Navaja - Adoptable Dog from PSPCA

Navaja - Adoptable Dog from PSPCA Navaja is a 2 year old male mix breed available for adoption through PSPCA. Contact his foster home for more info: [email protected] Hi there! My personality?

My name is Navaja. Did you know that the navaja is a traditional Spanish folding-blade knife? Maybe that's my name because I'm so sharp! I'm a star at sit, down, touch, come and paw. I'm also housebroken and crate-trained Whew!! I've been busy learning all this great stuff. Well I love a good play session out in the yard where I can run around and play, but I love a good snuggle just as much. I al

so enjoy all kinds of things like bathing, brushing and car rides. Because I can be a bit uncomfortable with new situations, an adult household would be best for me. I shouldn't live with cats, but I might be happy sharing my life with another larger dog. I'm patiently waiting for my forever home and hope you're the one! I'm currently in foster care. If you have any questions or are interested in meeting me please email my foster mom at [email protected]

This is how Ty feels about not getting adopted in 2022.

He is dog-friendly, loves people....and has been waiting too long.

Dear Santa Claus,

My name is Victor Zaz and I am writing to see if you can make my wish
come true.

My friends at the shelter say I am a sweet guy with a sensitive soul.

My wish is to find a Special Forever Home where I can live quietly with
another canine companion in a calm, low traffic household. Ideally I’d
have adult humans who are willing to give me lots of time and space to
get comfortable at my own pace.

Some of my favorite things are watching birds, people, exploring and
snoozing. When it comes to treats, give me soft treats like cheese, a
licky mat with pumpkin, yogurt and a lovely stuffed Kong.

Santa, I know in the right home, I could be a very happy part of someone’s family.
Can you work your magic, Santa? I would be forever grateful.

Lots of Love,
Victor Zaz

Victor's adoption fee is waived for the month of December!

Dear Santa,

Christmas is coming, but I'm not happy. I don't feel the way I'm supposed to feel. I want to be on a cozy couch, watching Peanuts Christmas, with my humans by my side.

It makes me sad that I’ve been at the PSPCA so long. I always try sitting like a good boy in my kennel but I often get overlooked.

A Good Samaritan found me as a stray and brought me into the PSPCA in May. I’ve been in the shelter since then and I really hope to have a home by Christmas. My friends at the shelter give me so much love and for that I’m so grateful, but I would love a permanent place to call forever.

I know my family is out there, so I’ll try to be patient until then.

Please let them know that my favorite things include belly rubs, long walks, and trying all kinds of treats! I’m not picky at all - as long as I get to be a little selfish and have them all to myself.

My perfect home would be one with older kiddos and maybe even a doggie sibling!
I know I can make someone really happy.

Please help me find a home Santa!
-Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown's adoption fee is waived for the month of December!

Dear Santa,

I am so excited for the Holiday Season. It's my favorite time of year since it's when the PSPCA rescued me last year.

I promise I've been a good boy.

All I want for Christmas is a family that loves me as much as my buddies here. I'm looking for people who would love to go on adventures and show me just how wonderful this world is.

People who want a curious dog that will help me learn. If they have a pool that would be the best because as you know - swimming is my favorite thing to do! I've been here for a year now and I just know I'm ready for a home. I know my people are out there.

Will you bring them to me!?

Love,
Cider

As part of our Letters to Santa campaign, Cider's adoption fee is waived for the entire month of December!

Dear Santa,

It’s been one whole year since I last wrote to you, asking for you to find me my family for Christmas – and I’m still here at the PSPCA.

Don’t blame yourself Santa, I know you tried really hard to find me a home last year and I’ve been working really hard to make the best of the situation too.

Instead of moping around feeling sorry for myself - I know, I know, sometimes I look a little down - I used this whole year to become the best dog I can be!

With the help of my volunteer friends, I can sit, give paw, fetch and I’m even working on my agility with the obstacle course! I learned that I love going on adventures away from the shelter, sometimes going on hikes and even swimming. I do love swimming!

As I’ve gotten more confident and comfortable, I’ve really come to love playing with all my friends here, and even went home with a few of them for weekends, just to prove that I also know how to be a chill couch potato to watch TV with.

I think all this work I’ve put in is really paying off. Yes, I’m still still here, but I’m now much more well-rounded, full of love and loyalty, just waiting to make someone’s life complete.

I believe in you Santa, and I know you believe in me too! This is our year – the year you’ll find me the family that needs me and the year I’ll finally find out what it means to be home for Christmas.

Lots of love from your favorite, goofy gal,

Rosie

Ty is tired of living in a kennel.

