Philadelphia Zoo

Philadelphia Zoo Philadelphia Zoo is home to 1,900 animals, many rare and endangered. Check our website for hours.

Situated on 42 acres of beautiful gardens, the Philadelphia Zoo is home to nearly 1,700 animals, many rare and endangered. Gorillas, African lions, Amur tigers, a white rhino, giraffes and more call this oasis home. As Philadelphia’s leading cultural destination the Zoo boasts award-winning exhibits such as Zoo360, KidZooU, Big Cats Falls, McNeil Avian Center, and PECO Primate Reserve. Zoo360 is a

one of a kind animal exploration system that allows small primates, great apes, big cats and now meerkats to travel and discover the Zoo’ s campus. KidZooU: Hamilton Family Children’s Zoo & Faris Family Education Center offers displays and hands-on learning along with and rare and unusual goats, sheep, chickens, mini horses and ducks for toddlers to tweens. KidZooU changes the Zoo experience for both animals and guests alike. The outdoor exhibit area includes a 400-foot trail for rare sheep and goats, and a “goat bridge” built above the KidZooU entrance. While the goats scale their own supersize tower, children can climb a parallel structure. Indoors, families will marvel at a world teeming with coral reef fish, colorful parakeets, desert ants, and other extraordinary animals. Interactive exhibits show visitors how saving energy and recycling can help save wildlife. By connecting people with wildlife, the Philadelphia Zoo creates joyful discovery and inspires action for animals and habitats. As the region’s leading family destination, the Zoo welcomed more than 1.2 million visitors last year and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Coming soon this April, here's a sneak peak of Zootopiaries: Nature's Sculptures! 🌺 🌱

As a part of the reimagination of the Zoo’s gardens, we've partnered with Santoline Mosaïculture to fabricate five towering, three-dimensional mosaic topiaries, modeled after different species of animals. Spread out across Philadelphia Zoo's campus, these whimsical figures highlight the interconnection of art, plants and wildlife. Stay tuned for future updates on our garden plans!

It's...a...GIRL! 💕🙈

We're excited to officially introduce you to Yeti, our female baby colobus monkey born in January. Colobus monkeys are born white and then transition into the black-and-white coloring as they get a bit older. Yeti is doing great with her family and can be seen in PECO Primate Reserve or up above in the Zoo360 Trails!

Meal time for Makini the African lion! 🦁🦴

A lion's tongue is covered in tiny, spiny papillae, giving it a rough, sandpaper-like texture. This helps them remove meat from the bone with ease while eating!

Our giraffe feeding experience is back and our trio of gals are a hungry bunch! 🦒🍃

Great news! We are to proud to announce a generous donor-advised fund grant of $75,000 from the Foxwynd Foundation for educational enhancements in our new Bear Country Exhibit, currently under construction and set to open in March 2026!

This funding will enable the Zoo to provide informative content that enhances the visitor experience and raises awareness about bear conservation. The redesigned Bear Country exhibit, which will feature naturalistic habitats for the Zoo’s sloth bears and Andean bears, is part of a broader initiative to educate the public about the ecological roles and conservation needs of bears. The Foxwynd Foundation’s contribution specifically supports the creation of interactive educational materials that will help visitors better understand the importance of bears to diverse ecosystems and the conservation efforts required to protect them.

This funding is part of the Foxwynd Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting environmental education and sustainable practices in community institutions!
