Members of Wags for Mags can get involved in PGI training class, fundraising events, and our new assistant trainer program. Each trainer gets one dog at a time for the period of one day. During the time they have the dog, the trainer goes about her normal routine of going to class, running errands, and doing other things. The dogs are exposed to many different environments and situations that they

may not be able to experience with their foster home. Some of the benefits to the dogs include getting used to working all day, staying quiet and somewhat still for long periods of time, being expected to concentrate around many distractions, and more socialization.

Mango is officially in transition training! We are so happy to have her in this final stage of training. Her favorite skill is “alert,” she loves her toy hippo, and playing with her friends. Stay turned to see her progress! 💛

Meet our new pup! 🐾

We want to give a warm welcome to Wags’ newest little guy. Meet Griff, he is a 10 week old golden retriever. His favorite toy is his stuffed bunny. We can’t wait to see the big things he will do! 🥰

Community Outreach! ✨

Last weekend, we had the opportunity to bring some of our pups to the Peoria Riverfront Farmer’s Market to educate people on what Wags for Mags and Paws Giving Independence is all about. This was a wonderful experience for our trainers, dogs, and those who came to participle. We appreciate everyone who came out to support us! 💗

Grad alert! 🎓

Congratulations to Daisie and her handler for becoming a fully working team! Our student trainer, Abi, has put in so much work with Daisie so ensure she will be the best working dog. Daisie is now a facility dog at McLean County Sheriffs Office! 🐾❤️

Time for class! 📚

Benny got to work on some of his skills in class this past week. He was extra focused and loved getting to be in a new environment. Working with dogs in settings they aren’t used to is very important for their training. Great work, Benny! ✏️

It’s training Tuesday!🐾 Our newest pup on campus is working on exposure to new things. It is important to give our pups as much exposure to things they might interact with in public to build confidence! Ivy is doing a great job seeing an umbrella for the first time! ⛱️

What are the Wags pups learning this weekend?🤩Gatsby is working on two different skills in this video that can be used to help with medical alerts: “nudge” and “get help.” If his potential recipient were to be in a position that they couldn’t get help for themselves, Gatsby would “get help,” find the nearest person, nudge them, and then show them where help is needed!🐾🐕‍🦺

Ozzy & “Touch”

It’s training Tuesday! 🐕‍🦺 Ozzy is working on applying his skills to tasks around the house! He is able to use his skills to close doors with “touch” and turn off lights using “switch”! These commands are really useful to help his future recipient around the house!

Ollie- Training Tuesday Commands

It’s training Tuesday! Ollie is using the “take it,”“tug,” and “touch” commands. “Take it” can be use to grab something and bring it back for the dog’s recipient and “tug” can be used to open things with handles. “Touch” is the foundation for a lot of commands and can be used for handicap buttons, the start of nudge, and opening fridges/doors like Ollie demonstrated! Don’t forget to sign up for our wags classes Wednesday and Thursday!
