Picayune Blueberry Farm, Picayune, Mississippi
We started the farm in 1987 on one acre and fell in love with the berries. We have 55 acres now with a few sheep, cattle and 13 acres of blueberries and have planted some blackberries this year to see how they will do. We have opened the farm for people to come and pick their own berries and have a good time swapping stories. Our aim is to grow the best berries we can and provide an interesting and enjoyable experience for kids and adults.

The few elderberry bushes I have are now ripe. If you would like to pick some, I will have a free picking day next Saturday, July 16 from 9 till noon at Picayune Blueberry Farm. You know the berries, stems and leaves are a bit toxic but they make excellent syrups (proported to help with colds and flu) and jams once cooked. I would love to have some come out who have experience with using elderberries so I can learn from you how to use them. We only have a dozen bushes so we can use maybe 4 to 6 people to pick and get enough to use. They grow wild all over South MS. You can pick them off the roadways and in the woods. Call me to reserve a place. Peace, Jerry

Friday, June 10. The fields are alive with blue. Big blues all over the farm. Powder Blue is turning blue now and it is our latest bearing variety, a sure sign we have only a few weeks left in the season. Alapaha and Austin and several.others have a lot pf berries just now getting ripe. Alapaha has proven to be a favorite this year for it's sweet fkavor. Photo taken today. We had a refreshing rain this afternoon which was good timing for our bushes. Tomorrow's forecast is picking good. We will have a small crew in the fields to pick for those who don't have the time to pick their own. Hope to see you out here among the rows. Ripe black berries have become more plentiful today. Peace, jerry.

The blueberries are in prime time now. Premier, Austin, and Alapaha varieties are leading the show. We are loaded with ripe blueberries and more blackberries are coming on line as well. I have permission to post the photo taken today of a young man who fully enjoyed the blackberries while snacking along the picking row. He knows what he likes and dove (pun intended) right in. My kinda guy!! Maybe we all could use a bit more fun and adventure. Peace, jerry

Saturday? June 4. Sweet Alapaha Blueberry is in and have been picking it today among other varieties. We will rest tomorrow and get back at it Monday. It was hot today but tolerable so we picked a good many blueberries as "we pick" berries and put them in our cold room for those who need to avoid the heat. They are available today and tomorrow for $20 gallon. Call 601 799 7243 to place an order. Next week the fields will be loaded. Peace, jerry

Saturday, May 28. Wow! We had the biggest crowd this morning we have ever had. They really picked the blackberries and blueberries over. I just took this photo a minute ago. The berry bunch you see is of our Premier BB variety and this morning it was loaded with the big blue berries that you see a few of in the photo. This bush like all of the other blue and black berry bushes were thoroughly picked over this morning. Therefore, I strongly suggest you wait until next Saturday when all the red berries get ripe. I told many we will be open Monday and every day except Sunday till July 4. And there are great berries out there to pick, but it will take longer. We will stick to that schedule and keep posting about the field conditions. Enjoy your summer, Jerry

Blackberries! I love em but we don't have enough now but we're planting more. So let's put a limit of one gallon per family so we can all have some.
We picked out the ripe ones yesterday but more are getting ripe and we will start picking them again Monday and again next Saturday. If you them, please come early and please CALL FIRST, because I hate for you to come here from where ever and we don't have what you came for.
Bring the kids and get some memories, photos, and berries. Peace, Jerry

Yeah! No more rain for a while. We will be open tomorrow, Friday the 27th, Saturday and Monday for blackberries and blueberries and the rest of the week. Some days I will have to limit blackberries to one gallon so as many who want them will be able to get some. We will not have to limit blueberries. Come and show your kids our new lamb. We will be open for blueberries the remainder of the season every day fron 9 to 5 except Sunday. We will pick blackberries on those days we have enough to do so. I look forward to seeing many of you again this year. Please call before you come to make sure we have what you want.
Peace,
Jerry

Then we will be open for the rest of the season every day except Sumday. Please call before you come to make sure we have the berries you want. See you soon, Jerry

Saturday, July 3, 2021. LAST DAY OF THE SEASON. It is time to prepare for next season: pruning, planting, weeding, drainage, fertilizing and on and on. The season has been great for me. What a blessing to met so many people from all over with so many stories and smiles to share. Great seeing the family and friend groups and the children and the old and young having simple pleasure and experience, by, of all things, picking blueberries. Thank you for that.

We are open today with still many good flavorful and sweet Powder Blue blueberries. If not today, see you next year.

Friday, July 2, 2021. Tomorrow is the last day of the season and we still have wonderful berries. The photo below was taken a few minutes ago and I was amazed at these berries. Powder Blue. Had to take a picture. This an unusually dense bunch of berries. Yum.
Come today or tomorrow if you can.
SATURDAY IS THE LAST DAY. Thanks to all who have come and made it a heat season for us. Jerry

Thursday, July 1, 2021. Saturday will be the last day of the season for us. We still have good berries (see photo taken today in our cold room) but we need to get on with our pruning and preparations for new plantings for next season. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many people this season and sharing stories and seeing the kids and children and family groups having an outing and taking home berries that are we are proud to have represent our farm.
SATURDAY IS OUR LAST DAY
There may be some rain in these last two days, so if you come for one last pick, please call first.
May your days be full of peace, jerry

Thursday, June 24, 7:21am. Good morning! It rained last night and it is wet here but from the looks of radar and the forecast, it will run off and dry up a bit today. Powder Blue is wonderful. I took these photos at 7:15am, both from the same bush. The picking is easy and very plentiful and the berries are Powder Blue good. We will be open through Saturday this week and probably into next week. But please, if you are thinking of coming out here, give me a call before to be sure (601 799 7243). Be safe, eat well and add blueberries to everything. :)

Tuesday, June 22/2021 2:34pm. Not raining here and only a sprinkle all day. Rest of week may be similar, only God knows. Powder Blue is now prime and Austin is fully ripe and flavorful, firm and a bit crunchy. Certainly one of my favs, maybe #1 for me. I just now (OK 20 minutes ago) took the photo below. In his R hand is Powder Blue and in his left is Austin.
Premier is done: some good berries left, but some are fermenting on the bush.
So how long to go? Maybe end of this week or mid next week or? I will keep posting as I get a better idea. I appreciate all who have come and laughed with us and enjoyed the outing and picked up good berries. Peace, Jerry

Saturday, June 19, 2021 It is wet and wetter out here and raining! The berries are soaked, the bushes are soaked, the ground is soaked and the middles have standing water. So we will shut up the farm today and let the fields drain and dry off tomorrow, Sunday, and give it a go Monday. Enjoy your weekend. Peace, Jerry
