The Coffee Test! Can you hold a mug of coffee and walk your dogs without spilling it?
Day 1 of training! Loading up the clicker so I can teach this girl wonderful things!
Ollie doing lots of thinking during this session. We love to promote thinking! Marker words YES (you did it correctly) NOPE (try again)
Three pups. Three different training goals. River knows his commands well and would stay forever until I give him a release word but can worry about others getting treats and not him. Lucy knows her commands well and is pretty good with distractions but not so good at duration she tends to pop up right after a treat thinking that she is at the end of the command. But is very quick to respond to corrections. Yianna is pretty new to training. She knows her commands and will do them quickly but has trouble focusing after the cue. She needs more direction in her corrections to understand what is the right and wrong choice.
Klay is learning how to be polite on leash. That way his owner and him can both enjoy the walk. They are both rockstars and had a nice walk! They connected amazing with each other and Klay is learning to be more aware of his owner while on a walk!
Heels and Auto Sits this morning!
Happy Tuesday! Structured fetch! โค๏ธโค๏ธ
This shy guy finally playing with his bestie!
A lot trainers and owners unintentionally make the mistake of making the treat reward the end of the behavior. Meaning your dogs are ending the calm state of mind with an high energy activity (getting food).
The treat reward is just a nice part of the behavior being asked. The ultimate reward is being released from the asked behavior.
Ending a calming behavior with a calming release makes that calming state of mind linger in the dogs brain much longer than ending with the fun yummy treat.
Another thing I have noticed is that we get lazy about not following through. In this video just as we are about to get up Walnut broke his down/stay. I could have easily just released everyone else since that was what I was about to do anyway. But Walnut needs the follow through and straight forward directions or he can get pushy on leash. So he was asked to down again which is didnโt and was given leash pressure until he downed. Which he did! Training takes a lot of patience and consistency but always brings happiness in the end!
Training Day 1 for Bailey. He needs some help with his Recall. He did so well we quickly added distance and distractions. He still has a ways to go but started off great!!
