Meet Capone, the resilient 11-week-old Chocolate Lab 🐕
On Saturday, February 24th, Capone found himself in a tricky situation, his rear leg got stuck in the kennel in an attempt to escape his kennel while his parents were not home. Whenever his parents got home they realized what had happened and rushed him to Petal Animal Clinic because Capone could no longer walk. Due to the complexity of the case, they referred him to Animal Medical Center.
Under the care of Dr. Prevost, Capone underwent a thorough head-to-tail examination. Suspecting spinal trauma, a CT scan was recommended to have a better understanding of his condition. To the relief of everyone, the scan revealed no distinct fractures in the spine or pelvis. Dr. Prevost diagnosed Capone with muscle edema or ischemia, paving the way for hope.
Optimistic about Capone's recovery, Dr. Prevost referred him to our Canine Rehabilitation team. Capone embarked on a five-day rehab boarding journey, and the progress was nothing short of amazing. On Thursday, February 29th, he took his first steps using his rear legs.
Capone's owners, overwhelmed with gratitude, decided to bring him home that day, committed to continuing his rehabilitation journey. Capone came in for his MPE with Dr. Hennessey on March 6th and she was happy to see the progress that he’s made and to see him acting like a happy and playful puppy!
While there's more work ahead, Capone's determination and the collaborative efforts of Petal Animal Clinic, Animal Medical Center, and our dedicated Canine Rehabilitation Team have paid off!
Capone's owners shared some words with us "We didn't think that Capone would ever walk again, and watching him play and run around is a miracle to us. We are grateful for the care he received from Petal Animal Clinic, Animal Medical Center, and the Canine Rehabilitation Team."

Meet our Patient of the Month: Shelby the 13 Year Old Labrador Retriever 🌟
Shelby was referred to us for Canine Rehabilitation after she had TTA Surgery at Animal Medical Center. Shelby stayed with us and worked with our Rehab team for a few weeks while her parents were out of town. Erica, our certified rehab practitioner, quickly became her favorite person at Petal Animal Clinic!
Here are some words Ms. Erica shared with us; "Shelby aka "Selbers" is one of the sweetest babies ever. She walked me through the clinic by my sweater every day. I wore a sweater in 80-degree weather, specifically for her. Although I'm glad she's recovering well, I miss her so much❤️”

Our Patient of the Day is Drew the Lab 🐾
Drew Welborn is a 6-year-old Labrador Retriever who was hit by a car a few weeks ago. After evaluation by Dr. Belcher at Animal Medical Center, it was determined that Drew would benefit from physical rehabilitation. Therapies for Drew includes pain management, L.A.S.E.R. therapy, underwater treadmill, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, Asissi loop treatments, and assisted weight bearing exercises. Drew's parents are so happy with his progress, and we are praying that he regains the full motor of his rear limbs.

Libby’s biggest motivation: her mama ❤️ We love the special bond between them!
When a pet has been through something as difficult as trauma or surgery, it is important that pet owners are there to help their pets throughout the recovery process. It can be difficult, however, to know what to do to give your pet the support they need. Fortunately, our veterinarians and rehab team can give you some advice that will make the recovery process easier for both you and your pet.

Cats are accidental hosts of the rodent bot fly, which is the genus of bot flies known as Cuterebra.
A cat can get infected by bot flies by brushing against grass or other greenery in areas with a lot of rabbits or other rodents. Cuterebra flies tend to lay their eggs in the grasses around rabbit burrows and other fun rodent-infested places. The eggs hatch once they detect the body heat of an animal. Then the larvae hop (probably crawl, not actually hop) onto the first animal that brushes by them. Most cases of bot fly infestation in cats occur on the head and neck for this reason.
This sweet kitty was treated by Dr. Patrolia and is now back to living a normal life 🐱
