Poppy – Staffordshire Terrier mix – female – DOB 4/20/24

Meet our little sweetie, Poppy! Poppy’s mom was a stray in South Phoenix that a good samaritan took in off the streets. Once she had her puppies (all 11 of them), the woman felt overwhelmed and didn’t want to keep them outside as it got hotter. She asked us for help and help we did! We took the puppies and brought them to our Director’s house (where all of our puppies stay). We also spayed their mom so that this would not happen again.

Poppy is the smallest of the litter and she’s our little prankster! She’s always looking for adventure and thinks everything is a game. She loves water and will get in the baby pool any chance she gets. Poppy uses a doggie-door like a champ. She’s smart, cuddly, and ready for a home and family to call her own! Could that be yours? Joey came to us back in April and was very timid and scared. But that sure has changed! Now Joey makes us laugh every day with his silly antics and excitement. At one year old, he’s very much a playful puppy who loves other dogs and human-attention. He’s a very happy guy just waiting for his happy-ever-after. ✨

There’s no better way to celebrate Labor Day than to share last week’s hard work and announce that these six Stealing Hearts dogs have officially been adopted! ❤️ Congratulations to Wonka (who is our longest resident and has been adopted by his foster mom), Zuri, Walton, Maddox, Stewart, and Malone! Can you believe this gorgeous pup hasn’t found a home yet?! 🏠💛 This is Malone. He is a three month old mixed breed boy who comes from our little Mama Jetta. While we don’t know what or how many breeds are mixed in there, we do know he’s one of the cutest and most unique puppies we’ve seen. He’s also super sweet and social. The fact that Rose is still waiting for a forever home is all the proof of Black Dog Syndrome that we need. 🖤 For those who aren’t aware, Black Dog Syndrome is “a phenomenon in pet adoption in which black dogs are ignored in favor of light-colored ones”. Rose and her three sisters are four month old, black pit mixes…and all are still waiting to be adopted.

Rose is outgoing, attentive, affectionate, and smart. She loves to splash around in the baby pool and gets along perfectly with all of the other dogs and puppies. Rose is a gem of a girl and is ready for her happily-ever-after! 🌹

An adorable smile from SHR newbie, Brook. 👋🏼 Brook was born into a hoarding case and was taken from poor living conditions to a county shelter which is where we found her. She is happy, playful, and sweet, but still a bit untrusting of humans. We can see that she wants to be affectionate, but she still needs some time to open up. We’re happy to give her time to do just that - either at our shelter or in her forever home. Keep an eye on Brook because we know she’s going to absolutely shine!

Rondo – Labrador/Staffordshire Terrier mix – 2yrs – male (49lbs)

Meet our little cutie, Rondo! This boy was confiscated from an awful hoarding situation with 40 other dogs and taken to a county shelter. Because he was shy, Rondo received no interest at that shelter and we were asked to take him so he’d have a better chance at a forever home. We happily rescued him and brought him to our shelter where he has more space and time to thrive.

Since he’s been with us, Rondo is learning to trust. It’s a slow process, but he’s doing really well. It’s obvious that he wants human interaction, but is still unsure of people. He’ll sneak up behind you and give you a kiss, but is still a bit nervous about being receiving love. Rondo is very good with other dogs, (of course) and is learning that people can be awesome too! Rondo loves to go for walks and is pretty good on a leash. He doesn’t have accidents in his kennel so he may be housebroken. It’s so much fun to watch him relax and act silly, it’s truly heartwarming. We believe that with kindness and patience, Rondo is going to blossom into an amazing dog who is loyal, loving, and so very grateful. He’s looking for a home with another dog and a patient family who will give him time to trust. Lucy – Staffordshire Terrier mix – 2yrs – female (60lbs)

Meet our adorable girl, Lucy! This perfect pittie was dumped right in front of the county shelter…her owners just left her there and drove away. 💔 She was taken in where she sat waiting for several months until we saw her and just couldn’t leave her behind. We brought her to safety with our rescue and are so happy we did!

Now that Lucy is part of the SHR family, we’re learning so much about her. Lucy loves to go for walks and is very good on a leash. She’s also great with other dogs. She’s not super rough when she plays, she’d rather be chased and will try to entice her play-buddy to do just that! Lucy is also a “Sun Goddess” and will spend as much time as possible just bathing in the sun with her belly in the air. She loves tummy rubs and will drop right in front of you as a hint. Lucy is happy, polite, and has so much love to give. She is athletic, but not hyper - a nice walk will satisfy her. She doesn’t have accidents in her kennel area so we believe she is likely housebroken. Our girl is looking for her forever person or family, one that will take her for car rides and actually bring her back! That’s not a very big request; Lucy just wants to be loved and cared for for the rest of her life. Complete our application to get the chance to make adorable Lucy part of your family.

Brook – Labrador (maybe pit) mix – 3yrs – female (56lbs)

Introducing our beautiful girl, Brook. This sweet girl was confiscated from a horrible hoarding situation. She was one of 40 dogs living on a property in bad conditions. She was taken to a county shelter where she then sat for seven long months before we rescued and took her away from there!

Brook is settling in really well at our shelter and is loving her own space and playtime with friends. She is a bit timid when she first meets people and, so far, has been more comfortable with other dogs which makes total sense considering her life up until now. Luckily, Brook is very sweet and happy and we can tell that she truly wants to trust humans. She plays very well with the other dogs and will thrive with a canine companion in her forever home. Brook also loves to go for walks and is easy on a leash. Loud noises tend to spook her at times, but not enough for her to want to stop walking. Because she has spent more time around dogs than people, Brook will need a home with at least one other dog and a person or family that will be patient with her until she’s comfortable. We have seen many dogs just like Brook who blossom into amazing companions and it’s the best thing to witness! Cal – Labrador mix – 2yrs – male (48lbs)

Please welcome our handsome boy, Cal! This sweet boy was actually dumped over the fence of a county shelter and left alone in their play-yard. It must’ve been so scary for him! He was taken into that shelter which is where we spotted him. Luckily, Cal is no worse off from the experience and he loves everyone he meets!

Cal is happy, outgoing, and fun to be around. He is good with other dogs and has a number of play buddies at our shelter. He loves to go for walks. He does need some leash training, but corrects very easily and gets back on track. He acts very much like a puppy; he’s silly, goofy, and full of energy. We also think he’s housebroken because he doesn’t have accidents in his kennel area. He would make a great hiking, walking, or even camping buddy; he’s active, but not hyper. Cal is looking for his forever family, one he can give all his love to unconditionally and who will love him right back! Lorna – Staffordshire Terrier mix – 3yrs – female (63lbs)

Say hello to our shelter sweetie, Lorna! This girl was owned by someone on a reservation where she was running loose. Her owner actually took her miles from his home and dumped her several times, but she kept coming back. The poor girl just wanted someone to love her. After she showed up at the house again, her owner called Animal Control and surrendered her to them. Lorna was taken to a crowded county shelter where we spotted her, took one look at her adorable face, and snatched her up!

Now that Lorna’s with us, we have fallen completely in love with her! She’s happy, loving, and enjoys attention from anyone and everyone. She is very good on a leash and loves to go for long walks, we’re sure she’d do well on hikes as well. She doesn’t have accidents in her kennel so we believe she’s housebroken. Lorna has a few play buddies at our shelter and has a great time romping around with them. She tends to make some noise while she plays which can kind of crazy when you first hear it. 😂 Lorna is a happy girl and is so much fun to have around.
