🐶 Kilo is one of the dogs who benefited from our medical fund. This 100+ pound of sweetness came in as a stray and needed surgery on his eye. We were able to send him to the vet for his surgery and he recovered at the shelter, where we really saw his happy personality come out as he started to recover! ⁣

🔊 Many don’t realize: ACCT Philly is the 𝗢𝗡𝗟𝗬 open intake shelter & animal control provider in Philadelphia helping 𝟭𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 animals annually. We can not choose to turn away animals due to behavioral or medical needs. The level of care we are able to provide depends on the support we receive. ⁣

𝗜’𝗺 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀: A bubbly fun girl who likes to run and play!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗜 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲: “sit” but I’m treat motivated (love snacks) & would love to learn more.

𝗠𝘆 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲: Because I have a lot of energy, I’d do best in an active home where we can have playtime, go on walks, and adventure together! My friends at ACCT say I should also have mental enrichment too, so a home where you’ll take time to work with me on training and give me lots of treats would be really great!

"As far as my time with Pepsi, what a wonderful experience this has been so far. She’s an absolute joy to be around with her spunky, energetic personality. It’s unique knowing that I can invest my time with one dog and expose her to situations she may otherwise not receive (for example, long walks in local outdoor areas, taking her to parks, working on training, etc). I’m hopeful my time with Pepsi will be successful in getting her a forever home!!"

"I decided to become a Pen Pal based on the prospect of potentially keeping in touch with a particular dog after they get adopted, and possibly playing a larger role in their adoption process. I didn't see the time commitment as being too far removed from what I've done in the past when I've really connected with a particular pup. I would absolutely love to see Malika, Blue, Fendi or any other dog that I've spent time with at ACCT Philly living out their best lives with their new family. I feel the Pen Pal program gives me better odds at making that reconnection possible.
I chose Haven as my Pen Pal because she reminded me a lot of my dog that just passed. Haven is quite shy and while I haven't unlocked the mystery of what treats she prefers, I'm hoping to charm her next time with some fresh bacon. I'd love to see Haven come out of her shell more as she gains confidence in knowing that she means a lot to us volunteers. I hope that through this process she can present herself more immediately as the sweet and happy dog that she currently keeps buried within.

𝐈’𝐦 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬: A shy gal who is calm and very sweet. Sometimes I can take a little while to warm up to new people, but if you hang in there with me, you’ll get rewarded with lots of love and tail wags.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐫𝐞: “sit” but we’re working on more.

𝐌𝐲 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞: I’d do best in a quiet home where I’ll be allowed the time and space I need to warm up to my people. I enjoy walks and outside time, that would be fun for us to spend time doing. In no time at all I’m sure I’ll show you that I am an affectionate little lady and I love pets!

It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of PenPal Dartrix. He was pulled by Brandywine Valley SPCA many months ago and has been loved there every since while searching for his forever home. We thank them for all they’ve done and thank his foster family for being there in the end.

Rest Easy Sweet boy 🌈❤️

Sometimes everything you can do is just not enough. This afternoon Dartrix crossed over the rainbow bridge surrounded by many of the people who love him. Dartix had been with us 16 months and before that at ACCT Philly. The past five months a kind couple welcomed Dar into their home as a foster and showered him love. Recently his health took a turn, and he was diagnosed with lymphoma. His quality of life declined rapidly, and the difficult decision had to be made to let him go. Dartrix left knowing what it's like to have a family thanks to his fosters and how cherished he was by our volunteers and staff. We know many of you in our community were rooting for him, too. Rest easy, Dar, and know you were loved 💔🌈🥎.

EXCITING NEWS : Little Miss Destiny was adopted! She has been with her new family for a little bit now but they are already in love ❤️ here’s what the adopters had to say:
“Our first week with Destiny has been so good. She's the best girl! She’s getting better on walks & is very good with training. & we can't get over how potty trained she is!! We noticed she doesn't like to eat plain dry food by itself so we mix it with wet & she'll devour it haha. We can't wait to continue bonding with her.”

When it comes to I think she takes first place ❤️

Destiny is one of ACCT's longer term residents. She's an only pet kind of gal and could live with older children but she has all the love you'll ever need. She's goofy, playful, sweet, and appreciates a good butt scratch.

🆘 Frankie - Timestamped for Monday 8/16 10am

Frankie is a sweet loving and smart pup looking for the chance to show his full potential. He’s had many dog meets & enjoyed lots of adventures and cuddles with his PenPal. This short video clip is from his evaluation on 8/7. It shows how he reacts to strangers, engages in training & overall disposition. Session was 60 minutes and he was excellent!!!
He is RESCUE ONLY so he will need a foster AND approved rescue to save his life. He’s just 1 year old and could be great with a consistent home and training.

