Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County

Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County The Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County is dedicated to helping pets and people! An animal is admitted to our shelter in one of three ways.

Many concerned community members who bring us lost animals in hopes we can locate their owner. We partner with both the City of Warsaw and Kosciusko County Animal Care & Control, who has 24/7 access to our facility to drop off a lost animal in a secure location. Finally, many of our fellow pet lovers surrender their animal to our care because changed life circumstances no longer allow them to give

their pet the proper care. All animals that come into the care of the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County are immediately given a thorough assessment.
• Illness / Injury Assessment - We have the capacity to treat superficial illness and injury in-house. For more severe illness and injury, we partner with many local veterinarian offices. For our very young kitten and puppies, we have volunteer neo-natal caregivers who foster them until they are old enough or healthy enough to go up for adoption.
• Spay and Neuter Program: To control the county’s pet population, we spay or neuter every animal in need.
• Behavior Assessment: We do a behavior evaluation to determine how the animal is with people, dogs and cats.
• Vaccinations: We get them up to date on all necessary vaccines. This screening process can take anywhere from three days up to three months, depending on the condition of the animal when they arrive. For those animals who have existing issues we don’t have the facilities to address, we partner with specialized breed rescues or participate in an animal exchange with another rescue organization, so we can give the animal the best chance at finding a fur-ever home. While the animal is waiting to be adopted, our dedicated volunteers help care and socialize our animals by taking them on walks or runs or spending quality time with them in one of our cuddle rooms. We take the utmost care in ensuring our adoptable animals are fit with the right family. When a potential family arrives at the shelter, they meet their possible fur-kid in one of our cuddle rooms. In cases where another pet is already in the home, we encourage them to bring in that pet for a meet and greet as well. Finally, we offer a trial adoption period where a potential owner can host the animal for a short time to ensure the animal is a good fit for their home. We are proud to say that, because of this program, our animal return rate has decreased significantly.

Hi I'm Josie and I'm 3.5 years old! I am a sweet, laidback girl that likes to spend most of my time curled up on soft blankets and snoozing away. I get along well with other cats, and I would do best with older children because I don't like to be held very often and I will mostly seek you out for affection versus the other way around. Unfortunately, I was left outside the shelter door in a cat carrier so staff doesn't know much about my background. It's okay because now I am spayed and fully vetted and am looking for my new furever home!

Some quick facts about me:
Cat Friendly
Not Dog Friendly
Kid Friendly (older children would be best!)
Litter Box Trained
Sweet, calm, laidback girl
Intake Date: 03/28/2024
Reason: Abandoned outside of our shelter

Hi world! I'm Kiki and I'm 4 years old. I am a very sweet and loving girl that sometimes prefers affection on my own terms. While I am not the biggest fan of being held, I will seek you out for cuddles at times! I am a chirper and mostly do so when I welcome you home or when I am hungry (of course!). I am one that mostly keeps to myself, but I like to keep you in my sights at all times! I am friendly with other cats, and I did well in my last home with kids. I was surrendered due to no fault of my own, and I am looking for my new furever home!

Some quick facts about me:
Cat Friendly
Not Dog Friendly
Kid Friendly
Litter Box Trained
Sweet girl
Intake Date: 05/09/2024
Reason: Owner could no longer take care of

Hey there, I'm Gretchen! I'm a little over 3 years old, and I'm a very sweet girl! I came to the shelter when I was rescued from bad living conditions. Despite my rough start to life, I'm very friendly and I like meeting new people. I like to do things on my own terms, but if you give me time, I will warm up quickly. I get along well with other cats, and I would do well in a home with kids too! Come meet me and make me part of your family today!

Some quick facts about me:
Cat Friendly
Kid Friendly
Litter Box Trained
Sweet, social girl
Pattern: Calico
Intake Date: 03/28/2024
Reason: Removed from a neglectful situation

END OF SATURDAY UPDATE: Baby Girl, Oscar and Majesty have been adopted! The other three are still waiting for homes!

🐶🐶🐶 Who has puppy fever?? 🐶🐶🐶

These 6 puppies have been in a foster home with one of our staff since they were born! They are now 8 weeks old, born to a pitty/mix, Willow, and a bernedoodle (as we were told by Willow’s previous owners). We have mom here at the shelter; she was surrendered to us pregnant! I will attach a photo of Willow!

All 6 are up for adoption!! They are expected to be medium/large sized once they are full grown (based on their parents)!

Our puppy adoption fees are $180 and there is a $150 spay/neuter deposit on top of that. As long as the adopter makes all their puppy vaccine appointments and their spay/neuter date with us, that $150 deposit is REFUNDABLE!

👉🏼 Of course, puppies come with lots of responsibility! These guys will need help with training, potty training, socialization with other animals and strangers (which will be EASY at this age), etc! Please consider this with your family before coming out to adopt!

Come meet them! Our adoptions are first come first serve as long as the application is approved.

(All puppies are parvo negative, have had their first and second round of puppy vaccines, are dewormed, are microchipped, had their nails trimmed and are on flea/tick & heartworm preventative)

Mama Willow, who is only about a year old, will be ready for adoption soon! We will wait for her milk to dry up before we get her spayed 🐾 Adult dogs need homes too! And all of our adult dogs are only $50 for the month of June and then we will be running a special in July as well 👀

✨ DOGGY SPOTLIGHT ✨

You might have seen Kobe at the Farmers Market this weekend!! 👀 He went out for a slumber party for the weekend with one of our trusted volunteers!!

Here’s what she wrote about him:

“Thank you for letting me take Kobe for the weekend. He was such a gentleman. He is completely housetrained and so obedient (he won’t even get on furniture without permission)! He loved to explore the lake and even attempted to swim - he was a bit confused by the whole floating thing but he had a blast and was very encouraged by Hashbrown (another dog that also got a slumber party!) He loves other dogs and did good with most humans. He growled a little at my roommates but once he got used to them, he was fine. He even did zoomies and played with toys. A completely different dog!!! I hope we can find him a home soon… He is the best boy ever!!
From Kate 😁

PS. He got all seaweedy so we had to give him a bath (which he also tolerated very well).”

Thank you Kate and roommates for housing him for the weekend! 😁❤️

👉🏼 Kobe is a 5 year old male looking for a home! He is dog and cat friendly and is housetrained! He is fully vetted and neutered and weighs 68lbs! He is a little shy of strangers, but once he gets to know you, he will be your most loyal friend!

His adoption fee is only $50 for the month of June!

BE SMART: The talk of the town the next 2+ weeks will be the extreme heat, which begins Sunday. With actual air temperatures making a run at 100° (all-time record highs in jeopardy!), it's extremely important to think twice before taking the dog on your daily walk.

As air temperatures soar into the upper 90s under direct sunlight, asphalt temperatures will be nearing 175°. At this level, paw pads can burn in less than 60 seconds. If you think your dog can handle it, go on the walk barefoot and see how long you last. Or... just don't!

Either start the day EARLY or end it LATE if you plan on going on a walk. We are stuck with these temperatures for at LEAST a week... likely longer. Be smart, stay safe, and take care of your pets!!

Thanks to Sawyer Home & Garden Center for supporting!
