I was JUST talking about this with a client. When we operate from a place of mindfulness, we can recognize that frustration as an invitation to learn the skill and find out how to do what it is that bridges the gap between where we are and where we want to be.

What if we stopped thinking of what we could be, or should be? What if we let go of expectations, anticipations, and what has yet to happen or may never happen?

What if we came fully into this moment with our horses, with ourselves, and with this partnership and allowed what came up to just be?

Imagine what we could see, what we could feel, and how we could SHINE from what IS! Because I know that at the same moment we may face new challenges as we open ourselves to the present moment, we will see the beauty, success, harmony, connection and magic of this moment. So much of what glows bright under our recognition is dimmed by our constant looking past towards something else that isn't right in front of us.

If you could sit in this space with your horse as you are right now, what shines? Where is the light and magic?

Look to that and honor it.

Not everyone likes to hear it, but the reality is you can't expect a horse to perform better than you ride it.

The performance outcomes of the ridden horse are inseperable from the influence of the rider.

Want your horse to engage more? Does your horse need to take better contact, use its back, become supple or straight?

None of those things can be improved upon without looking at the way the rider is addressing the horse through their seat, position, and the aids produced by it. In fact, any attempt at ethical riding is rooted in the rider taking responsibility for their effect on the horse and diligently pursuing better riding.

I've been using some inexpensive stability pads for a couple of years now. But, Im so excited to have these specifically designed for use in horses.

From helping horses stand calmly to addressing high/low imbalances, thoracic sling engagement, and body suppleness the list of benefits seems almost endless!

Another fabulous tool in my training and teaching toolbox!

This winter is definitely taking its toll on riding time for many of us, from the bitter cold in the east a few weeks ago to these atmospheric rivers of rain here in California that have no end in sight!

But, it's a great time to play with different body movements and explorations at home. Even without riding, there are ways to keep working on the skills we need -- like keeping those seat bones level in the saddle, and not shifting to one side.

Do you struggle with this? Maybe you lose one stirrup often or find it difficult to get a particular lead on your horse. If your pelvis is not placed properly in the saddle it can cause rubs on one leg but not the other over miles of riding, soreness elsewhere in your body after riding, or uneven muscling in your horse!

I created an online course called Focus On Feel that helps riders discover their own pelvic alignment and can be practiced even when the weather limits your saddle time.

Because it's a soggy mess outside and like you I want to feel like I'm still making progress, from today through Sunday I'm offering the Focus On Feel online course at $27 instead of the usual $47.

Practice the sessions and activities in the course while it's stormy out and you'll be ready for the final mounted lesson once the sun is shining. I know it will help you.

Hear what this student said after taking the course.

"I have scoliosis and constantly lean to the left in and out of the saddle. This issue has always felt insurmountable and led to tons of worry about my horse developing uneven muscles from my unbalanced riding. Focus on Feel has given me a solution that feels easily within reach. My horse and I are already feeling better, and I can't wait to see how it translates to more centered riding out on the trail! No insane workouts or medical intervention needed, just mindfulness and fine-tuned movements." - Laura, Aspiring Endurance Rider

I had such a great week helping riders through amazing lessons, growth, and beautiful harmony with their horses. The rainy start, cooler weather, and transition to autumn meant energetic horses, beautiful colors, and awareness that we're always moving into new phases in our riding.

As we move into the last quarter of the year, its a good time to look back at your year.
🍂 What has served you well that you're grateful for?
🍂 What can you let go of that you no longer need or hasn't served you?
🍂 And what do you want to focus on to cap off your year?

It's the season of gratitude, of reaping what we sow, with plenty of time to grow something new. There's magic in the air. Are you up for making some new magic with your horse?

Be sure to message me. 🙂

We hope that all of you have a great Labor Day! With this heat wave please be extra watchful of your horses and how they’re handling the heat…
A few things you can do to help your horse cool down are:
• Hose them down with cool water and scrape excess water off of them. (Repeat this a couple times!)
- If they’re getting overheated you can add alcohol (isopropyl not your beer!) to a bucket of water and sponge them down.
• Provide a fan to help circulate the air
• Provide lots of fresh cool water
• Provide areas of shade so they can escape the direct sunlight
As always, we are here for you and your beloved horses (and donkeys, mules, goats, sheep, llamas etc) day and night so don’t hesitate to call! 916-652-7645

Still true! And our first goals with the gaits are balance and fluidity. It makes a useful all around sporthorse. This is how I help endurance riders and horses reach their potential. Then we can develop a dancer if the goal is dressage.

