We had a great time Saturday working on multiple skills necessary for Dog Parkour. Thank you to everyone who came out. I'll have some photos up soon.

To say I'm proud of my Nose Work students who are competing is an understatement. I'm just as proud of the progress of those who have yet to step into the trial scene. You all are doing marvelously.

As most of you are aware there is an uptick in canine upper respiratory illness circulating in 12 states including California. Although we have not heard of any cases in our immediate area we do have students who travel to classes from out of the area. In an attempt to minimize the risk of spreading the illness during our training classes, students have been addressed and I've made some adjustments to our nose work classes in particular. Since we already crate dogs in vehicles and have ample room between vehicles there is little risk of close contact. Please refrain from petting other dogs before, during or after class, don't share treats or training equipment. Give ample space between dogs when coming and going to the training areas. If your dog has been exposed to or showing signs of illness, please contact me and do not bring the dog to class.

While we need not panic, it's always good to be proactive in these types of situations. Thank you everyone for your cooperation.

I had so much fun instructing an introduction to Dog Parkour workshop today and watching the progression of the teams. Everyone did great and the dogs had fun. What a great group of dogs and handlers. Thank you for coming out. Looking forward to doing it again.

Show and Sport is happy to announce an upcoming Dog Parkour workshop in Phelan. I'm in the progress of becoming a certified Dog Parkour Instructor and throwing this out to see who might be interested before we set a date. As we want it to be an enjoyable experience, I'm looking at April when the weather is better as we will be working outdoors.

What is Dog Parkour? Parkour, also known as “urban agility” is a great sport to boost confidence, build strength and strengthen your relationship. Parkour is a challenging, but fun activity to do with your dog. It includes, jumping, climbing, going under, around and balancing utilizing items found in the environment. You can use trees, benches, walls, logs, playground equipment, picnic tables, boat docks, stairs, the list is only limited by your imagination. Inside exercises can include laundry baskets, exercise balls, scaffolding, carts, stairs and boards.

Benefits of Dog Parkour:
Builds confidence and trust
Helps overcome fears
Develops thoughtfulness in actions
Great for senior dogs, low impact
Marvelous for developing body awareness for other sports​
All dogs can participate in some form of Parkour

Parkour should always be done in a safe manner, evaluating all obstacles and surfaces before ever asking your dog to interact. Safety and creating a dog willing to participate and have fun doing so are our primary concerns. Once you start Parkour, you will look at the world completely different. You will always be on the lookout for fun places to play with your dog.

Tricks are so fun to teach. Once the dog understands an individual behavior it's easy to chain them together. Mercy knew the sit pretty. This week we taught her to offer her paw. Today she offered a sit pretty with a high five!

We have a late cancellation for the afternoon (1-5 PM) Live Coaching workshop on March 26th. Message me or email for details.

What is live coaching? You get to pick how you run the search! Blind, known locations, known amount, or our favorite....."Lifeline", which is where we intervene only when needed.

Got more than one dog? You can run a different dog (maximum 2 per session) for whichever search you want but you only get one shot at it. So run dog # 1 for containers and dog # 2 for vehicles- what ever your training goals are!

Teams should know and respond to the odors of Anise, Birch, and Clove.
