☀️ It’s a scorcher out there! We're adjusting our walks to keep pups safe — think shorter strolls and potty breaks and more indoor play time. 🐾💧 Those sidewalks are simply too steamy to be safe. 🐕‍🦺🔥 (Rosa agrees!)

Here are a few ways YOU can help your dog stay safe in the Philly heat:
🕶️ Walk early or late to avoid peak temps - if you can't, limit it to short potty breaks and supplement walks with indoor play and enrichment activities during the day.
💦 Keep water available at all times
❄️ Use cooling mats, fans, or frozen treats to chill out indoors. (Stuffed frozen Kongs are a big favorite over here!)

We have some news at Minder HQ. Many of you know we lost our dog a few weeks ago. Last week started posting about a very sick pup who needed a dog-free foster home to heal while he was contagious with various respiratory viruses. ❤️‍🩹 After a few days and no applications, things were getting desperate. I can't say no to a sick rescue dog and we were a dog-free home, so we signed up to foster.

You know how this ends right? In failure. We fell in love... hard. I always said I'd never adopt a puppy (we always adopt older dogs), but his puppy energy is everything we needed in this moment. He can't be left alone for a second, he's in the THICK of potty training, and he's perfect. Our house has become a dog toy circus (gotta keep those teeth occupied) and Nature's Miracle is always an arm's length away.

We haven't been without a dog since November 2005, and those few weeks without a dog in the house felt... wrong and quiet. I always knew this, but it came so much more real to me in those weeks - LIFE IS BETTER WITH A DOG. We know everyone processes loss differently, but Jax was a shelter pup from and I know he would 100% approve of us rescuing Tui. (We re-named him Tui after a very common bird in New Zealand. Tui rhymes with Chewy.)

Thanks to everyone at Street Tails Animal Rescue who didn't give up on him when he crashed with pneumonia. (He was on oxygen and fluids for two days at the vet before we snagged him.) There are so many wonderful dogs in shelters right now - of all breeds, temperaments and sizes. (There was a Great Dane at Street Tails last week!) There is truly a dog for everyone.

Folks keep asking us what he is.
We know Tui is:

💚 25% loves to nap on top of us

This week we're saying goodbye to Decker because he is moving on to his advanced Seeing Eye training in the coming weeks! 🩷 Minder Tyler and the entire Minder crew have loved getting to know him over the last year and this is bittersweet for us (so we can't imagine what it must feel like for our clients!) Thanks for trusting us with the first part of Decker's journey to change someone's life. The Seeing Eye program is simply incredible (as are the wonderful humans who temporarily raise amazing dogs like Decker.) 🫶