“Dressage consists of bringing out the natural gaits of the horse. There are two ways to do exercises:
1) The one that consists of forcing the horse to do them.
2) The one that consists of putting the horse first in the correct position and then giving him the maximum freedom to perform.”

Good luck to all those riding 20 Mule Team in Ridgecrest this weekend!

I help lots of endurance riders. I admire the partnership they have with their horses to cover those long miles but also find it rewarding to help them enhance their performance by improving their riding skills and the horse's athleticism.

What do my dressage lessons for endurance riders look like?

• Balanced riding that creates fluid efficient movement in the horse
• Clear aids for effective and light communication
• Teaching the horse to move with balance and alignment
• Teaching the horse to use its ring of muscles to support the back
• Suppling exercises to improve scope and range of motion in the horse
• Targeted gymnastics to develop the thrust and carriage for total athletic performance
I always say our lessons are like yoga or Pilates for the horses using FUNctional dressage principles that will enhance their way of going and the partnership the rider.

Our team of riders had another great outing at Dressage in the Almonds today. First show for pony BDR Perfect Storm, and mustang MM Will Ferrell. The riders put their lesson learning into practice, overcame some struggles and rode through. Everyone took home smiles, good experience, and some nice ribbons including blues. I love how our riders help each other out and cheer each other on. It makes the day lots of fun. Can't wait to get out there again. 🙂

We had a great morning at the Dressage in the Almonds schooling show. Abby rode in her first dressage show on Philipe with a 71 and a 69, taking home 1st and 2nd. Tracey took home a first place and hovered just shy of 70% on MP Samba. Sharon moved up to Training Level putting in a solid test. It was a fun morning with lots of laughs and good rides.

Are you ready for a breakthrough?

It's raining here today, but I'm working on new ideas, new ways of teaching and explaining things to help students.

Last week, I had a rider dismount and do a quick exercise off her horse. She's been struggling with symmetry for a while and unable to feel herself getting crooked. Within a few strides of getting back on, she was stunned to feel with profound clarity what she'd been unable to feel before. It completely changed the influence she had on her horse.

The lesson program at Campuzano Equestrian is for horse owners that –
* Want a deeper understanding of the principles of dressage to create a magical experience with their horse.
* Are committed to the well-being of their horse physically, mentally, and emotionally.
* Are willing to go back to basics if needed.
* Understand results in ridden training rely on the management and care of the whole horse from correct saddle fit, turnout, proper hoof care, and supportive bodywork.
* Seek to train with communication and heart rather than force and fear.

Do you need a fancy horse? Nope. Just the one you have is fine. Every horse can become a lighter fluid, happy athlete and partner. And, every rider can learn to ride well.

If you are interested in how my program can help you, send me a message. I'm happy to chat with you about your goals and the ways I can help you reach them.

Our Story

Stacie Campuzano offers advanced dressage instruction to riders dedicated to the advancement of their skills. In 2001, Stacie helped to establish Freestyle Farm, LLC., to offer instruction and training in her unique approach to partnership focused classical dressage. Horses and riders thrive in an environment where they are given clear guidance to achieving measured goals. By respecting the biomechanics of the horse and its nature as a prey animal, the training emphasizes partnership and harmony. Stacie also holds a teaching credential with the State of California and that training comes through in her ability to break down difficult concepts and clearly articulate them to her students using a variety of teaching strategies. “I try to figure out how each student best receives information and tailor my instruction to them. For instance, some riders are very visual in their learning and others have to feel it. Still other people prefer to talk through it. I use a range of approaches to maximize the skill sets of the rider.”

Every horse and rider are welcome. Stacie is very well known for her ability to develop the gaits of horses and improve their way of moving. “I’ve helped top FEI riders fix very problematic walks and also assisted world class endurance riders in getting a horse to use its ring of muscles more efficiently. But, I’m equally excited about helping a novice rider get a good feeling for balance and connection in the canter.” Her students include three-day eventers, endurance and Tevis Cup champions, pleasure riders, and of course competitive dressage riders.

New students are always welcome. Call, message, or text to set up your next lesson. “I love horses and I love teaching. So, I feel very blessed to be able to combine those daily to help other people reach their goals.”
