Check out Passie's softer side! This diva has a well-earned reputation for being temperamental, but she's so much more than her sass. She's a complicated girl who enjoys love and affection, but has a hard time being her best self without space to roam and humans who can read her signals.

She's looking for a special adoption placement where she can enjoy safe outdoor access for her natural kitty behaviors, then come home to spend some time with the people she loves (without being inclined to chomp you). Are you the cat-savvy bestie Passie has been searching for? Email [email protected] for more info, or learn more at phillypaws.org/passie!

Minnie’s journey to her forever home is a story of love and new beginnings — and not just for her. This wiggly girl was rescued by PAWS after a Good Samaritan found her outside. She immediately won hearts with her sweet and silly personality, and only continued to blossom in foster care. When Chasity and her family saw Minnie on our website, they knew she was the missing piece they had been searching for, especially for their pup Winston.

"She is such a joy!" she shares, reflecting on how much Minnie has changed their lives for the better. "She brings so much happiness to the house, and even more to Winston. Since our last pup passed last October, Winston had been in a slump. Now I see such a boost to his mood. He runs around the yard with her and he is playing so much more." With her bright spirit and newfound bond with Winston, adopting Minnie is a gift they will treasure forever. Chasity sums it up perfectly: “I feel our little family is complete!”

This sweet grandpa has been through some heartbreak and is looking for a foster home!

*UPDATE: Frog found a foster, and is now ready to find an adopter!*

Frog had a really wonderful life with his adopter — a dog and cat friend, a big yard in the 'burbs, and all the love he could ask for — but he only got to have 9 months with them before his owner sadly passed away.

Even though Frog is clearly feeling stressed and confused, he's every bit as kind and loving as we remember him — all the way down to his smiles and happy tippy taps when he's excited! He was originally found tied to a park bench before we rescued him last year, and he managed to win over the hearts of many officers, staff, and volunteers during his time at PAWS.

Frog is estimated to be about 10 years old, and would love to find a home where he won’t need to climb too many stairs since he has some arthritis. He's lived with a cat and dog previously, so he may not mind joining a household with mellow pets again!

If you’re looking for a senior sweetheart to join your family, Frog is ready to find love with an adopter as special as he is. Email [email protected] for more info, or visit phillypaws.org/adopt/dogs!

When Paula suddenly lost her pet-friendly housing, she faced the heart wrenching reality that none of her short-term living options would allow her to bring her beloved cat, Handsome. She reached out to one of our rescue partners thinking she’d have to give him up permanently, but instead, they connected her with PAWS.

Through our Safety Net foster program, we were able to take Handsome in and match him with a temporary caretaker, giving him a safe place while Paula got back on her feet. After a few months, the day finally came when Paula and Handsome were joyfully reunited.

Offering temporary care for pets whose owners are going through times of transition not only relieves stress, it preserves precious bonds and creates hope. PAWS is proud to have served 110 pets and their families through our Safety Net foster program in 2024, and we’ll be there for even more who will need us in 2025!

If you'd like to help us keep more families whole, email [email protected] to learn more about becoming a Safety Net foster.

Happy (almost) New Year! All PAWS locations are closing at 3pm today and will remain closed on New Years Day, with regular hours resuming Tuesday, January 2.

Can Gizmo count on you? Through midnight, gifts are DOUBLED up to $50,000 to make TWICE the lifesaving difference for pets like him who desperately need our help.

This friendly senior was brought to the crowded city shelter after he was found wandering alone in Fairmount. He was suffering from arthritis, cataracts, and severe dental disease that required surgery — issues that were far beyond the shelter's resources to treat.

Your support ensured PAWS was there to give Gizmo a soft place to land, provide comfort and care for his senior ailments, and reassure him that he is safe and loved. Now in a foster home for the holiday, Gizmo can look forward to a healthy mouth and finding new love in 2025 ❤️

This matching opportunity is an incredible gift to animals just like Gizmo who will be counting on us in the coming year. Please donate now — and ring in the New Year by offering TWICE the hope, healing, and safety!

