Regular ol' peeps volunteering time & aiming to better the lives of the animals that call PACC home. We have simple goals.

Central VA Friends of Petersburg Animal Care and Control is an all volunteer group of people that strive to better the lives of the animals being housed temporarily at the Petersburg Animal Care and Control (PACC) municipal, city run shelter. There are thousands of animals in the state of Virginia that are homeless for a multitude of reasons. Assisting the animals in the care of PACC find their f

orever families by informing the public and rescue groups about the animals. We do this by publicizing the animals with photos and giving as much information as we can about each animal's temperament. Again, we are volunteers and not professionals. We can not guarantee any assessments made by our volunteers based on limited interactions in an environment that may be uncomfortable and unfamiliar to the animal. We will not be responsible for assessing the age, health or temperament of animals.
2. Enriching the lives of the animals through human contact. This may include walks, play time or simply sitting with each animal.
3. Educating the public about the needs of companion animals in order to live side by side with their owners in the community safely and happily

We are not employed by the city of Petersburg or by PACC. We can not make any decisions about the availability of any animals. We can not set up appointments nor can we decide the outcome of any application for adoption. We can not pick up stray animals and do not know if a lost pet is at the shelter. We can not enforce any laws set forth by the city of Petersburg or the state of Virginia regarding companion animals. We will do our best to keep this page updated with animals available for adoption but we are not at the shelter on a daily bases and may not know when new animals come into PACC or when animals have been adopted and have left the shelter. ***URGENT***PLEASE SHARE***

Artic is losing his foster home for no fault of his own and is in need of adoption or a new foster ASAP.

*ARTIC WILL BE GOING BACK TO THE PETERSBURG SHELTER FOR CHRISTMAS OTHERWISE*

He lives with cats and other dogs. The cats are dogs savvy and he will chase but he is redirectable and has never been aggressive towards them. He is good with other dogs but his playstyle is very rough and tumble which not all dogs can handle. In the home, he is calm, sweet, and quiet, but he really feeds off the energy around him so a loud, chaotic home with no where to take a time out doesn't work for him. He is crate trained and house broken! The sweet boy is just around a year and a half old and 60+ big boy pounds.

🚨 URGENT: Help Ryan Find His Forever Home!🚨

Ryan urgently needs your help! Adopted a few weeks ago, it turns out his adopter wasn’t ready for a young dog with a healthy energy like Ryan. So Ryan is now back up for adoption—through no fault of his own! Unfortunately, the Petersburg shelter is beyond full, and another dog coming in means another dog will have to be euthanized to make space. His adopter is holding on to him temporarily, but Ryan needs a safe place to land ASAP. We’re looking for an adopter, foster, transfer, or rescue!

**"Foster secured!***

‼️HELP‼️**ADOPTER**RESCUE**FOSTER**NEEDED IMMEDIATELY!**

Mr. Special! He is scheduled for surgery today to have stones removed from his urinary tract that were causing him not to be able to urinate. He will also be getting neutered at that time and vaccinated.

He REALLY REALLY needs to not to go back to the shelter after his surgery but currently that is the only option for him to recover. He is dog tested and he did great and is a very friendly loving boy!

Please help and share him if you are able!! We are open to a temporary foster situation that would allow us more time to get him a permanent place to land.

Thank you, again, to Richmond Animal Care and Control’s Foundation and the Tommie Fund for making this possible. Without them this deserving boy would have been euthanized due to lack of shelter funding.

Emily Update!! Emily now Roxy went to her new family today! We can’t thank all of you enough for your support and your shares! This little girl’s story could have had a very different ending, but thanks to everyone who shared and reposted and reached out to places, it got her seen and found her forever family!! Lenny Babes

We tried to keep up and say thank you to everyone who helped Mr Lenny Bear Wiggle Butt Baby Cakes Muffin Pants get neutered! It's done! He's chillin' with one of our volunteers, decompressing a touch before he goes to Troubled Tails , a newly minted 501c3 from our friends at established Letteer Dog Training. Please give them a like and share 😜. So THANK YOU, everyone!!! It is really incredible to have such a caring, step up to the plate, let's do this thing, community behind us. Lenny will be headed to Troubled Tails on August 17th and will be there for close to a week. We will update everyone on his progress and assessment. Once done, Lenny will need a foster or adopter. Unfortunatly our current team of AMAZING foster families is up to their gills. Our hearts may shatter if he has to go back to the shelter. Some animals just have a harder time in that environment than others. Please reach out if interested!
