Shoutout to the horses that made us and the ones that save us every day.

Show us your horses past or present and how they’ve made your life better.

Both were out of my rodeo horse Beauty (RIP) and have been with us from the beginning.

If you have some time and can take a shot at answering these it would help me a lot! I need horse people and non-horse people to answer. The kids are elementary ages to high school ages. Thanks!

One week after surgery, my quadriceps are taking their sweet time to get back to business. I've been doing physical therapy for two days and home exercises for a week. The pain is better than the first couple of days but still hangs around, making movement a bit of a challenge. One week down, but there's a bunch more to go in this recovery journey.

Title: The Unspoken Mental Struggles of Injury

In the world of sports, fitness, and daily life, injuries are a common occurrence. However, what often goes unspoken is the mental battle that accompanies physical setbacks. When you get injured, it's not just about the pain or recovery process; it's about the emotional and psychological challenges that can be equally demanding.

1. **Loss of Identity:** For many, their physical abilities are intertwined with their identity. When an injury sidelines you, you may feel like a part of your identity is taken away, leading to a sense of loss and frustration.

2. **Depression and Anxiety:** The prolonged absence from your regular activities can trigger feelings of depression and anxiety. The fear of never fully recovering or returning to your former level of performance can be overwhelming.

3. **Isolation:** Injuries can be isolating. You might feel left out from the activities and camaraderie you once enjoyed. This social withdrawal can exacerbate feelings of loneliness.

4. **Uncertainty:** The uncertainty of the recovery process can be mentally taxing. Not knowing when or if you'll be back to your best can lead to a constant state of worry.

5. **Pressure to Perform:** Athletes and active individuals often feel immense pressure to recover quickly and perform as if nothing happened. This pressure can hinder the healing process and cause unnecessary stress.

6. **Comparisons:** It's easy to fall into the trap of comparing your progress to others who haven't been injured. This self-comparison can be detrimental to your mental well-being.

7. **Fear of Re-injury:** Even after recovering, the fear of re-injury can linger, affecting your confidence and performance.

It's crucial to acknowledge these mental struggles when dealing with injuries. Seeking support from friends, family, or a mental health professional can be just as important as physical rehabilitation. Remember, healing both the body and the mind is a crucial part of the recovery journey.

🐎 Understanding the Normal Range for Horse Vitals 🌡

As responsible horse owners and caretakers, it's crucial to be well-versed in the normal range for your equine companion's vital signs. These include:

1️⃣ **Heart Rate:** A typical horse's heart rate ranges from 28 to 42 beats per minute. Monitoring it helps assess their overall health and stress levels.

2️⃣ **Respiratory Rate:** Horses usually breathe 8 to 16 times per minute. Knowledge of this range helps detect respiratory issues early.

3️⃣ **Temperature:** A horse's normal body temperature is around 99-101.5°F (37.2-38.3°C). Deviations could signal illness or infection.

Why is this knowledge important?

✅ **Early Detection:** Knowing the normal range allows you to spot abnormalities and address them promptly. This is crucial in preventing more serious health issues.

✅ **Stress Assessment:** Monitoring vitals helps you gauge your horse's stress levels, which is vital for their well-being and performance.

✅ **Emergency Preparedness:** In case of emergencies, having baseline data aids veterinarians in making accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions.

🐴 So, remember, understanding and regularly monitoring your horse's vitals isn't just a good practice; it's a fundamental part of responsible horse care. It ensures your equine friend lives a healthy and happy life! 🏇 Garber Equine Services

Good Afternoon,

Last Tuesday, I injured my knee while working livestock in Nebraska. It’s still swollen and may have damaged my ACL. I am pending an MRI to determine what the damage actually is. At this time, I won’t be able to trim any horses or know how
long recovery will take until I get the MRI. I apologize for the inconvenience and want you to know how much I’ve appreciated and loved caring for your horses. Once I’m healed, I would love to be able to continue caring for your horses. I will try and keep you up to date on my status as it continues.

Thank you,

Kelsey Garber

Farriers are generally prepared to deal with just about any situation they are faced with in terms of the horse’s behavior — determining whether it’s scared, nervous, inexperienced, in pain or spoiled — and having a strategy to successfully handle that horse.

Hey Y’all! Summer is coming fast and I wanted to update everyone on what the future holds.

As many of you know, I will be moving south; however, I won’t be quitting any of the clients I have now. Instead I will be welcoming new clients around the Pierre area!

That’s right! After farrier school in September, I will be pursuing a full-time career as a farrier. I will come back to SD every month for Guards; therefore, I will be around for a week every month to trim and shoe horses.

It has been a dream of mine to dive deep into the world of farriery and learn all I can. So I’m taking the leap. I’m excited to see what the future holds and hope you all are there to experience it!
