Pet Diabetes Awareness!

Did you know that our pets can get diabetes? Here are some important facts to keep your furry friends healthy:

- Diabetes in pets is more common than you think, affecting 1 in 300 dogs and 1 in 230 cats.
- Symptoms to watch for: increased thirst, frequent urination, weight loss (despite eating well), and lethargy.
- Early detection is key! With proper management, including insulin therapy, a healthy diet, and regular vet visits, diabetic pets can lead very happy lives!
- Pets are more likely to develop diabetes if they're overweight, older, or have a genetic predisposition.

If you notice any of these signs, schedule a check-up with your veterinarian right away!

November is also National Senior Pet Month. This is a time to celebrate the loyal, loving companions who've been by your side for years (or even recently adopted!).

As our pets age, they need a little extra care and attention to stay healthy and happy.

- Schedule regular wellness check-ups that include blood work (many things can be caught early with annual blood work!)
- Monitor for changes in behavior or mobility (we have something for that!)
- Keep them active with gentle exercise (better for their joints and their waistline, too!)
- Provide a comfortable, quiet place to rest.

Your senior pet has given you a all of their love, let's return the favor by ensuring their golden years are their best years! Post a photo of your senior pet below:

This month marks the Pet Cancer Awareness Month.

Keep an eye out for signs like unusual lumps and bumps, weight loss, or changes in appetite or personality. Early detection is key in most cases! If caught early enough, some cancers can be resolved fairly quickly.

Time for another Employee Spotlight!!

Meet Cat, she has been with us for over seven months now and we are so grateful she chose to join our team!! She moved to Pensacola in February of this year, but she was born and raised in Chouteau, Oklahoma. She has been a CVT for 5 years and has worked in the vet field for over 13 years now.

Her family includes her husband, Wes, 8 year old Cyprus (mini Aussie/Border Collie), 10 year old Katie (tabby cat), 4 year old Kilo (Crested Gecko), and 3 year old Slim Shady (Leopard Gecko). Cat and Wes were High School sweethearts and have been together for over 18 years!

Cat loves the outdoors, camping, hiking, boating, and going to the beach; her favorite vacation was to Utah. She loves her Jeep, spending time with her family, and going on cruises! Her favorite quote is "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present." - Grand Master Oogway

When asked what her favorite thing about working here is, she replied "being able to work with people who make me smile, laugh, and share the same passion of caring for pets."

With Halloween coming up, let's practice safe candy eating techniques by following the tips below!

- Keep candy locked up, even if you don't think your pet can reach it on the counter.

- Throw away wrappers, consider putting them in the trash outside where your pet can't get into it. These can cause problems, too!

- Keep them secure when answering the door for trick-or-treaters.

- Don't force them into costumes that will cause unnecessary stress!
