Happy Tails Haven Horse Rescue and Sanctuary

We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home equines from a variety of situations. About Us: CoDreLea Farm started out as a horse breeding facility in 1996.

After a few years of this, we came to realize that there were “too many horses”and many were unwanted and in need of homes or in danger of being killed. Later we came to realize the same was true for unwanted dogs and cats. So about 15 years ago, we started privately rescuing dogs, cats and the occasional horse. Many of the horses that remain here are part of the original breeding stock or a fe

w or their offspring. We began to advocate against indiscriminate breeding of horses, and for the spaying and neutering of pets. We have also been advocates for experiential learning with horses and other animals. Klara has been a certified member of EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning) organization in the past. EAGALA is a methology for doing Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. CoDreLea Farm has contracted with mental health professionals to provide this service in the past. Animals, horses in particular, are great teachers utilizing metaphorical learning. In other words, our animals are very good at reflecting back to us what we need to learn. In April 2014, we incorporated Happy Tails Haven as a nonprofit corporation in South Dakota. In December 2014, we attained 501c3 nonprofit status. We now strive to make the lives of animals (horses in particular) better and to foster the animal-human bond.

Klara was at Fleet Farm today to get some Square Meal Biscuits Senior. She found that they have their Sprout brand grains on sale this weekend. Their Senior grain is on sale for $19.99 and their Texturized pellets for $8.99. This is a nice savings. Anyone needing grain should check l it out, and note we would love some donations of this if you are so inclined! Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: Thanks to your generosity, we have about half of Scooters vet bill covered! We are so grateful to the supporters who have donated! You are amazing! ❤️ If anyone else can help out, we would appreciate it! No amount is too small!! Thank you!!🐴

This sweet boy is Scooter. He is an 11 year old gelding who has been in a long term foster home for the past 4 years. A couple of days ago he sustained a significant injury. This wound is big and deep. We believe he impaled himself on something. We are very lucky he did not puncture a lung. It was close. The vet has cleaned it up and flushed it out. We are giving him antibiotics and pain meds and he has received a booster tetnus shot. He is moving fairly well and eating and drinking per usual. Today's vet bill was $670, and we could sure use some help with it. Follow up vet visit might be required during the estimated 8 weeks healing time. Please consider a donation to help. Thank you!❤️🐴

We have an updated wishlist today. Senior grain and protein blocks are a high priority right now. We have several elderly horses at the rescue and go through a bag a day of grain. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

What is on our minds today is hay!
Good morning friends. With the colder temperatues, the horses need to eat more hay to keep warm. And while we have 6 horses on special feed, no hay diets because of age and lack of teeth, the majority require lots of hay. They eat more when it is cold. We currently have a hay bill of $3200 and soon will need to have more. We need your help to get this hay bill paid so we can get more delivered by the end of next week. Please consider a donation to help us. We cannot do it without you! No amount is too small, and every dollar counts.

As we prepare to ring in the new year, we want to thank everyone who has supported us this year and reflect on our intakes this year. We welcomed Chili, Chief, Anni,Patti, Tess, Ruby (now called Rain by her new family), Ranger and Tiny Tim (now called Rocket by his new family). As we close on 2024, we wanted to take a moment to remember the ones that will remain in 2024, but will forever remain in our hearts. Earlier this year we lost sweet Mr. Mickey to severe colic. He is deeply missed by everyone. We know he is enjoying the green pastures of heaven. ♥️🐴
