Whether you’re rolling the dice, spinning the roulette wheel, or playing a round of blackjack, the outcome of each game is a gamble, and the odds are slim that you’ll emerge a winner. Nevertheless, it’s exciting to think that you might be the lucky one who lands the jackpot this time. That tantalizing thought keeps many at the gaming table for “just one more try,” despite the overwhelmingly poor odds of success.

On the other hand, donating to the AASV Foundation’s fundraising auction is a sure bet: a win-win opportunity if there ever was one! Not only will you receive recognition and experience the good vibes that come from donating to a worthy cause, but the result is also guaranteed to help preserve and promote the swine veterinary profession you’re a part of.

When you donate an item for the auction,

It’s a sure bet that your item and donor name will appear in the printed auction catalog, auction website, and mobile bidding app.

It’s a sure bet your contribution will enable auction participants to experience the fun of bidding, knowing they’re supporting a good cause at the same time they’re purchasing your coveted item.

It’s a sure bet that proceeds from the auction will be put to immediate use to support the many scholarships, research grants, travel stipends, externship grants, and other AASV Foundation programs that benefit swine veterinarians and veterinary students.

What are you waiting for? Step up to the table at aasv.org/foundation/auction and place a sure bet by donating an item or cash for the 2026 AASV Foundation fundraising auction by December 1. You’re sure to be a winner!

The American Association of Swine Veterinarians Foundation is accepting applications for the prestigious Hogg Scholarship. Established in 2008, the intent of the $10,000 Hogg Scholarship is to assist a swine veterinarian in his or her efforts to return to school for graduate education (resulting in a master’s degree or higher) in an academic field of study related to swine health and production. To date, 22 swine practitioners have been awarded the scholarship and are recognized at aasv.org/foundation/swine-veterinarians/hogg-scholarship.

The scholarship application requirements are outlined at aasv.org/foundation/swine-veterinarians/hogg-scholarship/. Apply by December 1.

Dr Alex Hogg’s career serves as the ideal model for successful applicants. After 20 years in mixed animal practice, Dr Hogg pursued a master’s degree in veterinary pathology. He subsequently became the Nebraska swine extension veterinarian and professor at the University of Nebraska. Upon “retirement,” Dr Hogg capped off his career with his work for MVP Laboratories. Always an enthusiastic learner, at age 75 he graduated from the Executive Veterinary Program offered at the University of Illinois.

Give your health an autumn boost by getting a health checkup. Autumn is a good time to schedule a physical exam with your doctor. This is especially important if you haven't been to the doctor in a while or if you have any health concerns. During your visit, your doctor can check your vital signs, screen for health conditions, and update your vaccinations.

The American Association of Swine Veterinarians Foundation values collaboration across species and industries to support the long-term advancement of production animal welfare now and in the future. The objective of the Angela Baysinger Memorial Scholarship is to promote the long-term improvement of production animal welfare by supporting experiential learning opportunities for the next generation of animal welfare veterinarians and scientists.

This scholarship is awarded annually to a student with a passion for production animal welfare that is currently working or studying in a field of animal welfare science. This individual will contribute to the body of animal welfare science with the goal to continue to expand our understanding of animal welfare and promote animal welfare education of veterinary students, veterinarians, and the public.

Applicants must be a veterinary student, graduate student, resident, or intern pursuing an existing program in a college of veterinary medicine or appropriate graduate department in an academic institution located within North America.