This young pup was in our care for more than a year before getting adopted. As you can imagine, after all that time he needed an adjustment period. But, his family brought him back to the shelter for the exact behaviors we told them to expect.

So, now he waits again. Ty loves other pups and is just an energetic boy. He loves people too, but needs to learn how to show them without jumping up on them.

Next Saturday, October 29, Ty's fee (and every dog who has been here for over a year) will be WAIVED! Join us starting at 10am for a "Howl-o-ween" parade followed by fee-waived adoptions!

10/19/2022

Titan is ready for tonight's game in his Philadelphia Phillies collar and keeps barking something that sounds eerie similar to - "Ring The Bell."

If you're looking for someone to watch the games with on the couch, Titan is your guy. He has been in the shelter for almost an entire year just waiting for his home.

To help him, and so many others like him, we are hosting a Fall Fest event on Saturday, October 29 when fees on our longtimers will be WAIVED. We'll have a doggie parade, family-fun activities and of course so many dogs looking for homes.

Save the date and Go Phillies!

10/17/2022

When Titan arrived in November of 2021, he was scared and shut down.

He didn't trust us.

But, today, he has come so far. He has so many friends, and the two pups that came in with him had long been adopted. But, he's still waiting.

So many dogs are waiting for you here. Please open your hearts and homes. We need you. They need you.

Hey, it’s me Rosie. Don’t forget about me. I have been here since May if 2021 and I’ve had ONE adoption meet in all that time.

I’m 8-years-old, have lived with cats, and am open to meeting dogs. Please share.

Meet the Hockey & Hounds Rescue of the Week: Lovebug!

Lovebug is a 1-year-old pittie mix who arrived at the shelter on September 11, 2022. A Good Samaritan had found this handsome guy in their neighborhood and brought him here in the hopes that someone was looking for him. Sadly, despite spreading the word far and wide, Lovebug's family never came to find him.

But, that's ok, because now we're on the quest to find him a perfect home. He is wonderful with just about everyone and tolerant of everything (he was happy to put on his Flyers jersey!). We think he could live with another dog, and reportedly on his adventures in Philadelphia was good with the neighborhood cats too! Lovebug is recommended for homes with children 6+, but the age requirement can be lowered for those dog experienced households!

"Once I get to know my humans, I love them with all my life.

I get along with all dogs and I love walking and running, but city cars and unexpected sounds outside scare me.

My foster mom tells her friends that I am extremely low maintenance and I am happy with literally whatever is given to me.

Once I get to know you I always want to be around you. My favorite thing to do is nap, spy on the neighbors and get unlimited treats and pets. I am respectful of giving space to my humans and other dogs, but at times I demand for pets and I speak with my paws but gently.

I would like to think I am pretty independent. My favorite thing to do is hog toys and pile them up, secretly bring dead leaves from outside and oh boy I love my chews and bones. I have never chewed or destroyed anything else. I am a very gentle and a smart cookie. I will read your body language and act accordingly.

I do LOVE begging for human food and snacks. My foster mom always smiles and awwws at my zoomies. I have so much joy to share. As per my foster mom, I AM THE MOST PERFECT WELL-BAHAVED FOSTER SHE EVER HAD."

If this pup sounds like the one for you, email [email protected] and make sure to say you're inquiring about Zatana!

Guess who is FINALLY ready for adoption - little kitten Spicy Tom!

Tom was found in a shoebox, in a park, with severe head trauma. Our team did EVERYTHING to save him - and today he has made a full recovery.

Now, this spicy guy is in search of his forever home. Here's some more about him, but if he's the one for you, email [email protected]!

"Hi everybody my name is Tom! I'm a little kitten about 3-4 months old, but I'm on the smaller side.

I have quite a story. I don't remember the beginning, but I remember when I was really little and very, very sick a nice person found me in a park and took me to the Pennsylvania SPCA. The folks there were so nice, but they were sad because I had a very bad head wound and they didn't think I'd make it. But I did make it and got strong enough to go to my Foster mom!

She's been taking good care of me, and I got stronger every day. Only thing is I didn't know about humans, and they scared me so I wouldn't let Foster mom hold me, and I hissed at her. She called me her little feral guy and was willing to wait until I learned humans were okay.

So now I'm strong and healthy and I'm also getting used to humans and I know they are good but it still scares me to be held so me and Foster Mom think I need a very special home with someone who will let me be myself and be patient until I learn to like them and want to be near them, I do like to play with toys and I love chasing wand toys with Foster mom holding them for me. I also love Churro and will let her feed it to me.

