We’ve heard the saying, but we found out it’s TRUE! This dog-owner duo looks so alike, it’s hard to believe. From matching smiles to similar styles, this dog-owner pair is the perfect lookalike team. 💙🐾
While visiting a shelter in Abilene, TX, our Adoptions Manager Kerri met Ruffles, a dog placed on the urgent list for kennel stress. During their time together, Kerri noticed Ruffles had an incredible drive to play with balls – a trait that's actually perfect for search and rescue work.
On a hunch, Kerri contacted the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, an organization that trains shelter dogs to help find survivors during disasters.
The foundation immediately saw Ruffles' potential, and now this former shelter pup is training to save lives! Her new favorite game is finding hidden toys in barrels, which is actually teaching her the foundations of search and rescue work.
"Ruffles is such a fun dog and already a staff favorite!" shares Sylvia Stoney from the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation. After passing her evaluations with flying colors, Ruffles has officially been accepted as a disaster search canine candidate-in-training!
Sometimes the perfect second chance looks different than we imagine. For Ruffles, it was a life-saving career! 💫

When Minnie's dad was diagnosed with cancer, their world changed overnight. ❤️
During every step of his treatment, Minnie never left his side—staying next to his hospital bed for 36 straight hours. But as his health worsened, he made the most selfless choice—surrendering her to ensure she'd be cared for.
Through the Humane Society of Greater Niagara's boarding program funded by PetSmart Charities of Canada, Minnie stayed safe and cared for while her dad focused on his recovery. For 750 days, he carried her dog tags in his wallet and visited the shelter to see her from afar while he fought cancer. But this August, he finally received news of his cancer remission and went to bring Minnie home. 🏠
Now they're reunited, with a new home, a big backyard, and a love story that reminds us what the season of giving is truly all about.
We’re thrilled to introduce Sadie, our new Pawductivity Manager at PetSmart Charities! With her paws-on approach, Sadie will be making sure the team stays focused—especially during nap breaks and treat time.
