Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County The Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, private animal shelter that serves all of Kosciusko County!

We take in strays and owner surrenders of dogs and cats! Come see our adoptable pets! An animal is admitted to our shelter in one of three ways. Many concerned community members who bring us lost animals in hopes we can locate their owner. We partner with both the City of Warsaw and Kosciusko County Animal Care & Control, who has 24/7 access to our facility to drop off a lost animal in a secure lo

cation. Finally, many of our fellow pet lovers surrender their animal to our care because changed life circumstances no longer allow them to give their pet the proper care. All animals that come into the care of the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County are immediately given a thorough assessment.
• Illness / Injury Assessment - We have the capacity to treat superficial illness and injury in-house. For more severe illness and injury, we partner with many local veterinarian offices. For our very young kitten and puppies, we have volunteer neo-natal caregivers who foster them until they are old enough or healthy enough to go up for adoption.
• Spay and Neuter Program: To control the county’s pet population, we spay or neuter every animal in need.
• Behavior Assessment: We do a behavior evaluation to determine how the animal is with people, dogs and cats.
• Vaccinations: We get them up to date on all necessary vaccines. This screening process can take anywhere from three days up to three months, depending on the condition of the animal when they arrive. For those animals who have existing issues we don’t have the facilities to address, we partner with specialized breed rescues or participate in an animal exchange with another rescue organization, so we can give the animal the best chance at finding a fur-ever home. While the animal is waiting to be adopted, our dedicated volunteers help care and socialize our animals by taking them on walks or runs or spending quality time with them in one of our cuddle rooms. We take the utmost care in ensuring our adoptable animals are fit with the right family. When a potential family arrives at the shelter, they meet their possible fur-kid in one of our cuddle rooms. In cases where another pet is already in the home, we encourage them to bring in that pet for a meet and greet as well. Finally, we offer a trial adoption period where a potential owner can host the animal for a short time to ensure the animal is a good fit for their home. We are proud to say that, because of this program, our animal return rate has decreased significantly.

🐶 April made the first basket of the game, earning Team Dogs 2 points!
🐱 Ebeneezer calls himself the ‘Full Court Feline’ and scored himself a home, giving Team Cats 2 points!

🐰🐰Kosciusko County🐰🐰

We are ready to come on over for a cat spay and neuter day! We LOVED working at AWL of Kosciusko County and meeting everyone last month. You can book online for April at www.4directionsvet.org and clicking "Book Today."

We are once again doing $100 cat spays with $10 rabies vaccines for kitties not up-to-date. We also offer vaccines, microchips, FeLV/FIV tests, and prescription flea prevention. Big thanks to AWL for helping us help the community!

Milkshake brings all the love to the yard! I’m a 5 year old sweetheart who may be a little shy at first, but once I learn to trust you, I’ll show you just how loving I can be. I spent most of my life outside, but now I’m ready for the comfort of a warm, safe home. I am FeLV positive, which means I have Feline Leukemia Virus; a condition that can weaken my immune system. Because of this, I need to be in a home with other FeLV+ cats or be the only cat in the home. But don’t worry, I can still live a happy, love-filled life! My favorite things? Window-watching and curling up to watch TV with my favorite human. I just need someone to take a chance on me…could it be you?

Dogs are in the lead by only ONE point! Team Cats really showed up this week!

Game Highlights:
🐶 Caliber, despite his blindness, made a perfect layup and scored Team Dogs 2 points!
🐱 Charlotte dribbled her way down the basketball court, shot her basket and flew into her new family’s arms! Team Cats earns 2 points!
🐶 Whitney scored on her free throw, earning 1 point for Team Dogs for puppy status!
🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱 Washington, Pumpkin, Aspen, Marbles, and Elton all scored their free throws and new homes on fouls from Team Dogs.
🐶 Harley slam dunked on his adoption, earning two points for Team Dogs!
🐱 Sami has been on the adoption floor for awhile, so he was excited to score his basket and sprint home!
🐱 Nova was scooped up with Marbles (already scored) and made a quick basket before heading home!

🐾 If it wasn’t for dogs, some people would never go for a walk; and with this beautiful weather on its way, it's the perfect time for a walk!! 🐾

These little guys came all the way down from South Park 🤣 (only some will understand)

These pups will be going to get neutered Wednesday March 26th, so won't be able to go home until Thursday March 27th. They are still able to be seen and even adopted, they will just stay with us until surgery. If adopted before surgery, they can be picked up anytime Thursday during open business hours.

Caliber, Caliber Caliber…

If you have been following us, you might have seen our plea in February about finding a home for our blind dog, Caliber. We thought we found a fantastic fit for him with a lovely adopter, but unfortunately that home has not worked out for him. 😞 The cats in the home did not like Caliber’s presence in their space, so Caliber was returned to us.

❤️ Let us tell his story again. ❤️
Caliber came to us as a stray, skin and bones. Emaciated. The pictures attached were taken in the finder’s garage, and Caliber was quickly brought to us for care. With a lot of TLC, Caliber is ready to find his furever home! ⭐ He is heartworm positive at this time, but he has been treated for it! We will test him again in April to see if he is negative for heartworms! His heartworms cannot be passed to other pets in the home - if you would like more information on this, please call or message and we’d be happy to explain more about what this all means!

He is almost 5 years old and is blind but that does not slow him down! He is a super sweet boy that enjoys all the love and cuddles! 😍 He follows the sound of your voice very well and loves his treats! With a little bit of help and patience at first, Caliber will be quick to adapt to your home and environment! He is housebroken, but he may need a few reminders at home

What does Caliber need in his home?
→ A home without other pets would be a perfect outcome. However, Caliber is dog and cat selective and may work in a home with them! It really depends on the current pet’s energy level and how they take to him. We do require meet and greets here at the shelter, and we can provide informative guides on how to slowly introduce pets in the home.
→ A patient and kind adopter! Adjusting him to your home will take time!
→ An adopter that will give unlimited pets and snuggles; he does not know personal space and deserves all the love
→ A quiet home that doesn’t rearrange furniture very often. He would need to be readapted to the home each time!
→ A home that can establish a good routine! Potty breaks, placing food/water in the same place, keeping the crate / dog bed in the same place etc! All of this will be so helpful!

✨🐶🦴 Remember Dumpling our doggy Spotlight dog and our dog of the week on Willie 103.5 !?? She found here home today , she even got a brother🤩🤩🤩 Saturdays are always super exciting here at AWL, along with Dumpling, Bouncy, Bridget, Nala, Ember and Daizy went home as well on the dog side 🥳🥳

🥶❄️Brrrr!!! On particularly cold days, the shelter can be quiet, as the inclement weather often results in fewer volunteers and less outdoor time for the animals❄️🥶 🥏🥏 Today, the dogs are engaging in a frisbee enrichment activity, that also helps them stay entertained, which involves a mixture of peanut butter and pumpkin. Interestingly, mentally stimulating activities can be more exhausting for the dogs than physical exercise. 🥏🥏 🙋 If you are feeling adventurous and would like something to do on these chilly days come volunteer !! We have inside runs where the dogs love to play ball or just socialize with humans, feel free to stop in any time during open hours!