If you have a nice quiet home and would like to be patient with me then maybe I could be your kitty! Email [email protected] and they will put you in touch with Foster Mom."

WE NEED FOSTERS!!!

Did you know that you can help save lives by lending us just two weeks of your time? It's true, take it from Cortado.

When dogs come to us from other shelters, whether that is down the street at ACCT Philly, or anywhere else, they need to go into a 2-week shutdown before being ready for adoption.

During this time, it's ideal for them to be in a foster home. It helps us learn so much about them to help find them families, and of course it opens space for more animals in need.

If you can foster, please sign up today: https://www.pspca.org/foster

1250 days. That is how long Carlos has been waiting for a home.

That's over THREE YEARS.

Carlos is good with other dogs - in fact he SHOULD go into a home with other pups. So, what's holding him back? He doesn't look great in his kennel, and he can be timid, but he deserves a home.

Please share for Carlos!

Kaz is a super smart cookie who also works for cookies.

Here at the shelter, we have yet to find any enrichment that Kaz can't solve with that big brain of his. A frozen bone wrapped in paper and put into a taped box? Kaz gets it done in 5 minutes flat.

A wobble feeder? Super exciting, and he gets all the kibbles out.

A frozen kong? Challenge accepted!

This long limbed boy loves to go for walks, and walks very nicely on leash. This boy has a pretty mellow demeanor when you first meet him - his ways of showing affection include small kisses, resting his beautiful face in your lap, or leaning up against your side. But don't underestimate him! He will suddenly get a case of the zoomies, and then play and pop all around the room, waving his toys in the wind.

Kaz is the best of all things: he's sweet, smart, and equal parts chill office buddy and playmate.

Please come meet Kaz at our Philadelphia headquarters.

Rocky is old.

10-years-old in fact.

He's blind in one eye.

He has bad arthritis that requires pain meds.

He is in renal failure.

And, he is living what could be his final days in a shelter.

Rocky was adopted back in 2014 and spent seven years in a home. When his family was moving late last year, he was returned to the PSPCA.

We are dedicated to our dogs for life. And that is no different when they are at the end of their lives.

All we want in the world is to find a place for Rocky to spend his final days, weeks, months or if his people are really lucky, maybe even years eating all the treats, taking all the naps, and playing with all the toys.

Did we mention that the people who adopt this special soul who be the lucky ones?

Will you help us spread the word about this boy who deserves nothing more then to find a final place to rest his senior head?

Email [email protected] to learn more and adopt.

Adopt this pup.... Pronto! Introducing the cutest little, short-legged fellow there ever was. Pronto pup is a lovely young gentleman who enjoys the finer things in life: digging around in dirt, going for walkies, and playing with his doggie and human friends! He's currently hanging out in foster car...

"I'd be a lucky dog if you went to prom with me."

Prom season is here, and we couldn't leave our animals out of the party. We are hoping that soon they'll all "graduate" to their homes, but for now they deserve to celebrate!

Bark Vader asked his best friend, Amanda to go to the prom with him. Amanda, a behavior coordinator, has spent so much time helping this little man come out of his shell. And it sure is paying off.

At just 20 lbs. Bark has a big personality and knows what he likes and what he doesn't. He LOVES food, like A LOT. But, he doesn't like other pups or cats. He prefers to be your one and only and will give you so much love and attention.

Bark takes some time to warm up, but when you're his person, it's love forever.

We'd love to tell you more about this tiny pup with a lot of s***k (it's ok if he finds his home before the prom!).

Email his people at [email protected] to set up a date!

Navaja’s Journey

Hi there! My name is Navaja. I just learned that I have to find a new home or return to the shelter. My family is moving and can’t take me with them. They reported that I am a GREAT dog. One of my favorite things to do is obedience training where I learn to sit, lie down, come when called and really like to show off my spin and twirl moves especially when it’s feeding time. l am working on loose leash walking and feeling more comfortable walking in new places. When it comes time to unwind, I love to spend time in my crate with a peanut butter filled Kong toy. I am housetrained and really thrive on a predictable schedule. Whew!! I've been busy learning all this great stuff. My personality? Well I love a good play session out in the yard where I can run around and play, but I love a good snuggle just as much. I also enjoy all kinds of things like bathing, brushing and car rides.

Since I am an old-fashioned guy, I am looking for someone who will go slow with me. So a household with children 15 plus would be best for me and I am looking to be an only child with no cats. I'm patiently waiting for my forever home and hope you're the one! If you have any questions or are interested in meeting me please email my foster mom at [email protected]. My motto is “Love freely given is love gained”.
