Here's another Hank update! He came up negative for heartworm and Lyme disease and that's great! His blood work was all within normal range too!

Hank had an awful ear infection, a bladder infection, and was full of roundworms and whipworms. He's currently on antibiotics for both infections, and he's been treated for his worms. He's not completely out of the woods yet, as he still is battling diarrhea on and off, is extremely skinny, and hasn't got enough muscle mass to carry himself around well yet which makes it harder on his arthritis.

You wouldn't know this dog wasn't loved before he got here if he didn't show it physically. He's so tolerant, laid back, and gentle (except when treats are involved! 😁) he loves his beds, food, pets, and his new toy with a heartbeat in it. ❤️

Here's the best part: he's been transferred officially to his very last home! ❤️ We couldn't be happier for him, and we are all the more happy to be able to visit and give him the extra care he needs! Hooray for Hank! We aren't sure how he got where he did, how old he is, or how much time we have with him, but we know his last chapter will be full of love. Thanks to all who donated, and continue to donate. I couldn't do this by myself, but together we are making a difference.

This was one of my favorite fundraisers to date! Every single dog that came through was so fun to watch get their photos taken. We raised a total of $375! I seriously can't wait to work with Redbow Photography again! The Grinch's heart MUST have grown that day for sure because he helped give Christmas to all of our rescues here at Rocky Start!

Hey friends! As a rescue owner, it's heartbreaking when any animal is surrendered, but when the owner loves their pet, and has done everything they can to keep them healthy, and still are faced with the hard decision to surrender to save their loved one, it doesn't sit right. Cajun's owner reached out for help for Cajun as he had pr*****ed once and underwent surgery to repair it. The first surgery cost $500 and they were able to pay it to save their pet. Cajun has unfortunately pr*****ed again and they haven't got the money to pay for another surgery. I want to help them be able to keep Cajun in his loving home by helping them pay this surgery bill. If you can donate towards his life saving surgery, I know how much it means to cajun's family. Let's spread some Christmas cheer ❤️

Happy Saturday, friends! This week's fundraising post looks a little different. While Rocky start typically does not rescue dogs because of lack of space, a good friend to the rescue reached out a few nights ago and told me she had seen a post about a dumped dog who had been picked up by someone else who was unable to keep him long-term. She offered to Foster him and I was happy to help.
He arrived on Thursday to Foster and his kind finder had already taken him to the vet where they tested him for parvo and treated his diarrhea and his pain. This dog smelled SO BAD! He could barely get around as he was in such bad pain from arthritis. I carried him to the tub where he had his first bath in who knows how long. When we removed his collar it was rotted to him! He was riddled with fleas so we got that treated. That night he ate a small bland meal and drank his water and rested.

The next morning, he was unable to get up. We were able to get him back into my vet as we knew he needed diagnostics. While he was at the vet yesterday morning, we ran his blood work, took his temperature, my vet examined him, and we sent samples off to be tested for heartworm and Lyme disease. We were mostly worried about the level of pain he was in so he received an arthritis injection and we sent him back to foster home with fluids, probiotics, some prescription food, and some antibiotics for a really nasty ear infection.

Last night I received an update from his foster mom that the arthritis injection did wonders for him and he was up and moving around much more comfortably and was able to go outside on his own. She has started calling him Hank and I think he is absolutely a Hank! He was of course checked for a chip and I checked around to a few of my friends in rescue to see if they perhaps recognized him or saw anyone looking for him. We have come up with nothing. While we don't know how long he was outside, we know that he has not been shown the love he deserves in quite some time. He is extremely skinny, he is dehydrated, he is anemic from his fleas, and he has arthritis that has been unmanaged for so long his joints are too swollen to walk comfortably. And to top it all off he is unaltered at ten years old. He is absolutely the sweetest boy in the world. I'm so happy that we got him and he's in such a wonderful foster home now. And I'm happy we were able to help. But now we need YOUR help! We are asking for donations for this sweet boys vet bill that totaled just about $550. Any amount helps! And how can you say no to this sweet face?

Follow along for his updates and send good vibes that he gets a new lease on life! Old dogs are often forgotten and overlooked but we know one thing for certain, he will never be left alone again!

Happy Tuesday! Rocky start is in need of donations! This time of year, donations slow for rescues but the job never stops. We are flying through kitten food, we have a few vet appointments coming up, and we need to re up our flea meds stash for everyone here! We keep every mammal on topical flea medication to keep them protected year round! If you can donate towards the animals in our care, it means a lot and goes a long way! Happy wishlist Wednesday! This may be the "slow season" but I'm still single handedly caring for over 40 animals! We are still in big need of kitten chow, and it's time to deep clean reptile enclosures so we need the repti bark and always need more heat bulbs as well! If you can help us out with something from our list, it helps more than just one animal, and it keeps me doing what I'm doing! Here's one of our latest tiktoks which really captures me as a director of a rescue. Rocky start is something that I've built from the ground up with the handy skills and enormous tolerance of my husband and the loving support of family and friends. We had a tough year, as did all rescues, but I'm not giving up and we are shooting for the stars. Thanks for all you guys do to help!
