PYRescue.org/ We are an organization dedicated to saving and re-homing Great Pyrenees dogs, located in Peyton, Colorado. She was a Great Pyrenees puppy named Nichole.

Judy Dole and Michael Heffron operate a volunteer animal rescue group known as Great Pyrenees Rescue. It was founded by John and Linda Kryder, who became involved in saving Pyrenees after they adopted the first dog they ever owned in March of 1994. At the time they adopted her, John was 65 years young, proving any age is right to get your first dog. No one could possibly imagine the trials and tri

bulations they experienced in learning to live with such an independent and intelligent Great Pyrenees puppy. In desperation, they joined the Great Pyrenees Club of America, participated in the activities of a regional club, and, eventually, became involved in the club's rescue program. One thing led to another, and in 1996 John & Linda separated from the club and formed PYRescue. Since then they have independently and actively worked to place unwanted or abused Great Pyrenees dogs in loving, caring new homes. On the average, they rescue one or two Great Pyrenees per week, and have placed over 800 dogs to date! Judy and Michael run a top notch facility, which can be seen on our Facilities page. The Pyrs awaiting placement have a great meadow to run and play in, comfy beds, and an air conditioned and heated kennel! All funding for their efforts is paid from tax deductible donations or from the Kryder's own pockets, including travel costs, Vet bills, etc. On the average, the Kryder's have been spending about $5000/year of their funds in addition to donations. They are accepted members of the Great Pyrenees Club of America and are the Great Pyrenees rescue agents for All Breed Rescue Network, Inc. of Denver, Colorado. Please think about sponsoring a Pyr we currently are sheltering, or if you'd like to make a deduction to help these wonderful animals, please contact us.

If you work from home, Lolly will make the perfect office buddy because she’s polite, low-maintenance, and won’t interrupt your Zoom calls. She’s great on the leash and loves her belly rubs. You can read more about her on her web page: https://www.greatpyreneesrescuesociety.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=19333722

I am really NOT a fan of dog parks for these reasons -
1. Any place where large numbers of dogs are present probably means there are fleas, ticks, worms, and other parasites YOUR dog can catch. Not to mention, dog diseases like Canine flu, parvo, distemper, and bordetella strains. And no- vaccinating you dog is not a guarantee he cannot still get these, new strains pop up all the time. You have no idea if other dog owners vaccinate their dogs AT ALL.
2. Your dog may be friendly, but again, other peoples dogs may NOT be. If dogs get into a fight, and you attempt to break it up, that is the BEST way to get yourself bitten. And in a dog park scenario, if you OR your dog get injured, there really is no repercussions or justice. Courts look at it as both parties willingly let their dogs off leash and subjected them to events like this, so NO ONE is "responsible" for the fight OR the damage done. There is no liability on either side.
3) Although there are certainly exceptions, Pyrs and other LGD breeds are GUARDIANS. Their job is to protect their flock, and as a pet, their job is YOU. They generally do not care for any other animal approaching you, and will attack any perceived threats that try.
Many dogs are just not cut out for this type of forced interaction.

It is hard...no doubt about it.
Having a new puppy is challenging. Also rewarding 🥳🍾😀.
We have just uploaded a new video to YouTube that covers all the tips and tricks we KNOW work, details in comments.
There will be good days, there will be bad days.
Puppy toileting issues are just as common as feeling the puppy blues and often they go together. It can be incredibly frustrating for everyone, including your puppy.

Hang in there new puppy guardians ! 🙂

Too much too soon WILL cause issues.
It is a really common occurrence with newly adopted dogs.

