The group’s founders and members have an in-depth understanding of German Shepherds, bringing decades of experience caring for, evaluating and re-homing this highly intelligent breed. Our membership is compl

etely manned by volunteers and is virtual. We do not have offices or a kennel facility, but work entirely out of our homes. We use foster homes to care for and house dogs in our program while they await their new pack leaders.

🚨 PUPPY ALERT!! 🚨

Meet Princess, Peyton & Pia — three stunning approx. 6-month-old Shepherd-mix sisters who are ready for their fresh start!

These girls were found in a backyard where they received almost no human interaction. Despite their rough beginning, they are incredibly sweet and gentle souls.

Princess is the most outgoing and confident of the trio. She will happily approach new people for pets and affection. She loves praise and warms up quickly — she’ll likely be ready for adoption sooner than her sisters.

Peyton looks the most shepherd-y of the group. She watches Princess first, then slowly follows and checks you out. She is dog-friendly and will need to be adopted into a home with another confident dog to help continue her socialization.

Pia is the most hand-shy and cautious. She will seek affection when Princess gives her the green light. Pia also needs to go to a home with another dog who can show her the ropes and help her feel safe.

🐾 Important Placement Info:
- We are currently LOOKING FOR FOSTERS for these puppies, until they can be spayed
- All three are dog-friendly
- Princess can be adopted independently
- Peyton & Pia must go to homes with another dog
- Peyton and Pia cannot be adopted together — to avoid littermate syndrome and to help them grow independently

These girls have shown enormous resilience. With patience, structure, and love, they will absolutely blossom.

Flugel is a professional nose booper, part-time tail wiggler, and full-time lover of snacks and snuggles. She’s mastered the art of sitting politely (especially when treats are involved), enjoys gentle strolls, and would like to respectfully request a spot on your couch… or your lap. She’s not picky. 😇

October is National Adopt a Dog Month, and there is no better time to open your heart to a dog who has been overlooked for far too long.

Meet Rex. This sweet, resilient boy has spent far too many days watching families come and go from behind kennel doors. His joy is still there, his tail still wags, and he still believes his forever person is out there. He just needs someone willing to give him the chance he deserves.

Rex is healthy, loyal, and more than ready to leave the shelter life behind. While he has some front-door reactivity that will benefit from continued training, he has shown incredible progress with volunteers and strangers who take a moment to earn his trust.

Roo is a 57-pound German Shepherd mix with the gentlest heart and the most soulful, expressive eyes you’ve ever seen. With beautiful black markings across her back and snout and light brown legs, she turns heads everywhere she goes — but it’s her personality that wins people over instantly. Roo is fantastic with kids and absolutely loves the company of other dogs, including her 25-lb labradoodle sister, Rosie. She’s patient, social, and has an easygoing sweetness that makes her feel right at home in a family. Her name tells her story: after losing one of her front legs in an accident, she learned to hop her way through life with joy and determination — just like a kangaroo. And she does it with a smile. Whether she’s lounging, playing, or exploring, Roo moves with confidence and heart. She’s living proof that resilience can be adorable — and that three legs are more than enough when you're full of love.

Personality & Characteristics:
My foster dog is good with: (Dogs, Kids, Cats) Dogs and kids for sure. She hasn't yet met a cat, but she loves all creatures so far.

My foster dog is: (Crate trained, House trained, Low shed): Crate trained & house trained.

Energy Level (1= calm, 10= high energy): 5 - she likes to play with our pup, but also loves to chill in her crate and snuggle.

Barker? Or Quiet Pup?: Pretty quiet. She "talks" when playing with our dog, but doesn't bark at anything else.

Walking Manners: At the moment she prefers to be indoors and is a little afraid of city noise. She doesn't pull on the leash.

Appetite: Gobbles up her food as soon as we put it down. She's tall enough to take food right off the table, but would never do that!

🚨 FOSTERS NEEDED — NO OTHER PETS 🚨

GSRNJ is urgently looking for foster homes with NO other pets. Right now, shelters and rescues are at capacity with animals looking for homes. We are a foster-based rescue and we do not have a shelter for the animals to go. We cannot save more dogs without you!

If you have a pet-free home and a little extra love to give, please consider fostering! We provide everything you need and will be with you every step of the way. Fosters are given the option to adopt if they fall in love with their foster dog. We will make sure the foster and dog are good fit—you just provide the safe space. 💛

Even short-term fosters make a huge difference.
