Mea Ola's Place

Mea Ola's Place Rescue, sanctuary, rehabilitation, therapeutic horsemanship. We believe every life is special. Although we would like to save more, we save one at a time.
(108)

Numbers is not our game, as we have many that even other rescues pass up because they are "unadoptable" for one reason or another. However, we have found that every single horse can be used in Equine Assisted Therapy, even if they are just a model for an exercise like anatomy or studying their behavior. As the old saying goes, "Someone else's trash is another's treasure". We love and treasure each

and every life that comes to Mea Ola's Place. Our commitment to each horse is for life, whether that is by finding them a forever home, or providing one for them.

It’s crazy how pictures produce memories. I’m glad Volt is still here and I miss Mea Ola so much. There are so many that have gone on to new homes or that have passed that I am happy for! And so many that my heart yearns for just one more day with.
Mama is the hardest. Although I can say Merlin, Charmer, Dallas, Tekka, Speedy, Drummer and so many more….were so hard to lose to Heaven or a home.
Somehow I proved my love and devotion to Mea Ola. She made me work for it. When she finally realized I was who I said I was, she gave everything to me. Super special.
She keeps me going, and I’m thankful Volt is still here even though I wish he had his own person. He also was so happy to be understood. Isn’t that what we all want? Trust is everything. That’s what we all crave as humans and animals do too.
Be your best always, even when no one knows or is looking.

The little dog I found over a month ago (we called her Tinkerbell) went to her new home today.
I was sure we could locate her owner, but never did.
It’s always bittersweet to let them go. However, she will be spoiled rotten and have her very own boy!❤️

Ooh! Happy dance!😊
He’s finally (day 7) eating on his own with no pain meds even!
What a roller coaster this has been. Now, I’m just praying no one else gets whatever Crush got.
I’ll have some updates on other ones here today. It’s all been about him lately and this was really scary. I can’t thank you all enough for the support and the donations that I didn’t even have to ask for. ❤️ We all know how expensive veterinary care is these days! (Along with everything else in life)
Today will be water bucket bleaching and scrubbing day. I’m going to try something new that my friend Laura showed me to keep the algae from growing so fast and I’ll share that later this evening.
I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. I believe we have finally turned the corner with Crush!

Well, we all are hoping this will do the trick. He was tubed with a mash and electrolytes. His blood work was okay. Just a bit concerned that he is lipemic. I will be stopping at our feed store to buy a few different types of grains to see what I can get him to eat. 😁

So, running a complete blood panel and Dr Hoyme will tube him with some nutrition. I’ll update again when we leave. ❤️

Hi everyone. Today Crush seems to be holding his own. Not alot better, but not any worse.
He still has a fever when the meds for that wear off. Today he is preferring green grass (which there isn’t much of around here) that I have been foraging for him. He takes four or five bites and has done this several times today. Once he has cleaned up what I brought, I go find more. He’s not really into carrots today. However he did also eat several small bites of his soaked integrity. The great news is he is drinking really well today! I guess one could say this is all a slight improvement.
I am going to sneak in a nap and check on him again when I get up. Hopefully he will continue to eat….even tiny amounts.
I was also able to start him on Omeprazole paste today to help with the acid in his empty tummy.
The plan is to go back to Dr.Hoyme tomorrow and recheck his CBC and kidney values.
Thank you all for your support.

It’s still a roller coaster folks. This darn horse put on a show at Dr Hoyme’s. I’m so tired…mostly from the stress of the ups and downs! Thank you to all my friends who showed up tonight to help me help him.
Just keep praying please! ❤️

Oh my! I am totally worn out. What a roller coaster. Crush is doing much better than earlier today. We are on our way home.
So, this morning I had an early doctor’s appt to go over the MRI of my shoulders. Before I left, I checked his temp and it was 102. Dr Hoyme said only to give meds for it got above 103. He got his antibiotics and seemed about the same as yesterday.
I had the gal that helps here feeding for me this morning. And she called me while I was at the doctor’s office to tell me Crush had been down 4 times and was miserable. So, that was different.
I called Dr Hoyme and he told me to give him more banamine and to bring back.
When I got home he looked weak and sunk in. His eyes had changed and he looked like he wanted to give up! I gave him the banamine and waited for my friend to get here to take us back to Dr Hoyme’s. (My poor old truck can’t make that trip anymore)
Crush ate a couple of carrots for me and we loaded him up about a half hour after he got the banamine.
When I took Crush out of the trailer, he was totally different….better! He wanted to eat for the first time in 3 days. He ate grass and some hay. Dr Hoyme drew some blood and gave have him some water.
The blood work also showed improvement. He is running another test to check Crush’s kidneys because he’s had ALOT of medication… without eating.
Please keep Crush in your thoughts and prayers. We aren’t out of the woods yet, but I’m hoping he just turned the corner to getting better. I can’t believe in a matter of a couple of hours that he just started feeling better than he has since this started!
Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes! Also to those of you that donated when I didn’t even ask! ❤️
I took his window down while we were getting gas and he wanted some of my blackberry tea. 😊

Crush was such a good boy. We are headed home. He has to come back on Thursday though. He has a dangerously low white blood cell count and we don’t know why. There is a possibility it could be a virus, but since we don’t go anywhere or have any new animals for years, it may be something else.He has a little fluid around his lungs but they sound clear. He’s well hydrated so that’s good too.
Anyhow, we are loaded up on antibiotics and we will make another trip down to check his bloodwork on Thursday, unless he gets worse and we would have to go back right away.

