Today marks Stephanie's 200th days at PAWS. As of January 2025, Stephanie is the longest-staying resident at the Pflugerville Animal Shelter, patiently waiting for her forever home since June of 2024.

Stephanie initially entered PAWS as a stray with visible wounds, where she at first struggled to adjust to life in the shelter. We've come to learn that she finds the barking of other dogs very stressful, leading to us keeping her in quieter areas whenever possible. Even now, Stephanie still isn’t fully comfortable in the shelter environment and would instead thrive in a stable, loving home.

Stephanie is a 1-year-old, mixed breed weighing in at 70 pounds. She is rambunctious and powerful, but also playful and full of spirit. She loves toys and always has the biggest smile on her face during playtime. On walks, Stephanie is curious, treat-motivated, and very eager to learn. Since coming into our care, she has become much less fearful of the world around her, and now loves to run happily and confidently on-leash. Since Stephanie has never been adopted, we sadly don’t know if she is house-trained or crate-trained.

Stephanie is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all her vaccinations (including rabies), and has tested negative for heartworms. Despite her wonderful qualities, she has received 0 interest since her intake.

Fat Elvis really does live up to his name here at PAWS. This 4-year-old, medium-sized young man was found as a stray in mid December, and upon intake, we learned that he weighed 92 pounds! Due to his sheer rotundness, and in order to not conflict with entries already in our system, we chose to give him the name Fat Elvis!

Fat Elvis, despite his weight, is active, friendly, and very adoptable! He's here at PAWS waiting to go home, where he'll be a free adoption through January 15!

Here are some highlights from last weekend's outing with Carmen!

Carmen's been here at PAWS for a relatively long time now--you may recall her as the 3-year-old stray who came into our shelter very, very pregnant last August. Not long after her intake, she gave birth to 5 healthy pups, who have since all been adopted. Though she's been doing better, she still has a hint of the shelter stress she first expressed when she initially entered our shelter, and all the while she's been here at PAWS waiting patiently for her forever home.
