Happy Gotcha Day Boone! He’s been an amazing addition to our training program and has done well going to classes with me! It’s crazy to think all the things he’s done with me in a year from herding sheep, to going to stores, to teaching other dogs and just being the bestest boy he can be! We love Mr. Boone Dawg!!! 🐾❤️

LET’S TALK TOOLS

Red Arrow: Harness that fits around the dog’s body and when connected to a clip leash, creates a pulling reaction from the dog. This pulling reaction triggers the shoulders and chest muscles to be used which then influences the dog to use strength to get where they need to. If you have properly trained your dog to walk right next to you on a harness, you will not experience the pulling. Congratulations, I have yet to see this. 😂

Orange Arrow: Flat collar, usually used to connect a clip leash to and often times sits on the bottom of the neck due to gravity and the dog’s head being higher than the shoulders. This then triggers the dog’s shoulder muscles and the pulling starts. Again, this teaches the dog that strength needs to be used to get where they need to. If you have properly trained your dog to walk next to you on a flat collar, you will not experience the pulling. The majority of dogs I see are pulling during this setup.

Blue Arrow: Slip Leash is very high on the neck where it is placed behind the ears, behind the jaw bone, and it allows us to influence the dog’s head and brain. Shoulders and chest muscles are not triggered and physical strength is not used during the walk. When used correctly, little to no pressure is on the leash and physical strength is used by the dog to get from point A to point B. If you have properly trained your dog to walk next to you on a slip leash, you will not experience any pulling.

Out of the 3 tools shown, the slip leash is one of the most productive tools to create a structured walk, a calm mind, and a solid relationship.

Ever watch anyone walk a horse by the saddle?

Yeah, me either.

That’s because when you walk a 1000lb animal, you need to influence the brain and not the body.

Let’s start influencing our dog’s mentally and not physically.

Today we Graduated Quill! 🎓 He has done so well in his Basic Obedience Lessons! The improvement he has made over the course is amazing! He has picked everything up in stride and learned everything he was supposed to! 🥰 I’m super proud! Congratulations Quill!

We are proud to announce 2 more graduates from our beginner Obedience Program! Chisholm and Lorelei graduated with flying colors! They did an exceptional job and learned a lot in our program! Chisholm can now go feed the horses with his owner and wait by the corral for her until she is done feeding. Lorelei knows her basic commands and can now be obedient around her owner! These dogs were a pleasure to train and work with! I enjoyed every minute I spent with them! 🌻🐾💕

We have had some clients in the last few weeks that have brought their dogs to Tractor Supply with me for our lesson!

I love bringing the dogs to a public store because it teaches them so much! It is also good for the owner because it gives them the confidence to take them out more and see what they will be like when they do go to town. It can be an overwhelming experience to begin but they soon relax and enjoy the lesson!

Duke got to Graduate yesterday! He did amazing! He has been such a cool puppy to train over the last 8 weeks! I’m excited to have him back in my advanced Obedience Class and watch him progress as he moves into adulthood! 🐾

A couple pictures from our past week’s lesson- Quil is doing amazing with the obedience class but is still having some trouble with his recalls and stays when a new dog is around, Boone got to go to each lesson with me so we practiced the sit and down stay with the distraction of Boone healing around him and recalls when he had the opportunity to sniff and play with Boone! Both dogs did amazing! 🐾 We love to see progress in our clients dogs!
