Happy Tails Haven Horse Rescue and Sanctuary

Happy Tails Haven Horse Rescue and Sanctuary We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home equines from a variety of situations. About Us: CoDreLea Farm started out as a horse breeding facility in 1996.
(15)

After a few years of this, we came to realize that there were “too many horses”and many were unwanted and in need of homes or in danger of being killed. Later we came to realize the same was true for unwanted dogs and cats. So about 15 years ago, we started privately rescuing dogs, cats and the occasional horse. Many of the horses that remain here are part of the original breeding stock or a fe

w or their offspring. We began to advocate against indiscriminate breeding of horses, and for the spaying and neutering of pets. We have also been advocates for experiential learning with horses and other animals. Klara has been a certified member of EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning) organization in the past. EAGALA is a methology for doing Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. CoDreLea Farm has contracted with mental health professionals to provide this service in the past. Animals, horses in particular, are great teachers utilizing metaphorical learning. In other words, our animals are very good at reflecting back to us what we need to learn. In April 2014, we incorporated Happy Tails Haven as a nonprofit corporation in South Dakota. In December 2014, we attained 501c3 nonprofit status. We now strive to make the lives of animals (horses in particular) better and to foster the animal-human bond.

Yesterday, was reading at the barn. We started out with a round of pin the tail on the 🐎. Afterwards, we headed out to the horses. Kit Kat particularly enjoyed being read to this week. Aarin enjoyed socializing. It was about 95 degrees so before ending our session we all enjoyed a popsicle. We finished up before some storms rolled into the area.

The horse books we purchased came in and the children gravitated towards those. Maybe that is why Kit kat was so interested this week. Subject matter he relates to. Lol

I’m sure you’ve noticed we use mile markers to describe locations, and not everyone is familiar with where those mile markers are. Did you know you can get an app for your phone for that will show you where these mile markers are located? All you have to do is search for a mile marker app and choose what one works for you.

This can be helpful if you are ever in a situation where you need assistance and need to know what mile marker you are at. You are also able to search mile markers and it will show you where in the state it is located. This is a helpful tool for anybody!

This evening we kicked off our Reading at the Barn summer program in conjunction with United Way's Race to Read Challenge. The kids made book marks to begin, and then Sherry Garner read them a horse themed Dr. Seus book. Afterward they visited the rescue horses and began reading to some of them. Each child received a reading log to track which books they read. As you can see, the horses were quite interested. If you missed the kickoff, don't worry. You can join us next Monday at 6 pm. The program runs every Monday evening from 6 to 7 pm through July 22nd. Thanks to everyone who came! We sure enjoyed having you here!!

We want to thank the youth group from the Rapid Valley Ward of the Church of Latter Day Saints for all their hard work on this very hot Saturday! All the horses, donkey and goats are so happy to have clean pens! You were a blessing for us, and we so appreciate it!❤️🐴Notice that we had a couple if sweet puppies join in the photo. They loved interacting with the kids!