Poor Crush. 103.5 temp, won’t eat and feels awful. He is pooping and is hydrated, but we are about to load up and take him to Dr Hoyme. It’s darn near impossible to get a vet out for an emergency anymore. I’ll keep everyone updated.

Fun stuff! Rowdy has a bromance with the neighbor. The stray dog is learning ranch life while we are still looking for an owner. Shalia is getting grey around her eyes and muzzle. Gracie enjoys her food as do they all! And fatties Babs and Tilly demanding supper tonight.

I had an incredible day yesterday. I was invited to help represent the High Desert chapter of Partners Against Violence at a rally in Sacramento. The Victorville office is in danger of being closed due to budget cuts. I spoke at the budget hearing to stress the importance of the services they provide to many survivors in our area (including myself over the last 12 years). So many great groups and organizations of selfless survivors that give their all to help others heal are in danger of being shut down.
It was quite the experience and there is money proposed in the budget now. Prayers and fingers crossed that it passes and that Newsom signs it! ❤️

Hi everyone. It’s with a heavy heart that I come today. I had to let Karma cross the bridge.
Many of you know her survivor story. She was thrown from a car in 2016 near the ranch. It was about 9pm at night and she drug herself to our sign by the road. I initially thought she was hit by a car, but that was not the case.
I am including the first picture I ever took of her. I had scooped her up from our sign near the road and laid her on the floor in the kitchen while we could assess her and the situation. She had scrapes and some road rash, along with bleeding from her re**um. I thought she might have a broken pelvis because she would not try to stand.
We rushed her to an emergency hospital where she spent the next four days. When the vet called me the first night, she said that her injuries could not have been sustained from being hit by a car. The worst injury she had was an 8 inch tear inside her re**um. She has contusions, scapes and bruises, but no broken bones thankfully.
Karma’s recovery was much more involved than a hospital stay. She had deep emotional scarring resulting from whatever she had been through. We all watched her heal and grow over the years. She became much more than a survivor. She became a thriver.
Karma loved everyone and all sorts of animals. She helped me with every orphaned animal I raised. This included kittens, birds, chicks and turkey babies. She loved on Halia the baby cow, and literally any animal in need of mothering.
She was Hunter the cat’s favorite dog. They had a really special bond.
Wherever I was, you could always find Karma. She was so loyal to me.
I am so thankful that Dr Lynde was able to come here! Karma passed so peacefully and stress free, right on her own bed. One thing she never got over was the fear of getting in a car. It would have been so traumatizing for her if I would have had to take her in.
She had mammary cancer that appeared to have also been in her right rear femur and hip.
She did still have an appetite and she got a barbecued ribeye all to herself last night and even got to enjoy the bone! She got raw liver for breakfast and had a full belly when she passed.
I will be missing her like crazy, but I knew it was her time.
It is the very most painful part of loving another soul. We were so blessed to have had each other for 8 good years!
Hug your loved ones today (two and four legged). We will all be gone someday. 😔❤️
Rest in peace my beautiful brave girl! We shall meet again!

Hi everyone! I have some news today.
Well, getting older is no fun. I’m officially off work for the next 2 months. (To start) It appears I have tears in tendons connecting to my rotator cuffs. Both shoulders. Ugh! My job is extremely repetitive and it’s been awful on an old gal’s shoulders.
Anyone applied for SDI lately? What an experience, just saying. And to top that off, I don’t know how people like seniors that aren’t computer savvy can even book an appt for an x-ray or MRI. None of the places around here will book an appointment any other way and it was frustrating to say the least!

So, my first official “day off for medical” and guess what!? I had to rescue this sweetie from being hit by a car. “It” was in the middle of a busy street and completely clueless about traffic….frozen in the middle of the road.
Anyhow, no chip and only about 7 months old. I will do the 2 week hold looking for an owner. Sq**rt is enjoying company close to his size, lol!
Hope you all are doing well! Thanks for your dedication and continued support! 💗

Happy Friday! It’s our May Five dollar Friday feed drive. This year is flying by. Spring is here and summer is just around the corner!
This last week we got a lot accomplished which took some funding to do. We had to rent a brush hog this year as the w**ds were absolutely out of control. We also had a w**d machine donated that will help to keep things under control so we don’t get in that spot again. All total, we spent over $500 to get the property fire compliant and tidy. I included a couple of pics before and after. The w**ds were literally 3-5 ft high in many places on the property! It’s a huge issue for many property owners this year.

Will all of that said, it’s another reason these feed fundraisers are so important. We still spend $800 a week on feed alone and it doesn’t leave much for the needed maintenance, farrier, vet supplies, fly control, etc. Your support is very needed and much appreciated!
You can always donate directly to the Feed Barn at 760 868 4840 (we do get a discount) or https://www.paypal.me/meaola We also have Zelle 661 557 2680.
Thanks so much to all of you that support our work. So many have had second chances because of you!❤️
