Many of you have heard me talk about Ewok and Donut over the years, two of my dogs that didn’t come to the clinic as often as Wren.

We inherited Ewok when my aunt and uncle moved to assisted living. She was the “fun police,” telling the other dogs to settle down and stop that noisy nonsense. About 10 days ago, she woke us up around 3am having a seizure that she never really came out of. She proceeded to have several more seizures throughout the day and became progressively less responsive. Suspecting a brain tumor, we took her to AVECC Peoria where their fantastic team of technicians and veterinarians worked with my family to help Ewok pass over the rainbow bridge painlessly and without fear.

A week later, it was clear our Labradoodle, Donut, was also ready to move on. He had survived cancer and chemotherapy and had developed a neurological condition making it hard for him to walk. At an opinionated 80 pounds, we weren’t even able to get him in the car any longer. We called All About Restful Pets to come to our house and they were phenomenal. Bonnie, the owner, is one of the nicest people I have talked to, and Dr. Falcone was amazing in her care of Donut in his final moments.

Lasting Paws is the service we at Amigo use for pet memorials and cremation services. They take a difficult, grief-filled time and approach it with the most compassion and sensitivity imaginable, treating each and every pet and owner with the utmost respect and dignity.

I write this for a few simple reasons. First and foremost is to remind everyone that we get it. We also have hard decisions to make with our pets and come to those discussions with you filled with empathy and caring. We truly only want the best for your pets, just as if they were our own.

Second, I want to shout out our amazing partners in caring that we have been blessed to work with. I am beyond grateful for the care Ewok and Donut received in the last week and a half when it was clear they had gone beyond the limits of what modern medicine could help.

So thank you to AVECC, All About Restful Pets, and Lasting Paws, as well as those specialists who helped them over the years: Dr. Hershey at Integrative Veterinary Oncology, Dr. Monarski at VCA ARECA, Doctors Boshoven and Beaver at Arizona Veterinary Oncology, and Dr. Soderstrom at Soderstrom Veterinary Surgery. Veterinary medicine is a team sport, and we are lucky to have such great teammates.

It's that time of year again, where the treats are tempting, the costumes are charming, and the fun is spooky!

Here are a few tips for keeping your furry friends safe this Halloween:

1. Keep the Treats for Humans Only: Chocolate & candy, especially sugar-free treats with xylitol, can be dangerous for pets. Stick to pet friendly goodies for our four-legged trick-or-treaters.

2. Watch the Decorations: Curious noses and paws can sometimes get into trouble around candles, cords, and decorations. Keep these out of reach to prevent any frightful accidents!

3. Costumes are Optional: If your pet loves dressing up, make sure their costume is comfortable, safe, and cute! And if costumes aren't their thing, a cute collar or bandana is just as festive! (Share your pictures with us online!)

If you need us during this claw-some season, we're here for you and your pets!

We will be open our normal hours on Halloween, October 31, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 12:00PM

Have a fun, safe, and fang-tastic Halloween!

Hey Amigos!

🎃October is the Purr-fect month to adopt a new little spooky friend.

Check out these two ghostly guys in their boo-tiful bandanas. 👻

Cobweb is a 1 year old fun loving boy. He is super cuddly and loves to lay in your lap to give kisses and love. Cobweb wants to be a vampire and go Trick or Treating with his new family. 🧛

Beau is a witchy orange 2 year old man. He loves to roam around the clinic on his broomstick, but would love to roam into your arms. ✨

Both boys are fully vaccinated and neutered, but Beau is on a prescription urinary diet to stay in tip top shape! 🐱

☀️Hey Amigos! It's almost September, what better way to celebrate a new month than bringing home a new furry friend. Wilma, Beau and Cobweb are looking for a fur-ever home.

Wilma is a adorable 6-7 week old female kitten that was found on the street and brought into our clinic by Dr. Miller. She has been dewormed, but has not started vaccines yet. Wilma will have her vaccinations soon for her new home. She's the perfect pocket sized friend. 😻

Beau is a handsome orange 2 year old man. He loves to roam around the front lobby and have pets by our clients, but would love a home to play in. He is neutered and fully vaccinated, but does need to remain on his prescription urinary diet to stay in tip top shape.😼

Cobweb is a 10 month old fun loving boy. He is super cuddly and loves to lay in your lap to get hugs and love. Cobweb's wish for his birthday is to have cake in his new home. 🎂
