German Shepherd Rescue of New Jersey (GSRNJ) is a 501c non-profit, breed specific dog rescue dedicated to saving and re-homing German Shepherds as well as educating the public about the breed

The group’s founders and members have an in-depth understanding of German Shepherds, bringing decades of experience caring for, evaluating and re-homing this highly intelligent breed. Our membership is compl

etely manned by volunteers and is virtual. We do not have offices or a kennel facility, but work entirely out of our homes. We use foster homes to care for and house dogs in our program while they await their new pack leaders.

We are pleased to introduce our newest member of the gsrnj family: Rex!

Rex will be turning 3 in March and we would love for him to be settled in with his new family by then! He is incredibly sweet but strong and will need an experienced handler. Rex would be a great adventure buddy! He enjoys being outside, playing with balls or chew toys. Rex can possibly live with another dog, meet and greet required and in a home with kids 7 and up.

We would like to wish a big thank you to everyone at Clover Hill Animal Hospital and Hill's Science Diet!

They surpassed their food donations from last year and will be donating over 1,000 pounds of food for our rescue!

Thank you for all that you do! All the volunteers and dogs at GSRNJ are extremely grateful :)

‼️ Buddy update ‼️

Buddy is doing well in foster care. He is finishing up the last phase of his heart worm treatment. He continues to receive his home meds and is trying to stay as calm as possible. In a few weeks he will go for his re-test to make sure the heart worms are all gone. He will then be neutered and will be ready for adoption!!

Their owner passed away and they ended up in the shelter. Schwarz is an 8 year old male, he much larger than his sister and he is pretty active. Teufel is a 9 year old female, she could lose a few pounds but all she wants is love and pets. They are both super sweet and they must be adopted together. They have tested well with other calm dogs, a meet and greet would be required.

We wish everyone a happy and safe New Year’s Eve! Please drink responsibly 🥂

Friendly reminder when celebrating, a lot of dogs do not appreciate fireworks and loud celebrations. A few suggestions would be to get lots of exercise during the day, give them a safe a comfortable space at night, make sure their collars are on and their microchip information is current!

Here is to saving more dogs in 2025!!

This past year has been especially difficult for the rescue community. Pleas for help from shelters and owner surrenders reached an all-time high. As an organization run entirely by volunteers, we gave everything we could—dedicating our time and energy to assessing more dogs, fundraising, and providing care and assistance where it was needed most. While the work has been exhausting, the reward of saving a life from an overpopulated shelter makes it all worthwhile.

To all of our supporters, donors, rescue partners, volunteers, and adopters, THANK YOU! Thank you for standing beside us in this fight. Your generosity, dedication, and moral support have made a profound difference.

Hi Santa,

It’s me Toons! I wanted to let you know my address changed and I no longer live at the shelter! I was adopted by a really nice family and I even have some really awesome fur siblings that I love so much. I’m so happy in my new home and I’ve been such a good boy! I can’t wait for my first Christmas with my forever family. I’ll leave out some milk and cookies because that’s what I know you like! BTW, I really like balls and treats too!

Your Buddy,
Toons

Congratulations Toons on your adoption, we are so happy for you 🎉🎉

All we want for the holidays is our two senior dogs to go to a loving, cozy home to live out the rest of their years comfortably. Schwarz and Teufel are a bonded pair- 8 and 9 years old. Schwarz is still very much active and loves to run around and play, while Teufel loves to chill out and get lots of belly rubs and pets, and occasionally chase the ball! The kennel is no place for seniors. Can someone please take this lovely bonded pair? They’ll make adopting them SO worth it 🤍

After being in the kennel for 6+ months, Zia still manages to show up with a smile on her face!! Zia is about 3 1/2 years old, long haired GSD. She’s up to date on vaccines and spayed! She loves to play with balls and loves the water. Zia is super affectionate and would love to follow you around! She’s very loyal, playful, and bright spirited. Zia needs to be an only pet and has not been around young children.
