Little Buddy, he is a character and can be fresh, but he has come such a long way since we got him. He trusts people much more now and he is friendlier overall.

As we remeber today the lives of so many lost on 9/11, Mylestone is a recipient of a grant each year from the Alison Marie Wildman Foundation. Alison's life was cut far too short because of this horrible tradegy. Alison was an animal lover and avid rider. Her family visisted the rescue early on and met the Mylestone horses. It is an honor to be part of Alison's legacy.

I am heartbroken to share with you that we had to have our dear sweet pony “Cookie” humanely euthanized. We knew when the police seized her three years ago, she was in horrible condition. She over came so much abuse and neglect, she fought for two weeks in the equine hospital after being rescued in 2021. She spent the last 3 years here loved and adored. Her medical issues from horrible neglect plagued her, she had such damage to her front hooves but she rallied time and time again thanks to her wonderful farrier Todd and vet Dr MaryBeth, an arsenal of medications and her devoted caretakers and volunteers. Unfortunately, she developed abscesses in her right front hoof again and this time the x-rays showed that the infection has reached all the way to her coffin bone which was already damaged from years of neglect. We couldn’t bring her back from this diagnosis and it would eventually result in her turning septic.

Cookie spent the morning with people who loved her sitting with her in her stall. She ate lots of treats and we made sure she enjoyed grazing on grass which she hadn’t been able to do with her hoof condition before the vet arrived. She left us instantly and painlessly. But she forever left a hole in our hearts because she was so truly grateful to be rescued. Thank you to everyone who helped with all her medical care over the years. She was one of a kind , she tolerated so much because she knew we were trying to help her. She made us laugh with her nickers, and pig grunts. Cookie truly loved us back and she knew she was loved and adored. It is rare to have a horse or pony touch so many people and Cookie did. I don’t think in my 30 years of rescue that I have ever come across an animal as grateful as Cookie (my little Peanut) was to be saved. 💔