Welcome Maxwell to PenPals - He is super handsome and we aren’t sure how he’s been overlooked this long!
Maxwell is about 3 years old. So far we know he enjoys a good game of fetch, is a great on car rides and would love to have a yard of his own to run in.
He is currently working on his manners and to improve some jumpiness and overarousel. His ideal home is an active one without children under 12 years old where he can continue to work on good boy behaviors.

When Frankie aka Macho first came to ACCT in May he was not in the the best condition. But boy how he’s changed. Macho is mucho smart & ready to find his forever home today!

He arrived at the shelter with jumpy behavior tendencies so his Pen Pal & volunteers are helping him with impulse control, sitting calmly for treats, & staying grounded. He's getting better everyday but adopters will need to set boundaries, reinforce his good behavior and be comfortable with making him be his very best self. He recently meet with a CPDT-KA certified training for an evaluation and it went great. He’s got real potential.
While in a previous adopters home, he showed signs of anxiety but with medication and consistent training this should be manageable.

On this we welcome Ricco to the PenPal Program.
He was surrendered with his brother after his owners unfortunately lost their home and he has been waiting patiently (over 2 months😢) to catch the eye of his forever family.

A few things we’ve learn about Ricco while he’s been here are that he loves to eat grass 🍃 , he enjoys car rides 🚗 , snuggle time makes him smile, and butt scratches are a must!!! He has lived only with adults & it was noted he did not like cats, but could probably do well in a home with older kids.

This sweet senior would thrive in a home quieter that's not busy with hectic schedules and lots of visitors.

Happy Saturday!!! We thought we’d brighten your day with a happy pupdate …………………. Onbak has been adopted!!!! His new family now calls him Moose and we think it’s just perfect. He's been doing great in his new home. He’s already gained some weight and is loving his doggy brother (maybe more then toys😉) His new Mama and Dad can’t stop gushing over how loving, silly and how much of a lap pup he is. This is what we dream of for all the dogs of ACCT. Thank you to his PenPal for giving him extra special attention and to all his volunteer friends for supporting and loving him. Happy Tails!!!

Meet Ghost - newest member to the PenPal program and also one of the longer term residences at ACCT Philly

Ghost is growing up in the shelter and that breaks our hearts. He is around 1 year old and is dog friendly & would love a home that will help him blossom. He needs people and animal friends who are mature enough not to take his playful energy the wrong way. He is very smart and seems to enjoys taking car rides with his shelter friends.

Ghost does need ‘Cherry Eye’ surgery which occurs after a tear gland in a dog's third eyelid becomes inflamed.
BUT don’t let that worry you, If he can find a foster through ACCT; The Lichter Foundation has offered to sponsor his surgery. Also, LIFE Foundation has collected funds to support the rescue or adopter who pulls him in making sure the procedure can be completed. Theses funds will paid directly to the vet providing the surgery and is paid after the surgery is complete. For questions, they can be reached at [email protected]

Onbak is the shelter’s favorite cheeseball! His goofy faces are guaranteed to make you smile on the gloomiest of days, his go go go lifestyle will have you in the best shape of your life in no time, and his passionate love of toys will keep Petsmart in business for years to come😅 Onbak is currently working on polishing his manners and may not be the right fit for a home with small children....but he’d be a great choice for a home with another dog- he used to live with dogs!

More good news- Macho has been adopted! He headed out to the burbs and all the good things that come along with life outside of the city- including a big back yard to romp around in! Macho has gained a four legged sister (who was also adopted!) and will finally have the easy breezy family life that he waited so patiently for.

Anyone who has ever had a wiggle worm for a pet would understand this photo🤪 This is Maple Bacon and he’s officially been adopted by his foster family!

While it was a bit of a bumpy road to this happy outcome, MB thrived in his foster home and he is deeply loved. A million thank you’s to MB’s family and especially to his Pen Pal, Melissa, who always believed in his goofy self!

🌸🥳🌸Super Sunday BIG NEWS- Amber Lewis is outta here!!!! Her Pen Pals were contacted by her future adopter who said that Amber seemed like the perfect dog for him. They made an instant connection when they met, a very unusual thing for AL- she likes to take her time! The rest is history as they say, and we think this photo of a rarely smiling Amber shows that this was truly meant to be❤️

Happy Update: Joker was returned to his family! This is a good thing as Joker was well loved by them for a long time. We are very happy they were able to figure out a way to keep Joker and we wish them well❤️❤️❤️

Welcome Back To The Pen Pals, Joker!

This smiling boy was recently returned to us after being adopted nearly two years ago😩 Joker’s family reported him to be a good, fun dog who’s great with children (he lived with children as young as 6!). During his first stay at the shelter, Joker was a volunteer favorite, a playgroup rockstar and a record breaking member of the running team! Joker’s super sad to be back (although his shelter friends are overjoyed to see his face again!), so we’d love to find him a nice, new family quickly! We got this Joker!
