“Why should I tip my groomer?”

Your groomer most likely makes 40 to 50 percent commission, not the full price you pay. Tipping your dog groomer shows that you value the work they do. After all, dog grooming is skilled work that most pet owners won’t or can’t do themselves.

Dog Grooming is not easy
Pet grooming is a physically demanding job, and it is usually done out of love for pets. Not to mention the patience needed on a daily basis because animals are unpredictable and do not always cooperate in the way we’d like.

A few may argue that since they don’t tip their hairstylist, they don’t have to tip their groomer. To that, I would point out that the chances of you releasing your bladder on your hairdresser if you get nervous are slim to none.😂🤣 Most of you will probably not bite your hairdresser either. In addition, when your hairstylist tells you to stop moving, you stop moving. Groomers, however, typically work on moving targets, so to speak.

With all of that being said, what is the appropriate amount to tip your groomer? It depends on the services rendered and the quality of the work.

In general, you should tip your groomer 15 to 20 percent of the service total. Appreciation tips are a token of gratitude and are whatever you can afford. Your groomer will sometimes go above and beyond. Perhaps your groomer does consistently fantastic grooms and always squeezes your pet in for an appointment. Take all of this into consideration, as well as special circumstances, when considering how much to tip.

Here are instances in which you should consider adding an extra tip.

When your dog bites your groomer—especially if she doesn’t charge extra for being bitten.
When your dog ends up only half groomed because the groomer had to stop when your dog drew blood or caused serious injury. Chances are you won’t be charged for an incomplete groom.
Pets with f***l matter stuck to their hinds (or elsewhere).
Extreme cases of shedding: Your dog resembles a walking fur storm.
Extreme cases of matting: If your dog is so badly matted that your groomer saves the sheet of fur and shows you a matted fur sweater when you pick up.
Elderly or overweight dogs who will not stand for grooming: especially the larger breeds. This can be the most difficult task of all for groomers and requires skill and patience. This not only takes more time than most grooms, but also requires the help of another groomer. You should tip your groomer and their assistant for this.
You should tip your groomer. If not every time, then occasionally or when you can afford it. At the very least, you should tip your groomer once a year during the holidays.
The service and hard work your groomer gives and puts into grooming your fur babies deserves to be recognized and acknowledged. 💙

Triming your dog's nails: How and how often.

Most dogs need a monthly trim. However, some dogs do not need it as often. This is because their nails get trimmed naturally when walking on rough surfaces, etc.
If you dog has overgrown nails, most likely the quick will be too.
You must not clip your dog’s nails till the very end as they have a quick right wherein lies the nerve ending. Dog nails need to be trimmed only till that line. If you cut beyond that line, it can cause pain to your pup and bleeding.
In order to get those quicks to recede back, so you can get the nails shorter, I recommend that you come in every one to two weeks to get them Dremeled. (Filed) This will help the quick to recede and we will be able to get the nails down to a comfortable length.

It is always best to have a professional groomer cut your dog's nails vs trying to cut them at home. We have a better understanding of where the quicks are, especially in black nails. Even an accidental cut into just one quick can cause your fur baby to associate the whole ordeal negatively from then on out.

Owner responsibility and home upkeep is a MUST in-between professional grooming appointments, to ensure the well being of your pet.
ideally, your dog needs to be groomed every day. You must include basic cleaning habits in your dog’s daily routine AT HOME.

Every morning, especially for furry dogs, check for any boogers that may get collected around the eyelids or in corners of eyes. Clean it up with a soft cloth dipped in saline. Do not use cotton or tissue for wiping purposes as they tend to get disintegrated when in contact with a moist surface. This can be harmful if entered into the eye. You can use special cotton pads or facial tissues that do fall apart.

You must check his coat and paws for any debris every time you return from a walk. Clipping the nails from time to time, brushing the coat, bathing every 7-10 days, etc. are healthy sanitation practices.

As for professional grooming, we recommend a 4-6 week schedule.

Commonly asked grooming question answered.

"Can you just leave the mats in my dog’s fur? I like the fur longer!"

Mats are a big problem for many dogs. They are both uncomfortable when they’re present and also uncomfortable to shave out. Oddly enough, some clients have asked me to shave out the mats and keep the rest of the hair long. Well, it doesn’t really work like that.

If the dog has a coat that easily gets knotted, trust me, there will be knots hiding everywhere. You can’t really just shave those out! Sometimes, your dog may not want to be brushed out. So your only option is to start fresh.

The best solution to keep the dog comfortable and have a longer coat is to prevent mats from occurring. Come in on a regular grooming schedule...every 4 to 6 weeks. And brush and comb at home in-between grooming appointments. It’s a lot of work, but if you really desire a longer coat, that’s what has to happen.

