Cowgirl Camp 2023
This post is late in coming as it has been hard to find words for the incredible weekend we had at our Cowgirl Camp. Mornings would find us hard at work creating softness and developing feel using the flag and dry work drills. In the afternoon we would ride out to the pasture to gather cattle, wean calves, and practice sorting. The horses and their riders learned more and progressed quickly with real, purposeful work. We tackled obstacle courses, practiced our roping, and prepared for the branding pen.
On Saturday, we traveled to Oklahoma and put our knowledge learned the last 2 days to the test. Our cowgirls gathered Brahman cross mamma cows on a cold and windy morning. After sorting, dragging calves to the fire, and vaccinating everyone, including ourselves accidentally. The gals cinched up and brought in over 100 high headed, fast moving heifers. They drove them several miles down roads, through rolling pastures with gullies, and across creeks. The heifers tested everyone, but at the end of the day all the cattle and cowgirls made it safely back to headquarters. It was a great day!
This camp has been a labor of love. It started as an idea, born in a field, checking cows during calving season riding a good horse. It accrued to me that I was blessed with good horses created through purpose. It was the honest labor of ranch work that created a true partnership. The happiest horses I know ride to work in a half top trailer. Having worked for top trainers and clinicians, Caleb and I didn’t want to put on your typical horsemanship clinic. We wanted to open our ranch for folks to have an authentic taste of ranch life, with a few upgrades: gourmet meals, a beautifully restored barn for the horses, and RV hookups (we won’t make you sleep in a bedroll). What we didn’t count on was the good people and great friends that came together to make this camp possible. We are beyond blessed for the cowboys and cowgirls in our lives. Thank you eve
Loving our barn renovations. We can’t wait for the cowgirls and their horses to move in! April will be here before we know it 🥰
