Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS) joins animal shelters and rescues across the country to participate in the ASPCA’s Rescue Effect campaign to raise awareness about the importance of pet adoption and fostering and to place more animals into loving homes. During this effort, PCAPS will offer a weeklong fee waived adoption event beginning September 22 and extending through September 27, 2025.
PCAPS has an urgent and immediate need for adopters. PCAPS is currently providing shelter and care for nearly 200 animals at their location, and space is limited. Most shelters across the country are full with nearly six million dogs and cats entering shelters and rescues in 2024, and animals, especially dogs, are often staying longer in care before being adopted. Choosing to adopt helps the animal you take home and supports many more by freeing up space and resources. Animal shelters have pets of all sizes, ages and an array of wonderful personalities, and if you aren’t able to adopt, temporarily fostering also helps free up space for other animals in need.
PCAPS is offering fee-waived adoptions for a limited time in an attempt to find adopters as soon as possible. Currently, a wide variety of dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and even parakeets in various ages, sizes, and colors are available.
A complete application must be submitted for approval to adopt, and adopters may walk in to meet any or all the adoptable animals at the shelter during adoption hours.
PCAPS is open Monday-Saturday, 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and animals are adopted on a first come first serve basis. You can see all the animals available at www.peoriacounty.gov/PCAPS.
