How it started ➡️ How it's going.

When Maverick arrived at our Main Line Animal Rescue (MLAR) site, he was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Our veterinary team has been caring for him ever since. And even we are stunned by his miraculous recovery.

This is only possible with your support.

Please consider making a donation today, on , to help us save animals like Maverick. AND, please spread the word to help find those responsible.

Maverick shouldn’t be here.

Plain and simply put, someone intended to end him. But, instead of meeting a tragic end, we gave him a new beginning.

Visit our earlier post or stories to learn about Maverick and please consider making a donation today on to save lives just like his: https://www.facebook.com/PennsylvaniaSPCA/posts/972667021556358

IMAGES IN THIS POST MAY BE CONSIDERED GRAPHIC.

It is not a stretch to say that Maverick, the dog, is lucky to be alive.

On November 20, a Good Samaritan found Maverick on Crane Street near John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge in Philadelphia's Eastwick neighborhood.

Maverick had been shot in the head...at close range.

He was brought to a local emergency veterinary hospital, who then called our Animal Law Enforcement team. Once he was stable enough to be moved, he was transferred to our Main Line Animal Rescue site, where he underwent surgeries and received around-the-clock care.

Miraculously, he is recovering - though he is doing so blind in his left eye, and with lingering mobility issues.

Perhaps even more stunning, Maverick loves people and, in recent days, has been seen romping around the yards at the scenic shelter site.

We saved Maverick, but, there is more work to be done.

We need your help to find those responsible for the clearly intentional act to this sweet soul. And, we need your support to keep fighting against animal cruelty for animals like Maverick.

If you have any information about the person(s) who shot Maverick, please contact our Animal Law Enforcement's cruelty hotline at 866-601-7722 or email [email protected]. Tips can be left anonymous.

If you are in the position, please donate today to help Maverick and animals like him who have been subjected to such heartless and horrific acts of cruelty.

Beautiful and vulnerable Katniss the cat was found on a doorstep with her leg dangling, broken and bent backward.

She had been shot.

But, luckily, she found her way into our care at the Pennsylvania SPCA's Main Line Animal Rescue (MLAR) site. The x-rays revealed bullet fragments scattered throughout her leg, neck, and shoulder. It was clear this wasn’t an accident - someone had intentionally harmed this sweet cat with unthinkable intentions.

But, despite everything, Katniss survived.

While the damage to her leg was irreparable, her sweet demeanor remained intact. She may be living life on three legs, but she is doing it in the comfort and love of her forever home.

Today on Giving Tuesday, you'll be inundated with emails, but we hope you'll be inspired to give by this one.

Every day, the Pennsylvania SPCA's team performs miracles. That simply wouldn't be possible without your support.

One day on the way to work, a Good Samaritan stumbled upon a moving trash bag.

Instead of walking past, they decided to cut open the bag and discovered two beautiful green eyes peering out.

Inside lied Codi.

Discarded like garbage, this sweet pittie was barely alive. His body was stiff, his legs were paralyzed, and he didn’t respond to touch. He had been seemingly left to die on the street alone, but luckily, he was rescued just in time.

After intensive care and physical therapy from our veterinary team, Codi defied the odds and made a miraculous recovery. Though a bit shaky, he learned to move on his own once again and walked right into the arms of his new family.
Codi’s story could have ended differently that day. But because of your support, he is now safe and loved in his forever home.

We know that tomorrow, on Giving Tuesday, you will have many opportunities to donate to worthy causes, but we hope you will consider donating right now to the Pennsylvania SPCA.

Codi, and so many animals just like him, need you.

We’ve been keeping another big secret…

Last weekend, Ang had the opportunity to meet our friends from the Philadelphia Flyers and he was the best boy!

He must have brought them some luck too - they made a huge comeback and won in overtime - something he is no stranger to.

After being stabbed twice, Ang made the best comeback of all and survived. Now, he needs a family.

We know they are out there. Please consider adopting Ang today.

One of our favorite shelter residents, IZ, was the very best guest at NBC10 Philadelphia this morning.

This old man has had a rough road - he was rescued alongside 16 other cats from a single home. He is blind, and soon to be toothless too.

But, he doesn't let his past interfere with his future. All he wants to do is purr and receive love.

He's looking for a forever home to spend his final days, and he so deserves it!

Please email his foster mom, [email protected] if you are interested in learning more and giving him his best final chapter.

“Thanksgiving is a time of togetherness and gratitude.”

While the end of the year may bring with it feelings of gratitude, we are thankful for our partners at Freshpet every single day.

Our animals, like Roscoe who arrived to us emaciated, and all of us, could never truly express the difference Freshpet makes. That doesn’t mean we won’t try.

Thank you ❤️

Found in a box with a note that read "please help us," Mash and Potato were abandoned, left to fight for their lives.

When a woman brought them to the Pennsylvania SPCA Lancaster Center, she couldn’t, or wouldn't, say where she found them. 😢

The circumstances of their arrival were heartbreaking, but there was more. Sadly, these precious puppies tested positive for the deadly parvovirus.

If left untreated, parvovirus has a nearly 100% mortality rate. We wasted no time transferring these babies to our Philadelphia headquarters for lifesaving care. 🙏

Thanks to the incredible veterinary team at the PSPCA, Mash & Potato are receiving the treatment they desperately need. And they are out of the woods. We are confident they will make a full recovery❤️

Let's show them the love they deserve by donating toward our lifesaving mission, today on $5 Friday.

And, stay tuned for updates as these two little fighters continue their journey to recovery.

Cheesecake’s life hasn’t been easy.

Quite literally born in cruelty, we saved him as a weeks old puppy from a dog-fighting operation.

From the very beginning, his life has been a story of survival and hope. Though he spent most of his life growing up in a shelter, Cheesecake has never lost his spirit or his heart.

It may take a little time for him to warm up, but once he does, he’s incredibly loyal and affectionate with those he trusts. Cheesecake is one of the smartest dogs you’ll ever meet — he loves working through challenges like agility and knows a plethora of tricks.

Cheesecake is open to meeting other lowkey dogs and would thrive in a quiet, loving home where he can continue to heal and grow.

He’s spent too long in the shelter, and it’s time for this beautiful boy to experience the comfort of a real home. He’s ready to show the world that despite his past, he has so much love and loyalty to give.

Please ask about Cheesecake today.

The most notable thing about Cider? He is ALWAYS happy.

Even on the day he arrived to us, he was smiling.

Three years later, and that smile has never faded.

He greets everyone with joy and is excited to do quite literally anything. He loves life and he loves his people.

Cider will make a family so happy, if only someone would see him.

Cider has been waiting for his forever home for three long years, and in that time, he’s never stopped dreaming of the family who will love him just as much as he loves them.

Despite his wait, he’s always kept his spirits high, and you can see that joy in his big, happy grin.

Three years may feel like a long time, but to Cider, it’s just a moment in his journey to find the right person to call home. Could it be you?
