Mellow Yellow (top left) - 2 yrs I was brought to PCAPS on Dec 22. I have a problem with my left front paw. I lost it while I was on my own. I am learning how to walk on it, and I do not let it stop me from moving around. I really enjoy being held and cuddled. Running and playing is a little difficult right now. I would love to find someone to love me just as I am.

Cleo (top right) - 1 yr 4 mo. I have been at PCAPS since 9/27/24. I am a quiet cat and people often over look all the love I have to give. I really enjoy playing with wand toys and want to be petted.

Eamon - (bottom left) - 3 yrs I am a little older than the other cats, but I make up for it with lots of purrs and head butts. I am still young enough to play and love to watch and hunt wand toys.

Wrigley - 9 yrs (bottom right) - I am a quiet cat and enjoy watching what goes on around me. I am a little scared and shy at the shelter, but I do enjoy attention and would love my fur-ever home.

These cats and many other animals are wishing for homes in 2025. Please meet them at PCAPS (Peoria County Animal Protection Services) and help them find their fur-ever home.

It's time for another Hike With a Shelter Dog adventure and today's hike was with the BOSS MAN! 😎 Here's how it went:

This pup might be small but he is mighty! He must have marked every single tree in the woods today. All the trails belong to him now! He left his "property of Boss Man" messages everywhere. 🤣

Boss Man is a 2 and a half (almost 3) year old chihuahua mix. He has some of the most gorgeous markings I've ever seen (seriously just look at him! 😍) and he is FUN little guy! He marches along when he walks. He KNOWS he's a boss! But he is sweet too, kept giving kisses and enjoyed playing with his toy. 💗

He was very well behaved in the car (just wanted to be in my lap 🥲) and was also good when we encountered other people and dogs. While he is active and loves his walks n' hikes he also really seems to love sitting in a lap and hanging out. Perfect pint sized hiking pal? Check! TV snuggle buddy? Check! Cutest boss in town? Check! ✨️

Hank was able to leave the shelter behind thanks to Paws at Home Pet Care, LLC. Here is what they had to say.

“It doesn’t matter that it is dreary today!! Hank’s eyes are as blue as the sunny skies!!! Hank was ready to break out of the shelter kennel and come on a hike today. He was a bit nervous in the car at first, but once we got moving, he enjoyed looking out the back windows and sniffing the air as I cracked the windows. Hank was very polite on the leash and kept looking at me for approval. He needed a bit of reassurance that he could walk along the trail and enjoy himself. As he got more confident , he took the lead but would not pull so he would make a great hiking or walking companion. He enjoyed stopping to sniff every now and then. Hank is a very polite treat taker as well and knows sit. He loves hearing the phrase, “You are a good boy”! He loved getting pets and scratches and kisses! He seems very loving!! Hank is a gorgeous 1 yr. old male, Catahoula mix that has a brindle base and black spots and some gorgeous white tips on his toes and nose. He took an interest in some deer that ran in front of us and then up the hill behind us. He also enjoys birdwatching! We met another hiker with a dog, and Hank just watched them and whined a little. Hank loved his time out on the trail in nature.”

Another adventure with a Shelter Dog:

Hi everyone! This is Beth from River Kitty Cafe! Today I got the day off to take a doggo from PCAPS on an outing!
Zoe is 10 years old and may look familiar, as she was one of the dogs we gave sweet potatoes to on Thanksgiving. She has been at PCAPS since September ☹️ and she is a recent breast cancer survivor 😭.
I was planning on taking her on a walk but with icky weather I decided we needed some retail therapy. This girl has the best manners! She stayed in the back seat the whole time and loved sticking her head out the window to smell all the smells! She loved everyone she met & the shelter told me she is dog & cat friendly but we didn’t come across any other animals during our adventure. She prefers treats to toys, see the video in the comments of her carrying her treat out of ! She knows sit, high five and is so gentle when taking treats! See our live video that was previously posted of the employee giving her treats, so adorable!
If you are looking to adopt, I would highly recommend giving Zoe a chance!

Check out Ralphie with a 2025 rabies tag!
It's a great time to remind everyone to be sure to register your pet with the purchase of the rabies tag. Monies from the purchase of the rabies tag allow PCAPS to run a shelter for homeless animals, to investigate cruelty complaints, and to do all the great work that we do in the community!
It might not seem like a big deal to you, but to us it means the world!
Income from the sale of rabies tags accounts for over half of the PCAPS budget!

Ralphie, put those towels back and don't bother those cats!
Cat transport kennels are kept covered to reduce the stress for the cats, especially if they're going to have surgery soon!
Did you know that PCAPS will Spay/Neuter, Vaccinate, Microchip, and Return cats to locations where the local ordinance allows?

Ralphie, you're not a mermaid? Take off that glove and do not take a bubble bath in the surgical scrub!!!
PCAPS has very limited space in the surgery schedule for low cost spay/neuter for pit bulls and cats for Peoria County residents. The next time we enroll pets in the program will be January 2nd. We open at 7:30am for this program, but people line up early to secure their spot. If you want to try your chance at securing a space, don't bring your pet, just a photo ID and the fees. One pet per household per month.
