I have been breeding birds for over 17 years already. Most babies are pull from their parents at 2.5 weeks old. They are weaned on varieties of seeds, pellets, California spray millets, and sprout mix. All babies are weaned for a minimum of 2 weeks before they go to their new home.
FOR ALL MY YEARS IN RAISING BABY BIRDS, THESE TIPS WILL BE A LIFE SAVER FOR YOUR BABY BIRD
Baby birds should not be handle much for the first 2 weeks. They need to be concentrating on eating as much as they can. There should be no toys. The same thing goes, if they playing, they are probably not eating. And baby birds need to eat as much as they can. Their cage should never be covered. They need to start eating as early as they can when the first light comes out in the morning. California spray millets should be giving for at least a month. Do not take away the spray millets unless you are sure that your baby bird is eating the other seeds sufficiently. Seeds should be changed daily or even twice daily on a large open bowl no higher than 2 inches. Since babies are a lot more picky then adult birds, whatever they don’t eat, it’s probably something they don’t like. Do not force your baby bird to eat everything before changing the seed. If you do that, more likely, your are going to have a baby bird that is starving itself and more likely die from that. If your baby bird is not acting normal, you need to contact the breeder right away. If that happens to be a baby bird you got from me, you need to contact me right away. Most breeders will know a bit more than your do in dealing with that situation.
