I don't think people realize that if we don't meet our goal for Stenton we have to return everyone's contributions. The platform functions like Kickstarter, where you either fund your project or you don't. We're hopeful we will get there. $411.50 to go! We provide young people with opportunities to reconnect to the earth: nurturing, tending and healing their relationship with themselves and the land while experiencing agency over what is planted and grown. We are sowing seeds for food, but also for new narratives around what it means to be in relationship with nature. !

If you're going to hit up any Weavers Way Co-op Tuesday throw us a dollar or two at the register! Summer is the slowest time for this, so we'd really appreciate it if you're around. Our org supports food justice initiatives and educational programming all around the NW. So your dollars don't go just to us, they get funnelled back out to the community to support gardeners, farmers, youth growers and other programs with things like education, supplies, programming and more at places like Saul High Martin Luther King High School, Stenton Family Manor, Pleasant Playground Community Garden, Awbury Arboretum Community Garden Club, to name a few. We'll share more news and highlights on this page, IG and in our resurrected newsletter over the coming weeks. Happy Summer Ya'll!

Elaine S. Holton recently joined the Food Moxie Team and we are very excited!!! Check out her post below to hear about how she will be working with us. Welcome, Elaine!!!

Posted • This summer I joined the team at to develop and incubate 2 growing programs this year.

The first program is creating a Food System that allows Food Moxie to grow, harvest, process and distribute our produce grown at Stenton Family Manor, Awbury Park and MLK highschool to support mutual aid groups offering prepared meals this summer.
We’ll collect data on how much produce we can grow in a season and use Quality Improvement tools to help us work efficiently. Did you know MLK high school has a Culinary Arts program 🤩🤩🤩

We’re excited to begin supporting this summer.

Please check out next month’s shuttle article for an interview with Ainhoa Woodley .noa, Food Moxie’s Saul High school Educator! Below they describe how they have been working with Saul students this Spring season and include a fun dandelion recipe. If you try it at home, comment below and let us know what you think!
*******

This spring at Saul High School, we have been gathering for land-based activities to enhance student connection with nature and the farm. One of the activities we did was make dandelion fritters! There is an abundance of these delightful little plants on the farm, and students foraged their dandelions before we fried them and ate them (with hot sauce of course).

Recipe is listed below, in case you would like to try this on your own!

1 cup of dandelion flowers (the yellow part only)
1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
seasonings of your choice (chile powder, thyme, oregano, garlic powder, etc).
1/2 cup corn oil
1 egg
1 cup milk
Wash and dry dandelion flowers. Pour oil into a cast iron pot or pan. Mix egg and milk in a small bowl. Mix flour, cornmeal, and seasonings in a separate bowl. Pour milk and egg mixture into flour mixture and mix well to form a batter. Pour extra milk if needed. Cover dandelions in batter and then fry in the pan for 1-2 minutes on each side, until crispy. Serve and enjoy!
