In the first study of its kind, a new 2023 paper published by Nature Scientific Reports shows dogs given rawhide chews🦴 a few times a month had a significant chance of developing gastrointestinal issues later in life. However, the veterinary scientists also found when offered daily, there was a 117.2% increased risk of developing gut disease!!

On a side note, aside from all the dogs that have lost their lives to intestinal blockages, the last recall by the FDA found a not approved "chemical cleaning agent" called quaternary ammonia (QACs) in these harmful chews. And more recently, the Environmental Working Group reported a chemical used to whiten rawhides, titanium dioxide' was a genotoxin and may damage your dog's DNA.🧬

ATTENTION Pet Parents!

A chemical used in Milk-Bones, Ol’Roy, Kibbles’n Bits, Hill’s Pet Food and other pet foods should no longer be considered safe for consumption due to concerns about its ability to damage DNA according to a new animal-model study.

According to the Environmental Working Group: “A scientific panel created by the European Food Safety Authority found that titanium dioxide “can no longer be considered as safe when used as a food additive.” The panel, citing concerns about titanium dioxide’s genotoxicity, or its ability to damage DNA, based its conclusion on a review of hundreds of scientific studies. EWG called on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to quickly consider whether to ban titanium dioxide from use in food."

A chemical that may damage our pet's DNA should not be fed to pets.

Hot Cars Kill Dogs!!!

Every summer, as temperatures rise, so does the danger of companion animals dying because they are carelessly left in a hot car. While humans cool themselves by relying on an extensive system of sweat glands and evaporation, dogs and other animals have a harder time staying cool, leaving them extremely vulnerable to heatstroke.

Parked cars quickly trap the sun’s heat. Even on a day when it’s 70 degrees outside, the temperature inside a car with all the windows closed can hit 89 degrees in just 10 minutes, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association.

On a hot day, the temperature inside a closed car can shoot as high as 114 degrees in the same amount of time. Leaving the windows open a crack doesn’t eliminate the danger of heatstroke or death.
