Sooooo…..remember last January when Husband Dude retired and I came home to a demolished bathroom?
Well…..one year later and it is officially finished!
I am SO proud of the work he did! The drawing is of my family’s original homestead at the farm in Erick, Okla. He built all the woodwork and the vanity.
Yup. A bit of gushing over what a great job he did.

Well, Peeps, it looks like we’re about to finally get that Arctic air. If you haven’t prepped your coops, you need to get that done asap.
Some suggestions:
•Cover coops in plastic or paneling
•Provide a sturdy windbreak outdoors
•Pine shavings on the floor of the coop
•Move water inside coops to prevent freezing
•Add a heat source (I prefer a milkhouse heater with over heat/ fall over automatic shut-off. The heat bulbs can burst and cause a fire. Also, keep heat just above freezing so the birds don’t acclimate to warmer temps, but your water will remain thawed)
•Feed cracked corn to birds before bed to help them maintain body heat
•Add warm oatmeal to their morning routine to help maintain heat during the day
•Collect eggs multiple times during the day to prevent the eggs from freezing

All confirmations have been sent. Be sure to respond so I can keep you on the schedule. I’ve got a raccoon I’ve been trying to trap for 2 weeks. I keep finding an empty trap with the food missing. I finally solved the mystery. Well played, Rocky. Well played. (It is reaching in and dumping the food out of the tiny bowl so it can eat it off the ground)

Since spring, on our walks, we’ve been seeing baby deer. Now that they are older, the Moms are bringing them out into the world more. As far as we can tell, we have 2 Moms and 4 babies. They already have a daily routine of when they walk down the road. We SO MUCH love this time of year.

When Mom says I can’t bark at the neighbors playing baseball……

Wonderful Wednesday, Peeps!! Many of you will be gone for Labor Day weekend. PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY TODAY if you need to skip your regular delivery on Friday. This way I have a good count on what I will need. On the bright side, we finally caught the “Danger Noodle” that was slithering around in our garage. Little Rat Snake was safely released down at the pond.

All deliveries have been made. Looks like we have a few more days of this blistering heat, so take some advice from Ryker if you’re going to spend much time outside: spend it in a pool!!

Seriously…..NOT HELPING!!!! Clearly Ryker didn’t like my placement of the sprinkler. At least she put it where I planned to water next. 🤣🤣

Husband said “Get a hobby”

In 2006, I quit my job to become a full time, stay at home Mom. After our son graduated high school and moved out, and I was no longer keeping our granddaughter after school, I entered into the phase of “Empty Nest Syndrome”. Life was boring. I had no idea at the time how appropriate that term was.

Don’t get me wrong, living outside the metro, on a nice plot of land, there is plenty to keep me busy. However, there are only so many times you can clean house, do laundry, w**d the flower beds and garden, mow the property, clear brush, etc. I had too much “down time”.

A year later, my husband came home from work, sat me down, and said, in no uncertain terms “YOU NEED TO GET A HOBBY!!” I agreed. After some discussion, we decided that I would do well with chickens. A month later, I had my first little flock of 6 tiny chicks. We hand raised them in the house, spoiled them rotten, learned so many new things, and became completely enamored with these tiny little raptors. “You can never have too many chickens,” is a phrase I have heard throughout the years. I soon learned it was true. My flock quickly grew.

I decided that this little hobby of mine could be turned into a small business. I knew people were searching for healthy, free range eggs. If I could make enough to pay for the chicken feed, it would be well worth it.
