Meet this most special guy. This is male number 4. He has not been listed as available. Let me tell you more about him…We noticed he had a swollen leg a few days after birth and contacted our vet immediately. He was unable to see us and so we went to a vet that had immediate availability. Puppy was put on antibiotics. His swelling went down and we were hopeful about his prognosis. We were able to get into our regular vet a few days after seeing the first vet. Unfortunately the puppy lost part of his leg and his entire foot the night before our vet visit. Thankfully he is nursing well and does not seem to be in any pain. Our vet guessed that Gertie may have accidental bit his leg while chewing the umbilical cord off (this is a normal part of whelping and Gertie has successfully detached all the cords herself). Another possibility is the umbilical cord was wrapped around his leg in utero, cutting off crucial blood supply and leading to the dying of the limb. We are devastated for him, but are committed to his wellbeing. Our vet said patience is key and no surgical intervention is necessary at this time. We are planning to keep this sweet boy indefinitely. We may be open to placing him in a very special home in the future, but right now our main priority is to keep him as healthy as possible. Puppy will still be kept with littermates and mama unless we see a reason to separate him. Happy to answer any questions.