Why you SHOULD NOT shave your double coated dog, and why I advise against it.

Double-coated dogs need their undercoat to protect them from the elements—both hot and cold weather. Once you take that protection away from them, they will be exposed to all the elements. Also, if you shave the undercoat, it might not grow back normally. It might grow in patches, be a different color, or won’t even grow back at all. I don’t think owners realize that.

Many dog owners believe their dogs are hot with all that fur when they actually need it to maintain a cool body temperature in the summer.

Instead of shaving, I suggest We do a deshed spa treatment and trim up the rear, legs, belly, etc.,

Answering one of the top common questions asked...🤍

"Do you sedate dogs for grooming?"

Never. We do not do sedation. If your dog requires sedation to be groomed, please consult a/your vet. If your vet prescribes your pet meds to get groomed, we ask that you please administer this medication to your pet before their groom service appointment. We will be happy to groom them, however we will not administer the medication to them. Also remember that sedated dogs are a little more complicated to groom, so please understand that the time it takes to complete your pets groom session may take longer. 🤍

This is one of the top questions I get asked...

My dog is matted but don't want him shaved-- can you just brush him out?

Truth??
It depends how bad the matting is. De-matting is essentially ripping through knots in the coat - and it hurts! If there is a small section of mats, we may be able to work through it. Widespread matting means your dog will need to be cut short for his comfort.

Generally I ask that your pet be picked up within 1 hour of being called to let you know your fur baby is ready, however I understand that some situations such as not getting off work until a later time may arise, so with prior notice, I will be more than happy to schedule your dog as a "groom and day care" for an additional fee of $10 (per dog) where they can receive grooming services and stay the day. (But must be picked up 15 prior to closing time) Pick ups made after closing may result additional fees. 🤍

Frequently asked questions....answered. 🖤🖤
"Do I need an appointment to have my dog's nails trimmed?
Generally we can accept walk-ins for nail trims between the hours of 1130 am and 2 p.m., but we'd appreciate a heads up phone call if you have larger dogs or multiple dogs . However, if you need to come in earlier than 1130 or later than 2, we do offer these times by appointment. 🤗

One of the top asked questions I get as a professional dog groomer.
"Can I stay with my pet while you groom him? "

No. Your presence makes it much harder for us to get the animal to cooperate with the groom, as they will want to get to you. We ask that you drop off your pet and return when we are done to pick up. We will call you within 20 minutes of completion.

We pride ourselves on a clean, calm, and low stress environment In order to achieve this and remain a safe and sanitary salon, we do enforce a few guidelines. 💙

All cilents are asked to follow these rules: Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

1) Please walk your dog before entering the salon. 🦮🐕‍🦺

2) You must leave a valid contact number & PLEASE WAIT TO BE CALLED. (pets do not sit still once their owner arrives. (A wiggly and excited dog, is an extremely difficult dog to groom).

3) Our safety gate is not to be opened at any time, except by staff.

4) If you cannot make your appointment please call to cancel or reschedule, at least 24 hrs. in advance (we understand that emergencies do happen). We work on daily appointments. If you miss your appointment we have lost business for the day and a spot for someone else. First no show/late for appointment is on us! 2nd no show/ late show will result in additional fees... After 3 no shows you will be required to prepay for your next appointment

We accept cash and checks only. Any returned checks may result in additional fees.

We will only demat your pet if the matting is minor We do charge extra for de-rnatting. We will not demat an extremely matted pet. It can be very painful and cause a lot of skin irritation.

5) We ask that you please pick up your pet no later than 1 hour of being called. We do not let our furry friends run free through the salon due to sanitary and saftey issues. If you need to leave your pet for the day, daycare services and charges will apply.

6) Please let us know when making your appointment if your pet is matted or extremely anxious so we can allow more time for your pet. Our goal is to make your pet feel as stress free as possible.

Any dog entering the salon with fleas or ticks will be treated and owner will be charged for treatment.

We do reserve the right to refuse service to reactive, aggressive, or extremely unruly, pets.

Again, Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Understanding Cost factors that can affect/increase your grooming costs... 🐕
Grooming prices depend on size, age, comfort, coat condition, and the type of service being done for each dog. We can give an estimated cost over the phone, but this is not a guaranteed price. A more accurate quote can be given upon meeting the dog.

🦮Autumn Grooming🍂🍂🍂
As the days get colder and we start wearing more layers it is important to remind your customers that you should continue with regular grooming appointments over the colder month and not leave your dog’s coats to get too long.
🍁🍁🍁 Longer coats will not keep them warmer but will take longer to dry after getting wet outside and coats that are constantly dirty and wet will bunch and matt and this can leave your groomer with no option but to clip the dog shorter than you would like for winter. 🐕‍🦺