Celebrations abound this time of year — and today, we're celebrating Mildred's appetite! This sweet senior hasn't been into her food due to a very persistent kitty cold, as well as a painful dental condition that we can't provide surgery for until she's healthy again. We were thrilled to see her scarfing her food today, but we might not be as successful tomorrow. Can you foster Mildred to help her feel well again?

This little dumpling is estimated to be 8-9 years old, and was struggling to survive on the street before a Good Samaritan spotted her. She's very grateful for petting and affection, and we suspect she was likely a family pet in her past life. If you'd like to ring in the new year with some extra karma and a soft and friendly companion, email [email protected] to learn more about Mildred today!

When Thumbelina arrived at PAWS, she began her journey to healing, comfort, and love. It was just in the nick of time for this sweet former stray: her painful skin wounds, requiring medical care far beyond what the city shelter could offer, put her at risk of euthanasia. Thanks to supporters like you, we were able to welcome this special kitten and start her on a path to a whole new life.

Though Thumbelina was severely injured, her endearing personality was unscathed. Through weeks of exams, medications, wound care, and bandage changes by PAWS’ medical team, her endless capacity to play and cuddle (and her many extra toes) earned her a special place in our hearts — and finally, a permanent place as part of a family!

Thumbelina is now living every day to the fullest, and can look forward to the New Year with love in her heart and joy in her life. Together, we can bring that warmth and security to many more pets and people who will need us in the year to come.

As we count down to 2025, you can ensure we’ll be ready to provide safety and new beginnings to thousands of pets like Thumbelina who will rely on us in the coming year. Give before midnight tomorrow, December 31, and a generous group of donors will match your gift, dollar for dollar, up to $50,000! That means twice the reasons to celebrate as we work to save lives and keep families together in the New Year.

PAWS is 100% donor-funded, so our ability to rescue and care for pets like Thumbelina depends on supporters like you. Please act now, as this generous matching gift will only last through midnight tomorrow. Whether they need a loving home or help staying with the people who adore them, your support will make pets safe and keep families whole in the year ahead.

Make your lifesaving gift today via Facebook, Venmo (username ), or at phillypaws.org/safety.

Ooh la la! Meet Paris, the fabulous feline with a personality as big as her namesake! 🇫🇷 She's got the charm, the grace, and all the purrs to go around.

This fabulous girl roams her kingdom with confidence, following her human around and snuggling up for all the purrs and cuddles. 🐾 She loves getting brushed, watching the world from her cat tree, and playing with her feline siblings—she’s a social butterfly and gets along great with other polite kitties. 🐱✨

Paris does have a unique story and is looking for a home through PAWS' hospice adoption program. She’s living with stage 1 mammary cancer after our vet team removed a small mass in August, and while there's a possibility that her cancer will come back, there’s no sign of cancer elsewhere, and she's as happy and sassy as ever!

Paris might be a little different from other cats, but that doesn’t stop her from living her best life. This 8(ish) year old sweetheart is looking for a family who can cherish her and keep her purring for as long as possible. ❤️

Paris’s adoption fee is waived, and she’ll even get an Amazon gift card to help you stock up on supplies for her new home! 🛍️ Interested? Our team can answer any questions and guide you through the adoption process. Email [email protected] for more info on beautiful Paris today!

Fostering changes lives! 💙 We’re so grateful to everyone who welcomed a four-legged friend into their home over the holidays, whether for short-term fostering or extended stays. While foster families play a crucial role in providing a safe space for these pets, PAWS also relies on the support of amazing partners like Petco Love to ensure we have the resources needed to sustain our foster program.

While the holidays may be coming to an end, there are still many animals who need foster care — whether they have medical or behavioral needs, require a break from the shelter due to stress, are kittens or nursing mothers, or are pets waiting to be reunited with their families through our Safety Net foster program.

Email [email protected] or sign up at phillypaws.org/foster to kick off 2025 by changing lives!

This video might not look like much, but it's a big step for Gracie! This sensitive girl has been so stressed in our main cat housing room, she was lunging at anyone who approached her cage. But we know that's not really Gracie — she was in a loving home before she came to the shelter, and her owner described her as being friendly, affectionate, and playful (as well as a bit shy).

