!

That is no time at all!

Please keep working hard. We feel it, too. It's insanity. But these dogs don't know we are bogged down. They only know they are in a scary place and they are all hoping for somewhere that makes them feel safe and loved.

Please foster if you are able. Please adopt if you can. If you can't foster or adopt, do everything in your power to fight however you can.

8/8 update: Marina and Dave have rescue interest from yesterday. Petunia has nothing. Pete had some interest but needs a plan.

📢📢 SATURDAY MORNING UPDATE: Dave, Marina, Luna, and Paxton are all out of the building and safe. Petunia and Pete have adoption meet and greet this morning and we are anxiously awaiting to see if they go well and go home with their potential adopters. If not, they will need a plan immediately so they are not euthanized!!!

6 beautiful dogs again today!

Our hearts are broken. So many lovely, little lives and personalities ripped from us. We almost lost others, but sometimes, magic happens when you open your hearts and doors to foster so that rescues can swoop in and save these precious pups!

The community, us working together, us supporting the rescues, that's how dogs get their miracles. Hard work and passion and grit to keep standing against this place. Keep going for these dogs. Each one deserves us to fight tooth and nail until we can't anymore.

Thank you to the fosters and rescues and pledgers and people who shared and transporters and all others who got many babies safe lately, despite the heavy loss we all feel. Thank you for always showing up.

📌 Brand new report from the brand new AVAS tracker! With the usual disclaimer that this stuff is brand new and could be completely wrong.

*The (?) values are where the shelter doesn't provide information and probably doesn't even have it on their internal system. Seems obvious they give more attention to the dogs.

These are just stats I could think of that I knew I wanted and all this stuff is a work in progress.
