Good afternoon everyone! We have a couple of items to share with everyone this afternoon. First our office will close at noon on August 9th for a staff training and appreciation event.

As we enter the busiest part of the summer we have a couple of requests from you our clients.
1. Please be on time for your appointment. If you arrive late for your appointment you're essentially asking all the appointments scheduled after you to wait. We know there is a lot of road construction going around Washington County that can cause delays but please try to plan accordingly. Moving forward our new policy will be if you're more than 10 minutes late for your appointment we reserve the right to reschedule your appointment.
2. If you only have one animal schedule for an appointment don't bring additional animals expecting them to be seen. Again, your asking everyone scheduled after you to wait.
3. Just don't come to the clinic without an appointment and expect them to be seen. Please call for an appointment.
4. Please use our new email address: [email protected].
5. Verbal and / or physical abuse of any member of our staff will not be tolerated. Irrational behavior and / angry outbursts will not be tolerated. This is a zero tolerance policy. Anyone who can't abide by this policy will immediately have their veterinary, client, patient privileges at Little River Veterinary clinic terminated. Our staff works hard and they shouldn't have to be yelled at or have things thrown at them.

In the coming days the forecast is calling for highs in the lower to mid 90s. Please keep in mind that pets will have a much harder time keeping themselves cooled in these temperatures. Older pets and those with other health problems are especially at risk. Have fans and AC units ready to go ahead of time and limit outdoor activities to dawn and dusk.

We've seen a dramatic increase this week in dogs getting quilled. The porcupines are out in force. Please leash your dogs when you let them out in the morning and evening to avoid this unpleasant experience.

Good morning everyone. This post is primarily for our large animal clients. From approximately noon on Friday March 22 to until approximately 6:00 am on Sunday March 31 we will be unable to provide large animal emergency services. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and ask for your understanding. At present time only one of our three veterinarians practices large animal medicine and that's me, Dr. Bill Newcomb. In previous years I have had an associate that practiced large animal medicine and would cover a weekend a month and the occasional week so I could get away for continuing education conference or family vacations without an interruption in emergency coverage. I no longer have that option available. Thankfully I can meet my continuing education requirements online. In order to provide large animal emergency coverage I have had to stay pretty close to home the last several years. I get to Bangor for a day trip 3-4 times a year. The last time I drove west of Augusta was probably 2018 or 2019. Since 2019 I have spent only one night away from home and that was because I needed to have a sleep study in Ellsworth this past fall. The last time I got to go with Anabel and our two children on a vacation away from home was 2019. Later this month we're taking the kids to Disney World. I very much enjoy being a veterinarian and helping people and their animals. I also love being a good dad and husband. I know some may feel angry or frustrated and I appreciate that. I would only ask that you consider the challenges that having to be a phone call away pose to family life.

Today begins Veterinary Assistant Week! Here at Little River Vet Clinic we have many vet assistants who help our technicians and veterinarians. They are a very important part of our team and we would not be able to work as efficiently or effectively without them. They help in every aspect of veterinary medicine from the moment a patient arrives at the clinic. Our assistants room you and your pets and help keep appointments as safe and stress free as possible. They do a lot behind the scenes, like assisting our vets by holding your beloved pets for examinations, positioning them for radiographs, holding for blood draws and IV catheters, keeping our clinic clean, preparing medications, and so much more. We are very lucky and thankful for our great assistants!
