Dogtora Zue Webster - Veterinaria

Dogtora Zue Webster - Veterinaria Relief Veterinarian, Puerto Rican, Natural Hair, Travel fanatic, LGBTQ ally. *DISCLAIMER* I WON'T GIVE OUT CONSULTS, DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT ETC.

It is irresponsible and illegal for me to do so for an animal that I haven't seen! If you are worried about your animal's health TAKE THEM TO A LICENSED VETERINARIAN* That being said...
Life is pretty awesome, and although I am a vet, there are other things in my life I am passionate about too! So besides vet med, you will also see info here about my Puerto Rico, natural hair, travelling adventure

s, vet school, etc. Before each post I will put what it is about! My purpose is NOT to change people's mind, or criticize those who have different opinions. My purpose is to share what I have learned and my opinions. If you happen to read something I wrote and it helps you, or makes you a better, more accepting human being, that is just an amazing plus! Live, Love, Laugh- Zue

*AVISO* NO VOY A DAR CONSULTAS, DIAGNÓSTICOS O TRATAMIENTOS.

And on another sunny day in the (swing) state of Arizona, today on my favorite day of the year🎃 I went out to vote.
I could go on the many reasons for why I voted the way I did, but instead, I'll say that I voted for what my conscience says is right.
✅️I voted for public education, which is the reason I'm at where I'm at.
✅️I voted because love is love 🏳️‍🌈
✅️I voted because everyone decisions over their bodies (including pregnant bodies) are theirs and not the government.
🇵🇷And I voted bc in my Island of Enchantment, there are 3.5 million 2nd class US citizens that can not vote.
So... did you voté already?

Yesterday I was invited by the University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine LatinX, Shelter Med and Street Medicine Clubs to talk about my experience as a Latina Veterinarian in shelter, HQHV settings and providing care to underserved communities. We also practice medical Spanish, and let me tell you! These students were so good; they were making full sentences in Spanish!
If you can't tell by my face, I was very excited to talk about these topics!
Only 5% of all US Veterinarians are Latinx.
There are 63 million Latinx people in the US.
Many of them own pets.
So I'll do everything I can to provide care to mi gente, their pets, and teach as much as I can to others so they can do the same❤️🇵🇷
¡Gracias por la invitación! ¡Que se repita!

People think being bilingual is this graceful ability.
Well... Back when I was studying, the above is how I described a process in Clin Path. Bonus points to whoever can guess WTF I'm talking about here🤣

Today is National Latina Day! A day to recognize all the badass Latinas - those we know and those who have paved the way for us to be here.
Here's to more women who look and sound like me making money, getting those jobs and degrees, and taking the space we have EARNED!
Oftentimes, we are doing so in 2 languages and with an accent!! Being bilingual is one of the things I'm most proud of!

How we started vs. how it's going.
These last few weeks have been some of the most intense I've had in surgery. Between the amount and complexity of cases, it has been challenging... and frustrating🤦🏾‍♀️. I've read books and websites, asked for 2nd opinions, and even trained others🙌🏾.
But then I remember that to make it here, it took me over 10 yrs and y'all... I feel a little (a lot, jaja) grateful.
This is your reminder that SI SE PUEDE! Is hard and takes time and effort... but Remember where you started and look at where you are at❤️

6 years ago Today, I put on a Doctoral gown and walked the staged to be given the title of DVM.👩🏽‍⚕️
I've shared before my journey in vet med before; but if you didn't know👇
I wanted to become a vet since I was a teen. I did my undergrad at and worked as a vet tech throughout those 4 years. I am a first Gen college grad, so I had to learn to navigate the college system on my own.🥸
I took the GRE and applied to vet schools... Got a super low score and was rejected from every school.💀
After working as a tech for 10 years, I reapplied, and off I went to 🇬🇩
I did my clinical year at University University of Tennessee 🧡
Finally, I graduated in my 30s and now work as a relief vet.
My passion in vetmed lies in shelter medicine, surgery, and providing affordable care for pets. Lately, I've been teaching and really enjoy seeing that 🤩 moment when they just get it right!
If I can tell someone about having an "unconventional" path is👉🏽if you want it, then GO FOR IT. Time will pass anyway. It is up to you if you'll be left with regret of not doing the thing OR pride bc you went for it!❤️