Congratulations on your new dog.
I know you want to take them to the beach, the pet store and your café....however can I ask for a few minutes so I can explain just what your dog has gone through.....and why you need to take the next few weeks SLOW.
Your new dog has had it's whole world turned upside down.
They don't know you.
They don't know if they can trust you.
They don't know if they are with you for an hour or forever.
They may have been in various scary places.
Other houses, rescues, the pound and likely ALL of these in the past few days or weeks.
Your dog has stress hormones surging through their brain, they are STRESSED....they need to decompress, they need STABILITY in their environment and from you.
They need time with you and their new environment.
They need to know that the tree outside may rustle against the house and that's OK.
They need to know that those normal creaky noises in your house are OK and that at 3.45 the neighbours bang their door shut.
They need to know when it rains that tapping sound is OK.
They need to know that when the door opens they won't be moved somewhere else again.
They need to trust that YOU are safe even when you have had a bad day, you will still give them food and that they can close their eyes around you.
You know what your good intentions are with your new dog, your dog however has NO idea what is happening.....only that everything has changed and it is scary.
They do NOT need other new environments yet. Take it SLOW.
Dogs that have just been adopted need TIME. There is no need to rush out the next day and take them to all the places you want to go with them.....They need the opposite.
Let them decompress, let them inspect a new area of your house or yard every day or two. Walk them up and down outside your house for a few days (and only there), let them sniff, and sniff some more. Let them p*e freely.....it may be boring for you, but not for your dog. They need to know what is happening around them and they learn that through their nose, eyes and ears.
They NEED this.
They need to learn to TRUST you.
The long walks can wait, the café will still be there in a few weeks and you can visit the pet shop alone until they are ready.
Your bond together is the MOST important thing to concentrate on right now.
You will never regret taking it slow and it can save your dog and yourself from making the very same mistakes that can lead to people rehoming in the first place.
All the very best with your new dog.

We have an interesting, but good show this week. Roman Gottfried will be here. Roman is the founder and owner of Roman’s Holistic Dog Training https://www.holisticdogtraining.org/
We love having Roman join us because we always learn something new. What makes this week’s show interesting is, we only have one dog coming on this week, and he has two names.
Iroh/Amos will join us from Utah. He’s believed to be around 2-3 years old, and GPRRUM took him in after he was found in the middle of nowhere and had suffered severe injuries including multiple gunshot wounds, many lacerations from fending off coyotes, and nearly starved to death weighing only 60 lbs. We’re pretty sure the coyotes didn’t shoot Iroh/Amos with guns because coyotes can’t hold a gun and pull the trigger without any thumbs. That means a person did this to Iroh/Amos, then most likely dumped him out there. In the state of Utah, dogs are your property, but working dogs are classified as livestock. That exempts working dogs from any animal protection laws that may be in place. So, what this person did to Iroh/Amos is most likely within Utah state law and do anything illegal. You can read more about Iroh/Amos on his web page: https://gprescuerum.rescuegroups.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=20425526
We hope you can tune in and join us.

When it comes to hotter weather, knowing when to feed and provide water to your pups is key to avoid BLOAT!

Bloat can kill dogs of any age, but older dogs, and specific breeds can be more susceptible to getting bloat.

🐶Avoid exercising your dog for at least 30-45 mins after eating
🐶 No playing hard or excessive 30-45 mins after eating
🐶 After a long hike or run, if your dogs breathing is panting or heavy and above normal, wait 20-30 mins before giving water 💧

Remember, bloat can happen to any age or breed, and you must wait for food AND water to avoid such a painful death!

We have an exciting show this week. Do you remember Lori with the Newfoundland’s? No? That’s because she has been missing in action, but Lori will join us this week and maybe fill us in on what’s been happening. We have a special guest joining us Sunday, Aspen. This boy was fostered by Sydney back in 2021. She said he was one of his favorites.
Poppy will be here. Everybody that meets this 2 year old girl is just in awe. Her foster mom says “Poppy is like a warm cup of cocoa on a chilly day”. You can read her bio in her web page: https://www.greatpyreneesrescuesociety.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=20567506
Barnie will join us Sunday. Barnie is a year old this month, and he’s 50 pounds. Barnie's playful nature knows no bounds, especially when it comes to his favorite pastime: playing with balls! Barnie is a true love bug, and he adores being showered with pets and good belly rubs. You can read all about Barnie on his web page:
https://www.greatpyreneesrescuesociety.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=20110785
Windy Will be here from Texas. Windy is around 5 years old and is a bit timid at first, but once she warms up to you, her affectionate side emerges. You can read more about Windy on her web page: https://www.greatpyreneesrescuesociety.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=20522967
We hope you can join us.
