Sharing another tidbit from our riding lessons! On the last ride of the semester before Christmas, two of our riders were challenged to ride the full lesson without stirrups! Some of the many benefits of this include improving balance, leg position, and the rider’s seat. A confidence boost is a massive plus as well! Great job to our riders for being up for any challenge we give them!

Just a reminder that the Dream Riders of Kentucky office will be closed for the holidays from December 24th to January 1st. Also, please note, the first semester of classes will begin on February 3, 2025 and we have a few spots still open. Please contact our Program Director, Toni at [email protected] for questions or to request a rider application.

Our resident Lady is just what her name implies, a gentle-natured, well-mannered horse that loves her job at Dream Riders. She is a cross between a Quarter Horse and a Thoroughbred, which despite her name, makes her extremely athletic. Her favorite thing to do is take a trail ride on a nice day, and her second favorite thing to do is roll in the mud after her bath! Because she is smart and well-trained, she can carry some of our more advanced riders in the program.

Lady has been generously sponsored by Farm Credit Mid-America however, to adopt one of our other incredible horses, or donate to the 2025 Horse Care Fund, please click here https://onecau.se/holidayhorsecampaign

A barn favorite, Peanut, (who kind of looks like a peanut), has a coat that shines like a gold coin. But this is no one trick pony! This multi-talented Halflinger is sturdy enough to carry a beginner rider or a rider with balance issues and is also strong enough to drive a carriage! He is not bothered by much, which makes him a great horse to work in our program.

Next up, Pixie, our small Welsh pony. This tiny but mighty little horse is an expert in helping those who struggle with learning and behaviors, build confidence. And she will soon be helping many more people across the community as part of our new outreach program, beginning early next year!

Check out Ruby, our sparkly girl whose coat glistens in the sunshine! This bay roan has seen lots of little miracles happen at Dream Riders. She is a wiz at teaching letters, numbers and how to go left and right, not to mention patience, perseverance and other meaningful life skills, she loves her job!

We have to say Miss Sue probably loves her job more than any other horse in our herd. Because she herself has overcome some obstacles in her life, she excels at teaching others empathy. This gray mare enjoys most of all helping those with different abilities make their lives better.

Our pinto-colored horse Stella is one of the younger members of our herd. Known as the protector of the group, she is always the first to alert her herd-mates to any possible danger that may be approaching. But her favorite role is working with our young participants and making them laugh!

Please meet Tom, a horse that is grateful for second chances. After being abandoned several years ago, this 24 year old Thoroughbred was rescued, brought back to health and found a new home at Dream Riders. Today, Tom helps his human friends gain confidence and strength. And if you are having a bad day, he is the first to give a little nudge to make it better!

Today marks the start of our Twelve Days of Holiday Horses Campaign! The focus of this campaign is to share fun tidbits about one of our hard-working horses each day, so our friends can get to know them, and consider donating to support their care for the coming year.

We kick off the campaign with Magic, because he brings the magic of the holiday season to everyone at the barn. Known as the “gentle giant” of the herd, this half Standardbred and half Friesian loves working with our participants and changing lives at Dream Riders!

Taking the time to celebrate some small victories the past couple of weeks in classes! Logan and Trevor have come so far and continue to amaze us. They both have been working on coming off the lead and riding independently with no leader for quite some time. Riding independently can be a very intimidating task, but we are so proud of how brave and trusting of their horses they have been. Join us in cheering on Logan and Trevor!
