Mesa - Priscilla Barerra joined us in Oct. 2021, is an integral part of our team, bringing a unique blend of compassion, precision, & fun to everything she does. Her attention to detail, willingness to lend a hand, & her kind, approachable nature is amazing. She’s the type of person who quietly makes everything around her better. She never hesitates to step up when there's a need. Her ability to foster connection & build camaraderie is just one of the many ways she strengthens. Her special interest & experience in exotic animal care have made her an invaluable resource. She’s always willing to share her knowledge, offer support, & ensure both patients & team members feel genuinely cared for. We are grateful for Priscilla’s dedication, team spirit, & the light she brings to our clinic every single day. She truly embodies what it means to be compassionate, hardworking, & team-focused.

Chandler - Katie Carrington has been with us since Nov. 2020. She embodies all of 1st Pet's Core Values. She constantly goes above & beyond for our clients & their pets. Her compassion & care touches clients in such a positive way that always leaves a lasting impression. Not only is she wonderful to our clients but she is an outstanding team player. She is always willing to lend a hand, keeps a fun-lighthearted attitude when it gets busy, helps take on extra tasks & even some times will tune in to her bird expertise when we get unique calls about injured birds. Katie, you are an essential part of the 1st Pet Family. Thank you for all you do! Congratulations!

North Valley - Ryan Schock joined our team at the end of June as an Emergency Technician, & in just a few short months, he has truly immersed himself in our culture, especially the spirit of employee ownership. He continues to thrive & grow in his role, consistently demonstrating a strong work ethic & eagerness to learn. He has been a huge help recently with IT. His willingness to contribute beyond his primary role exemplify the kind of teamwork & ownership we value so deeply. His support has not gone unnoticed, & it’s a great example of cross-team collaboration that strengthens our entire organization.
Thank you Ryan

Who doesn’t love a happy ending? 💛

This is Clowdy. She came to us with a painful nose and a swollen eye. A kind woman had been caring for her as part of a stray colony… for four whole years.

What she didn’t know was that Clowdy already had a family who had been missing her since 2019.

Thanks to her microchip and some compassionate teamwork, we were able to reconnect her with her original owner. Once Clowdy is healed and feeling her best, she’ll finally be going home.

📍From 1st Pet to the national stage!
Seven of our team members just returned from the GGOB (Great Game of Business) National Conference—where they connected with other employee-owned businesses and shared ideas to help us grow stronger together.

Why does that matter to you?
Because when we grow as a team, your pets benefit.
More collaboration.
More accountability.
More heart in everything we do. 💙

We’re proud to be 100% employee-owned—and always learning.

Meet Keke 🐾
She had a panic attack on Monday just as she was arriving at the hospital. In her fear, she slipped out of her collar and bolted. Her mom did everything she could to call her back, but Keke ran across 6 lanes of busy traffic on Southern Avenue and, miraculously, made it safely across.

She ended up in a large subdivision and was thankfully caught when she became exhausted. We are so grateful for the three team members and several kind strangers who helped her mom find her and bring her back to 1st Pet.

When she returned, Keke was suffering from heat exhaustion and was in critical condition. Thanks to the quick action of our teams at 1st Pet Mesa and Chandler, she survived and is doing so much better today.

She is now home with her wonderful pet parents, who shared this beautiful note:
“Words are inadequate to express our utmost gratitude to the team and most of all the ones who caught her; otherwise the outcome would have been a tragedy. Thank you!”

Today, we honor not only the brave men and women of 9/11, but also the four-legged heroes who worked tirelessly beside them. From search-and-rescue dogs who combed through the rubble to therapy dogs who brought comfort in the darkest hours—our K9 companions showed courage, loyalty, and unconditional love when the world needed it most.

Remembering Bretagne, the golden retriever who worked long days at Ground Zero and later visited schools and survivors to bring healing. She was the last surviving 9/11 rescue dog, crossing the rainbow bridge in 2016.

Remembering Salty, a guide dog, refused to leave his handler Omar Rivera’s side on 9/11. Together, they descended 70 flights from the North Tower, step by step. Despite the chaos around them, Salty’s loyalty never wavered—proving what true partnership looks like.

Remembering Roselle, the guide dog who safely led her blind handler down 78 flights of stairs, to therapy pups who gave kisses to weary rescue workers, these dogs reminded us that bravery isn’t just human.

Heroes don’t always wear capes… sometimes they wear collars.

What is your dog trying to say to you?

Kimber doesn’t need a reason to come to rehab—she just needs to ask! 💕 Her mom says she doesn’t have to keep finding ways to get hurt just to visit us.

Sadie has main character energy, and we are loving it! 🐩 If you have a dog with long or wiry hair, getting regular trims can keep its coat shiny and healthy. Don't forget to brush him or her often as well to prevent mats from forming.
