Chemstrand Oaks Veterinary Hospital

Chemstrand Oaks Veterinary Hospital We are a full service small animal veterinary hospital with an emphasis on personal attention. We get to know you and your pet.

If you want your doctor to hear you and address your concerns then check us out. As no two patients are the same, neither should their healthcare plans. Because we are privately owned, we are not required to follow any corporate protocols. While that idea has become increasingly rare, we feel it is the only way to address your pets' healthcare. If you agree, then give us a call.

We have had a few inquires about the avian flu (H5N1) and it's potential risk to domestic cats. There is some risk for those who come into contact with infected birds, as well as any cat that consumes raw diets and unpasteurized milk. Currently, there have not been major outbreaks, but diligence is warranted. Symptoms in exposed cats are primarily respiratory or neurological, and it can be rapidly fatal. Most every cat with these symptoms will not be avian flu. The only ones to be concerned about are cats with exposure risk factors. We have always recommended against raw foods, and it is even more important now. Keeping your cats indoors and exercising caution when handling any wild birds or their habitat is prudent. If your cat has risk factors stay informed as there are many articles online with more details. There is little need to test most cats and treatment is currently mostly symptomatic. If your cat has symptoms and risk factors, quarantine them and notify us before bringing them in for exam. Alarm is not warranted, but we wanted you to be aware.
