We are so proud of Team SkyRyder and Dr. Hooks son Radar for all their accomplishments at the Prescott AKC show.

Both Daeni & Kenny received all their majors in one weekend. Mr. Radar started working towards his Grand with a lovely Breed win!

Not to be outshined by the boys Daeni had multiple Best opposite wins over nice specials, and received a lovely OH group 1, and a well deserved OH Reserve Best In Show 🍾

We are so beyond proud of what our Gilly kids have been accomplishing theses past few months in the show ring. As well as a huge thank you to all the owners who are out there representing our kennel and breeding program. You guys play a major role in our success, and we love all the memories we’re making along the way. 💕

Thank you to ASC of Utah for hosting such wonderful shows and having me judge Puppy Sweeps & Veteran Sweeps! Was such a fun assignment to be apart of with lots of beautiful dogs!

Sansa also had a great weekend at the ASCU shows! She picked a lovely Best of Breed with Clarissa Lawson Shank under Breeder Judge Michael McGuire. As well as Best of Breed under Senior Breeder Judge Kristina Churchill, & two Best Opposites under Senior Breeder Judges Ronnie Bates & Deb Burchett Gower. Thank you to all the judges who recognized our Spicy Salsa this weekend 💕

We would love to congratulate Clair Thomas and her boy SkyRyder Sultan of Swing “Kenny” on all they have accomplished. Kenny is out of our Gilly x Beckham litter and has already started his career in the Breed ring.

This is something everyone should see.
When you get your 8/10 week old puppies, please keep this image in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.
When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.
But when you're letting puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.
You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.
Once grown you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.

HOW MUCH FOR A PUPPY?

Let me say a few words to you, the person who writes an email to simply ask the price. The person who also calls and surprisedly states: “I can buy a cheaper dog elsewhere”. I also address you; the person who just wants “a pet”.

Not a single dog is just a dog.

Behind every pure bred dog is a BREEDER. I’m using capital letters to differentiate a breeder from a pet factory, the I have puppies available all year type of people. When you select to buy a dog from a breeder, this breeder is responsible for the health of every dog; owned and also sold. This breeder will skip holidays, sleeping, laying in bed and most of their own house space as this will be turned into space for their dogs. The truly passionate breeder who loves what they breed, puts their whole heart into it. Not only in puppies that are sold but also in those who get sick and die.

A breeder will get their hands dirty, often covered in placentas and mud. Because that’s what life is about: birth and death.

In the middle of birth and death is life. The wheel that keeps turning. A breeder will do progesterone tests, echos, xrays, analysis, c sections, vaccinations, research pedigrees, deworm, as well as chipping their puppies and getting them evaluated by specialists.

Last but by no means least, a breeder CHOOSES the family lucky enough to have one of their puppies. Yes, you read that right. A true breeder chooses who they sell to.

Because it is not “just a dog”.

I HOPE YOU REALIZE THAT IT IS NOT THE NEW OWNER THAT GETS A CHAMPION. It is the New Owner that gets the ribbons and the Breeder that makes the Champion. If you are a Breeder you already have the litter in your plans. If you are the New Owner, it is your job to reflect the soul of the breeder, stay upright in the ring, and appreciate that there are others equally worthy in the ring with you; and enjoy the moment.

Australian Shepherd Nationals 2019: We had the best time at national Dock Diving. Rooster had a blast and did a great job. He thinks it’s great to retrieve the bumper drop it at the ramp and have a human fish it out for him. We’ve worked hard on him bringing it all the way up the ramp and he did each time!