A little Throwback!
6 yrs ago, I walked through the hallways of the Vet Hospital as a student for the last time👉🏽 and left as a doctor.
A year prior, I had packed my life once again to leave my island home and moved to the South; to Knoxville, TN, to finish my clinical year at UT. I could not have made a better clinical school choice!
Thank you to my professors at for giving me the foundation I needed to survive clinics.
Thank you to every assistant, tech, and doctor at UT for being AMAZING professionals and human beings. During and after hurricane Maria, I felt nothing but support from everybody who knew I was Puerto Rican. There were people who didn't know my name but still asked me about home.
Thank you to every client and patient for trusting my medical knowledge.
Thank you to every random person I met. You proved wrong all the BS people talk about the South, bc I felt nothing but welcomed here.
And Thank you to my 2nd class, who have been doctoring for a month now! While it was extremely hard to start from scratch on my 4th year, y'all always made me feel welcomed. Never once was I an "island kid".
So, while moving here was overwhelming, I can now say I am not only an but I can also say Rocky Top turned a part of me into .
GRACIAS! Dra. Zue Webster Alvarez - Veterinarian.

Of all the decisions I've made; walking into West Shelter on a 4th of July weekend years ago and taking you home was one of my favorites. Who would have imagined a waived adoption fee would teach me SO MUCH?
🏃🏽‍♀️We started running together
🥾We hiked together
⚠️I've learned so much about reactive dogs from you.
Life looks different these days... but whatever happens, I'm glad you picked me.

❤️If you are in a position to bring a new pet home, Please consider adopting from a shelter or rescue.❤️🐾 You might find your very best friend there.
Do you have a rescued pet? Tell me about them!

🏃🏽‍♀️Empezamos a correr juntos
🥾Hicimos hiking juntos
⚠️Y me has enseñado tanto sobre perros reactivos.

Happy World Veterinary Day🐾
I could spend hours typing everything that I love and dislike about being in this field.
How some days is all smiles and tail wags and purrs.
Many others are filled with doubts, tears, and frustration from complex cases and procedures and people.
But in the end... I continue to choose vet med every day...
So here's some of the many faces of vet med- from cuddles, to eating on the fly, to that feeling of accomplishment when I got my White Coat and graduated Vet School to WAY back as a shelter vet tech.

The 2 statuses on the right were posted by me 14 yrs ago... and I remembered EXACTLY why I posted them.
I had just gotten the last rejection email from the 5th and last vet school that I had applied to. Holy s #!+ did that sucked. I sat on the sidewalk in front of my mom's house in Puerto Rico, wondering WTF was I supposed to do now.
If only that Zue from 14 yrs ago would have known that she DID eventually got into vet school, AND survived it AND found great people along the way. And then went on to find a great career as a veterinarian. And that her struggles of having been a Latina, a 1st Gen and a Boricua are now tools she can use to help others.❤️
And that now there is a whole other new world of adventures waiting for her. Almost 6 yrs as a doctor and still amazed I fu**in did it❤👩🏽‍⚕️🇵🇷So whatever you set your mind to, just know that although people on the internet make it seem like they got it figured out... most of us don't. We, in fact, struggled A LOT

Happy International Day of Women in Tech & Science!
I feel so Proud to be in that group of less than 10% of Latinas who hold a doctorate degree. It wasn't easy... but it was ABSOLUTELY worth it. Here's to many more women who look and sound like me achieving their goals and holding positions of leadership and change👩🏽‍⚕️💪🏽
May we be them, may we help them and may we inspire others to show up❤️

Congrats to all the newly coated future vets at . Facebook gave me some reminders as well, and now I'm all emotional here😭 Share with me something about your White Coat Ceremony in the comments 😍Id love to know how yours was- which vet school and even😱😱year if you dare!
And if you are not there..yet... Keep going! You CAN do it!💪🏽🧠

Ahora ando toda sentimental 😭

This was the caption I shared with the 2nd pic😍
had so many wonderful memories that I just can't help but be happy and freaking of how far I've come. The 1st pic has my fb post from 2 years ago, when I got accepted to . Then, a year later, I was in term 2 studying for Immuno. I got my and my Id. My 1st term I was part of a vaccine clinic with club, AWB, and PAPSA. Today, I improved my suturing skills and got what is probably one of the last name tags that will say DVM student! Oh.. and I took my cat bag to school bc really, what's the point of being a vet student if I can't wear cat stuff! Vamo' allá!!!
