Let's discuss NP and NY. Many aren't even sure what it "means". These are the first 2 letters at the beginning of a AKC registration number. Many have done research and believe a dog(Dalmatian) can ONLY be LUA if the registration number starts with NY, however that is FALSE information!! There is LUA in NP bloodlines, that are not from the 2010 backcross project. Now! Even though your Dalmatian has NY at the beginning of his/her registration number doesn't mean they are LUA either. WITHOUT a (hyperuricosuria) DNA test done you will never know- if your Dalmatian is LUA or HUA. A breeder SHOULD provide those test results for you. An NY LUA dal can be bred to an NP HUA dal and the registration will be NY now even though the registration number is NY, DOES NOT mean they are LUA, NY can still be HUA. So be very aware of that, when purchase your forever baby!
Now breeders have contacted AKC about this and the letters/numbers will stay as is. Below I have listed two of my NP registration dogs that are homozygous and heterozygous LUA and a few of their offspring results for educational purposes. They have had 2 litters together- all pups resulting in heterozygous or homozygous LUA❤