Gracie came to PAWS through our Safety Net Program after her owner lost their pet friendly housing, and is urgently seeking a foster home where she can decompress and feel safe until she can be reunited with her family. She’s made huge strides at the shelter after being moved to a smaller room, and we’ve also learned that catnip goes a long way to helping her relax!

If you’d like to give Gracie a soft place to land until her reunion with her owner in a few months, please email [email protected] to learn more!

Riddle us this: HOW is Cletus not adopted yet? This 9-month-old heartmelter is the ultimate BFF:

🐾 Play Pro: Fetch, tug-of-war, or chewing on his favorite bone -- Cletus is always ready for action.

🐾 Hug enthusiast: Loves jumping up for hugs and soaking up affection (after all, he's still a baby)!

🐾 Puppy vibes: He's full of energy, eager to learn (especially when snacks are involved), and is excited to grow up with you.

🐾 Adventure buddy: Cletus recently visited The Franklin Institute and even met their head astronomer (not to mention the dozen kids he met along the way who absolutely adore him)!

Cletus is very dog friendly and would enjoy having a tolerant canine pal at home, but what he wants more than anything is a loving home with you! If you're looking for a smart, playful, oh-so loveable companion to join your active family, Cletus is your guy.

Learn more about this adorable ham at phillypaws.org/adopt, or if you're not ready for a lifetime commitment, email [email protected] about fostering – he's looking for a short-term sitter while his foster mom is out of town!

Dogs like Cletus are able to be saved thanks to partners like Petco Love. Their continued partnership empowers PAWS to rescue more vulnerable animals and provide them with the care they need. We are so grateful for Petco Love’s generosity in 2024 and their long-time support of our lifesaving work!

12/27/2024

Sugar Ray is one of the 2,244 animals who have found lifesaving treatment and second chances at PAWS so far this year – and he needed a lot of love when he arrived. Estimated to be 15 years old, he had been found outside in poor condition, with cataracts, a bladder infection, and significant weight loss due to chronic kidney disease. Ray’s prognosis was extremely guarded after so much time without treatment, but luckily, veteran foster parents Jess and Mike were up for the task.

They’re no strangers to geriatric dogs, and they've been working closely with our medical team for months to get Ray stable again, providing diligent care, daily fluids and medication, and lots of love. This gentleman has finally turned a corner thanks to their hard work, and while his journey is still unfolding, he can now look forward to a brighter future — as part of a family who’ll cherish him.

Pets who are sick, injured, or fragile due to age are among the most vulnerable in the city — and the ones most urgently in need of rescue. PAWS prioritizes saving these animals from the city shelter (ACCT), and directly takes in as many stray and owned pets as possible, preventing them from entering ACCT in the first place.

Our ability to save and care for homeless pets — many of whom need time in a home to heal, grow, decompress, or learn a routine — depends on the number of dedicated foster parents we have standing by, ready to help. We are beyond grateful to all who answered the call this year: you enabled PAWS to place 1,659 pets into 820 loving foster homes so far in 2024, with more continuing to find comfort each day!

Despite the challenges we faced in 2024, there were countless reasons to celebrate. We look back with pride on thousands of great matches, protected bonds, happy reunions, and new beginnings. And we are grateful, because none of it would be possible without you.

If you haven't given yet this holiday season and are able to, please consider making a donation to PAWS right now. All gifts up to $50,000 will be matched through December 31 at midnight! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you have made possible. Here's to doing even more together in 2025!

Foster needed for Johnny Roomba! Can you believe this friendly senior is almost 20 years old? He's lived through low rise jeans, the rise of social media, and 4 presidential administrations, but all he really cares about is getting back into a home where he can live his days in comfort. Johnny found himself at the shelter after losing the only home he's ever known, and he's just caught a shelter cold on top of having hyperthyroidism. While he's shockingly spry and chipper for his age (and his weight, TBH), his health has the potential to sharply decline if his stay at the shelter lasts too long, so he's looking for an exit as soon as possible!Johnny is confident and friendly with every person he meets, and hasn't had any big reactions when he's seen dogs or cats (although he'd need his own separate transition space while he's recovering from his illness). PAWS will provide all the medication and follow up care he needs – you just provide the love! If you'd like to help this handsome little ham enjoy his golden years, email [email protected] to learn more about Johnny today!
